Poetry can be a hit or miss for me and this one was a hit! There were some very lovely poems in this and some of them I had to re-read because of how much I liked them. I will definitely check out some of the authors other work!
Beau Taplin writes the most inspiring poetry collections and this was no different. There are so many that you find yourself instantly connecting with. I love that his words just resonate with you. I either love a poetry book or I don't and his collections are the only ones I know I'll end up loving. Definitely looking forward to more!
"I plant roots so deeply
in the people I love
that I always lose a piece of myself
when they go."
Uplifting and positive. This little book of poems is very organic and well written, I can really appreciate the beauty of the words and messages. A sweet combination of love and earthy prose.
Cover: 5/5 - can't resist a sun/moon combo.
Audience: adult
Poetry, love, earth, relationships, nature
Overall: 3.5 - my fault really I just have a hard time with poetry.
"as far back as i can remember, i have searched for the hidden magic in things"
that line -one of the first- really reflects what this book holds. this was my first beau taplin book, and i'll sure read his other works after this.
This poetry collection was very inspiring to me. It contains a range of different topics, which I really loved. Most of the poems inspire you to become better and be kind to yourself, which I absolutely loved.
I’ll definitely check out other books by Beau Taplin.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I love reading the opening remarks and this one filled me with love and light. There is truly magic and poetry all around us.
The poems are inspiring and powerful, I liked some better than others, but they all convey a genuine and moving feeling.
The longer pieces were my favorites, because I could truly immerse in the author's world and find warmth.
I highly recommend this to any lovers of poetry and anyone who ever second guessed themselves.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an early copy.
When prose or a written word feels like the kind of conversation you've had in your head at some point in time, that right there is familiarity. Beau's poems in this collection elicit that.
To some readers, they'd find it 'okay' however I am not in that category, rather I went on a journey with Beau found myself nodding at 'The Lines of Resistance' healing upon reading 'Fragments' and definitely being more cautious with my relation to other people after reading 'Cruel Intentions' and valuing relationships correlating them to 'Hostels and Homes,' before finally being reminded that indeed his wish for every being on earth is that we may rise before dawn, every so often.
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC. Love the illustrations herein.
This is a wonderfully emotive and relatable book of poetry and prose. Taplin is very skilled at capturing the human experience beautifully and clearly. Time and again, it felt like he had looked into my heart and mind and written down what he found there. I bookmarked and highlighted like crazy throughout the book!
This deserves every one of the 5-stars I've given it. I wish I could give it more!
My thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of the book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Unfortunately I do not have a capable program to read it in. Thank you.
Actual rating: 4.5 stars.
This poetry collection was SO GOOD I'm definitely going to be purchasing a physical copy once it's released.
This collection covered a vast array of topics but primarily focused on self love and improvement. This collection put into words things I've felt and experienced but didn't know how to say.
My favorites were
-A Resounding Success
-True Fulfillment
-Wanderlust
My only con would be the cursive writing on the pictures. Sometimes it was harder to read because of the ink color/the picture/the thinness of the cursive.
Aside from that this was a really strong poetry collection that I look forward to reading over and over again.
I really enjoyed this unique poetry collection. Many poems spoke to me and I found myself getting emotional over some poems. Taplin certainly makes you feel the meaning of his words. Also, I loved the illustrated pages with small poems on them that would sometimes appear in between poems. The poetry collection definitely made me curious to read more of Taplin's work!
I'm not huge into poetry, but when I saw this book I knew I had to give it a shot. Here at Dawn is a beautiful collection of poems that found their way into my heart. Sometimes I find poetry to be a little confusing and hard to understand, but these poems were gorgeously written and so easy to connect to!
The atmosphere and imagery were gorgeous, and there were several works that caught my attention, one of those being Wanderlust. As someone who isn't super into poetry, I think this is a wonderful starting off point, and would absolutely recommend this to others like me!
"Remember,
you are the composer of your own life
and happiness.
If you don't like the music,
change the arrangement."
You know how sometimes you just stumble of the exact right piece of writing for what you are going through in your life? That was 'Here At Dawn' for me.
While I have not read every single poem, I definitely intend to do so. This collection is something I will go back to over and over again. Do yourself a favour and check it out - the poems are beautiful, of varying length and themes, and there are some lovely photographs/ graphics in between the poetry. Love it love it love it.
Thanks so much #NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for ARC, will definitely be looking out for the hardcopy edition to add to me small-but-growing collection of modern poetry. #HereatDawn
A beautiful collection of poems. There were pages with illustrations and snippets which I thought was a great addition to the book. The poems were great and I had a great time reading them.
I absolutely love this book.
It is a collection of verses that addresses the importance of finding magic in the most basic things in life. There are so many parts of this book I want to talk about (BUT just pick one up). It illustrates the magic of life and the importance of self-acceptance, self-love, defeat, strength, traveling, relationships, and expectations.
A specific verse titled "The Needle and Thread" reminds me of a Korean drama "When the Weather is Fine" wherein one of the characters was telling a friend of his that his major and most proud of accomplishment was learning how to enjoy the most basic things in life.
"The secret is to never lose sight of the simple, everyday miracles in life:
good food, literature, laughter, music, compelling conversation, nature, and art.
Look for them in every day, and even when it feels like your whole world is unraveling you will never be too far from a needle and thread" - absolutely love this
Another verse I like among the many is titled "The Symphony of the Earth" here Beau says talks about how important each person is and how much we are very linked
"You matter
You are valuable
Your life is not only your gift
It belongs also to others"
I just love this, you are one of the stars in the conservation, we all need each other, your importance cannot be overestimated, you are a jewel in a set, we complete each other. I just love this.
I could go on and on about how much I love this book, so here are a few verses that I really enjoyed
"True Fulfillment"
"And let there be light"
"The Ever-Knowing Self"
"The Composer"
"Self-Inflicted"
Poetry can be rather hit or miss for me, as with many I am sure, but this one makes it onto the list of poets / books that I thouroughly enjoyed! For those who have liked poets such as Rupi Kaur, RH Sin, Michael Faudet, or Lang Leav you will find enjoyment in these. Taplin's approach differs for me in that there is focus on us as an individual and the mark that we leave in this world with no action or person being insignificant. "Your life is like a stone / skimming across the surface of a river, / its ripples reaching out gently / in every direction...".
Poetry is the heartbeat of culture and often captures the feeling of the moment better than many other mediums. That is why I love reading poetry when I want to go into my head. Taplin's collection does just that. It reminds you of the beauty and the magic hidden in the world even when it seems like you won't be able to find it again.
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC!
I requested this book because I really needed to read something inspiring. Something that made me want to see beauty in this world. These poems are so beautiful. They truly made me feel better in many ways... But I feel like I've already read other similar works before, and I was hoping to feel something different this time. That's the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars, but it's just a personal opinion... Oh, and the graphic work is absolutely stunning!

Review:
Here at Dawn is a marvelous collection of poetry. The poetries at mesmerizing and they have a certain kind of magic in them which pushes us to seek beauty in the most simple things.
His words are simple yet so profoundly meaningful. He seeks to address to the magic within us. Every poem of his is beautiful in its own way. Some were relatable, while some were heartbreaking. The way he used words is unique and original.
I just loved the way it flowed, with sharp turns, but a smooth ride. I especially enjoyed the quotes along with the beautiful illustrations in between the pages. This book of poetry is one of those which will make you fall in love with poetry once again. Can't help but recommend this amazing book to all the lovers of poetry.
An uplifting and overall positive poetry collection focused on life lessons that are absolutely inspiring. I was very blessed by this collection not just because it was relatable, but because the poems enlighten me of ways to be a better person. The poems were able to shift my paradigm on difficult situations in life which I think is very helpful for everyone.
There were also many poems about love and they were all so beautiful. They could bring me to a place of healing and realization that the past are just lessons and memories but the future is for us to determine what we want in life.
Definitely recommending this poetry book to everyone in need of direction in life. This will help guide you through many obstacles and self-hindrances.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Absolutely gorgeous. I am very impressed. I usually only like a couple of poems but here I loved all of them. Everything is written with so much meaning and attention, it’s amazing. I will buy the printed version of the book. I 100% would recommend.
Beau Taplin knows the beautiful art of words. I’ve read his entire back catalogue, so I was eager to check this book out when I saw it available. His work is personal yet relatable, heartbreaking and real yet his words are inspiring.
Poet Beau Taplin proves to be a literary voice worth considering, and I appreciate the range of works collected in this volume. Many thanks to the publisher for an advance review copy, from which I offer this unbiased review.
As I was reading this book, I soon began to search more about the author and other books he has already published. I really enjoyed this poetry collection, it's as if the poems spoke to me in such a specific way. Rating: 4/5 stars.
Beau is one of my favourite poetry writers, and this collection did not disappoint. Definitely another favourite collection and I will be buying a hard copy
Over all this was a good collection of poetry. In the forward the author urges the reader to fall down the rabbit hole into the collection, but it felt more rooted in reality than wonderland for me. A couple of the poems really pulled at my heart strings, specifically those on lost love and depression. Throughout my reading experience I kept thinking to myself that this book would be great as a resource for bibliomancy (flipping to a random page and seeking oracle guidance;) each poem was vague enough that you could journal on how it relates to your own life effectively. It felt very much like scrolling through someones instagram feed, especially with the images sprinkled throughout (that didn't make much sense to me.)
I want to thank Netgalley, Beau Taplin, and Andrews Mcmeel Publishing for this ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
At the first few poems of this book it doesn't make me feel anything. But at the later parts, I slowly find it relatable, and I feel like it speak to my soul. It is so raw, honest, and blunt. Even so, there are so many beautiful metaphors in this and I got impressed on how the author strings those metaphors and words together to make a fascinating proses and poems. It deeply talks about sensitive topics, including break-ups, mental health, grief, and self-love. Reading some part of it makes me sad but there are also some inspiring part where you want to be a better version of yourself. And I loved that!
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Beau Taplins poetry is utterly captivating and reaches out to you through every poem. This book was so beautifully written and I connected with it from the very first poem. I felt the poems were so relatable and understandable and I found myself going back and re-reading someone them again and again.
These poems speak to you and tell you you are as unique to the world around you as the world around you is to you and to embrace your uniqueness.
