This is such a cute book with very clear step to step guides on how to draw the characters. Unfortunately I am so bad a drawing that I didn't have as good a result as the book showed! Although I did learn a lot of tips and tricks and I am sure with a bit of practise I would improve.
I did really enjoy the chapter with the search and find different characters
Kawaii Doodle World is an amazing guide to creative doodle scenes full with kawaii doodle characters. The book focuses more on scene settings rather than just the characters and I really loved that, as scene building is where I find myself lacking a bit.
The book has easy to follow instructions and is fun, helpful, and, as expected, cute to the smallest detail. I quite enjoyed it and plan on trying to do more scene doodles rather than just single characters, armed with my newly acquired knowledge.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for providing me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.*
This is so cute and informative! I love how she teaches the basic steps of drawing kawaii characters each simple step by step. She also teaches how cluster them and to come up with ideas. There are also some fun search and find sheets in the back.
Im learning to sketch and doodle as part of my mindfulness and this book is perfect, a wonderfguide for the beginner like me, easy to follow, great instructions and perfect clear and cute illustrations. Brilliant book for the artists in your life or for yourself
Such a simple and adorable guide for anyone who wants to try their hand at squee worthy Kawaii drawings. The instructions are clear and this book is really confidence building. I'm already finding myself doodling more in my work planner and it does make looking at it more fun.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC.
My sister is into journaling nowadays, still a beginner, she loved it. Super-Cute doodling with well-explained steps. It couldn't be more cute and useful. I can see myself trying a few for my bookstagram/blog props.
We loved this super cute Kawaii doodle book. The book many consisted on how to combine kawaii doodles into a larger collective piece of art. The instructions were easy to follow for both myself and my 10 year old and we produced some really fun art work using this book. I would definitely recommend for fans of Kawaii art and drawing
This was a cute drawing guide for adorable doodles— the guides were easy to follow, and I can’t wait to try them out.
I loved this Kawii Doodle Book! This book picks up with how to group Kawiii characters together and create a pattern through different shapes. This is best if used with the Kawii Doodle Class book but you can absolutely start learning how to doodle using this book as well. Some of the take aways I got from this book is that Kawaii is very versatile- you can make it your own and always change it to match what your style or vision is. They do give lots of examples and images to help inspire you, so this is a great book for those who, like me, are just starting to learn to draw and doodle. I am looking forward to more Kawaii books and will be adding this series to my collection!
Kawaii Doodle World: Sketching Super-Cute Doodle Scenes with Cuddly Characters, Fun Decorations, Whimsical Patterns, and More is a new tutorial book from kawaii mistress Zainab Khan (a.k.a. Pic Candle). I've reviewed a couple of other books by the same creator on my blog, and this is another serving of the same. Due out 18th Aug 2020 from Quarto on their Race Point imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback format.
This companion book expands on the previous books by including more composition and combination page-filling tutorials (see cover). The format is the same as the previous books and is accessible and user-friendly. The tutorials have step-by-step illustrations which anyone can follow.
The book starts with a general tips & tricks introduction showing tools and supplies and how to use them followed by chapters building up characters, adding decorations and background patterns, and composition (including contour filling).
One of the most brilliant aspects of this book (and of Ms. Khan's art) is in showing the would be doodler how to combine and build on simple elements to produce a deceptively simple cohesive piece of art which looks very complex. There are whole collage drawings at the end of the book which are provided as search & find puzzles but which would also make superlative coloring pages as well as a good tutorial on planning full page illustrations.
I've been using doodling as an awareness/mindfulness exercise and it really does work. These are cute and good fun.
This would make a really fun rainy day/isolating at home activity for younger kids to, well, adult age. They're appealing and whimsical and sweet.
Five stars
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This book is really cute. Perfect for the journaling craze going on right now. Very simple and easy to follow instructions. My nieces loved drawing with me using these designs and we made our own coloring pages with their guidelines of how to stack cute drawings together. Very fun.
This gives a unique type of doodles, where you make a cluster of cute objects, I never typed this type before and can’t say the worked out great but it was fun.
My daughter already owns Kawaii Doodle Class (which she loves) but in all honesty I was a little sceptical that this would likely be very similar/ samey content. In this, I was completely wrong!
This is a fantastic book. Where the previous book focussed on step by step drawing of kawaii characters, this helps you bring the drawings up to the next level by planning full page layouts with ideas for additional decorations and patterns that can be used to give your drawings a more professional finish. I can see many weekends of doodling together coming up.
I recieved an Advanced Review Copy of this book for my honest review but can definitely say that I will be purchasing a hard copy of this for my daughter when it is released (and probably for several of her friends' birthdays too).
I found this book so much fun, the doodle step by step instructions were helpful and easy to understand. The doodling style is one which will help the learner to perfect their doodling in repetitive patterns. Also, the Doodle is a fellow India which is great to know.
This is a really cute and helpful guide on how to create kawaii doodle scenes! Since I never went through the first book I don't know how much I'm missing, but I kinda wish the individual doodle guides were together with the scenes. Overall really good doodle book tho, and I feel like I learned a lot!
The author of this adorable book tells readers early on that the word Kawaii roughly translates as "cuteness." Well, the doodles that you can make from this book are just that. It is a feel good collection that I highly recommend. Learn how to make the sweet, whimsical doodles. Enjoy a few tricks; for example, think about where to place the two dots for eyes and the smile. Whether you like to draw or not, this title will bring a smile to your face.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for a free ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is a fun introduction into doodling. It will come in extremely useful with my children and students.
Pic Candle is a household name in my family, we’ve been following the YouTube videos of tiny cute drawings for felt ages. When I was approved for this ARC, I read it at once. Though, can you really read a book that shows you how to draw little mushrooms and stars and cactus and flowerpots?

This is an amazingly cute book. I’m a terribly artist, but there are some great ideas in this book that I feel confident that I can try out in my bullet journal. Everything is laid out well and presented in a way that is easy to follow. Highly recommend this book to artsy and non-artsy lovers of all things kawaii.
So cute! I love this book. It teaches you how to draw some cute stuff like cute little foods, school supplies and plants and then it shows you how to bring them all together and make a whole sheet of cute doodles. Very adorable! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
A really well set out book with clear instructions.
Split into 5 sections there’s something for everyone. Each section builds on the last and there’s even 4 hide song seek puzzles at the end.
My daughters love Kawaii characters so they’ll be having a go at these cute doodles.
It’s a Kawaii World!
Kawaii Doodle World is an excellent follow up book to Pic Candle/Zainab Khan’s other Kawaii doodle books. This book takes the character sketch further with layering, and pattern design. The instructions are limited, but the visual examples are excellent. It would have been helpful, to have the Kawaii Doodle Refresher Course at the beginning of the book. Though, the characters broken down in this part are only a brief selection of characters featured in this book. So, I do recommend reading Pic Candle/Zainab Khan’s previous books that focus on character doodles first. There is a nice progression of difficulty from the beginning to the end of this book. With attention to layering characters, and filler designs. As in the title, they may look like doodles, but there is a lot of sketching. Especially when the characters become more complex, and more layered. Following the Tips and Tricks does help when finishing the doodles. The eye and mouth placement are really important, as an uneven ratio can give the characters creepy expressions. Again, this is a more challenging kawaii design book, that includes a lot of time sketching to get the designs as cute as Pic Candle/Zainab Khan’s. A super cute, kawaii, way to relax and draw.
I got this book so that I could do some of these lovely drawings with my little one. The characters and decorations are really fun and the author does a wonderful job of both breaking them down and building them up so you can see how to make really simple drawings and then how to use those skills to create more complex scenes. It's the perfect starter book if you or your kids are interested in drawing these cute doodly characters.
with gratitude to Quarto Publishing Group and netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I adore these 'how to draw' books and I assumed this would be more of the same type. Tiny little kawaii creatures to draw. However, this was so much more. In this volume, it showed you how to combine the kawaii characters to make a larger amalgamation that was a cross between elaborate packaging and graffiti.
It showed you the basics of grouping, backdrop, perspective and filling in. I think this is a fantastic addition to any drawing book selection and definitely had a lot of excellent points that I plan to go back and revisit. It's a different take on a popular subject that would help with composition and marketing designs.
Fantastic.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Rock Point for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is usually not my thing but this looked interesting so here I am. Unfortunately, apparently I am definitely not an artist at all! Maybe it's just practice. I did find this interesting and it looked fun, but I think it's not my style. Still nicely done and easy to follow instructions. 3.5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC. All opinions are my own.
I love Kawaii Doodles! They are so cute and charming. Just a quick look inside will have you inspired to want to draw more. I love how the book is broken into chapters, as it keep it concise and easy to follow. There are steps on how to draw some of the characters and also how to integrate them together to create an inspired piece.
I would highly recommend for all ages and stages of doodling!!
Kawaii Doodle World is a fun introduction to drawing kawaii objects. The book is easy enough for people of all ages and skill levels because it is digestible and broken up in a way where readers can take pause and take breaks. Overall concept seems simple but the author puts the drawings together in clusters that make it feel interesting and unique. I would love to see the next step in teaching how to make ordinary objects more kawaii-like.
What a delightful little book of doodles! You may have heard of Pic Candle's Kawaii doodles, with its adorable little blobs - potted plants, household objects, monsters, stationeries and pretty much everything else. Zainab is so talented!
This book teaches you the basics of this type of doodling. It is a step-by-step guide to drawing the blobs, grouping them into different shapes and adding expressions and patterns to them. I sat down and tried them myself. It was so easy after a few tries. And now I am absolutely hooked.
This doodle guide is perfect for meditative art, making cards for your friends or even just enjoying the process. I loved it!
Also the last few pages contain some fun games of finding a particular blob in a sea of Kawaii doodles.
Thank you Netgalley for the e-ARC.
Amazing drawing book! I'm obsessed with Kawaii drawings, so I just had to try this book for myself. I'm not a skilled illustrator by any means, but this book is so practical and easy to follow, I had no problem following through and ending with more than decent drawings:) The pictures inside are beautiful and there are even a couple of pages fo you to color in!
The drawing tutorials range from easy to more advanced. The more advanced involving more detail in the Kawaii doodles, but everything is so well explained, you'll love it.
I would totally recommend this for beginners trying their had with doodles!
Kawaii Doodle World by Pic Candle, Zainab Khan is an brilliant book for teaching you how to draw Kawaii style drawings. Easy to follow and with full instructions.
This book was super cute! A little more advanced than I realized, it guides you through creating kawaii scenes with multiple characters. There is a handy refresher at the end of the book to help you draw some specific characters, but the majority of the book is about creating cute multi-character scenes. Really adorable and fun!
I was allowed to view a copy of Kawaii Doodle World for my review. We recieved a copy from NetGalley for our honest opinion.
My daughter has been very interested in how to draw type books. With being home due to stay at home orders, she was thrilled to have some new items to practice doodling. She is 9 and this book was very kid friendly. There are step by step instructions and examples for her to follow or draw inspiration from.
Cute drawings, though step-by-step guide isn't always clearly broken down, as much as I'd like to see to follow. The addition of the find the character towards to back is an adorable add-on and would probably be greatly appreciated by the younger crowd (pre-teens).
Kawaii Doodle World is a great book for anyone looking to get into Kawaii doodling. This book mostly focuses on creating scenes with the kawaii doodle characters, however the back of the book does provide a refresher course on drawing the characters if you need it. The book provides thorough instructions on how to create a scene from placement of the kawaii doodle characters to adding extras. While my drawing is not fantastic, this did provide me a way to try to improve on my doodles.
This is seriously the cutest doodle book I have come across. I can't wait to try some of these doodles and see how they turn out. They are so cute and I love how the book gives you the thing you are drawing and then the basic steps of how to do it and then practice steps and even how to incorporate it all together. Great book, I highly recommend.
This is an adorable Kawaii "how to draw" book that has simple steps for anyone to follow! My husband is absolutely horrible at drawing, and usually draws basic stick figures, but he was able to follow along with me!
It not only showed you the absolute basics on how to create the kawaii creatures, but also how to group them into fun shapes, how to do the backdrop, add perspective and even fill them in. This is definitely a fun activity to do with all ages and is a great addition to any drawers "how to" collection!
I would definitely recommend this to all that are interested in learning how to make kawaii creatures!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary eARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes. I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me this opportunity!
This book is super cute and great if you are looking to get into drawing. It is a simple book on how to draw in the 'Cute' world of Kawaii. This book would be great for beginners or the seasoned drawer. It gives you illustrated step by step graphics and instructions on how to draw the perfect object.
Would be a brilliant buy for young and old alike :)
This is a cute book for learning how to draw kawaii doodles.
There are easy lessons step by step. It's really funny!
*Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC of this book*
Kawaii Doodle World is such a fun book! I had never head of Kawaii or Kawaii characters. I really found the instructions and tips so be both thorough and cute. It has a great list of materials and some quick tips and tricks at the beginning of the book which is nice reference before you begin. The instructions are clear and simple and teach you how to draw cute characters, group them together, and add decorative patterns.
It’s a perfect book for anyone who would like to try Kawaii doodling for the first time or just wanting some inspiration for cute characters. It would make an awesome gift for both young and old artists. I really enjoyed it!
I received this book via NetGalley for an honest review.

While at first, I was worried that the book was tailored toward the more experienced artist, it did a wonderful job of breaking down each pattern and style. A beginner artist could mimic her exact layout and style, a more intermediate one could combine and adjust to their liking. There are lots of helpful hints and the step-by-step instructions were very detailed. I also enjoyed that there was a refresher at the end of the book.
I like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I mean, this book isn't bad. It isn't for a beginner but it isn't bad. It mainly works with how to fill out a page with doodles- not how to draw said doodles in the first place. I saw the author had a book on how to sketch doodles, I've never read it but I bet that's a beginner's best option.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute book!
While the drawing themselves look basic and cute, there is a lot to making them work. The steps are broken down, but can still be a bit hard. I like the variety in foods and advice to make the drawing your own!
I appreciate that each step is broken down, but I feel like breaking down some steps further (like adding the decorations) would be helpful!
Overall it's a fun and cute book but could still be a bit hard for beginners.
This is an easy how-to for fans of Kawaii art. I requested this book from NetGalley because my daughter (11) loves to draw, and loves Kawaii art. Using her as my guinea pig, we sat down and she followed the easy how-to directions.
Within minutes she was hooked. Her art immediately started looking better, and she was more sure of her lines and designs.
This is a great book for those interested in learning how to draw Kawaii art and those that love to doodle.
**I was granted an ARC of this story from NetGalley and is my honest and voluntary review.
This book doesnt provide step by step of how to draw a kawaii character. It just gives you ideas of how to add many of them together to form a big picture. comprising of many characters. I think it is helpful in that aspect. It does also provide you with tips on how to embellish a kawaii character and the materials you need and it also explains what is a Kawaii. It is not that hard to draw a kawaii since there are pictures of different characters on the book and a kawaii character just basically comprises of few strokes.
If you are looking for a book to teach you how to draw each kawaii character stroke by stroke than this book would not be for you. Overall, I find the book useful as it gives you ideas of how to build a big landscape of many kawaii characters side by side or on top of each other. or overlapping It would be better if it provides stroke by stroke guidelines as well but I guess this was not the intention of the book.
On the whole, I like this book because it gives me ideas of how to overlap each kawaii character. The rest is up to your own imagination.
Doodling is addictive and this book takes it a few steps further. Learn to draw some cute creatures and then group them together. Easy instructions and illustrations make this perfect for a beginner or those that want to add more to their current doodling. Fun and a plus if you are looking for a way to relax.
Thank you to the NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the digital ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. This review can also be found on my Goodreads page.
This is such an adorable book. Even just looking at the pictures brought a smile to my face. I'm a doodler, but I can't draw much other than simple shapes and squiggles. This book lets me draw cute little doodles with the minimal skills that I have at my disposal. The pages that were the most helpful to me were those with the step by step instructions showing me how to draw a cute cupcake, monster, donut, etc. Once you have the basics down, the book provides ideas on how to group these cute little doodles together. The margins of my notebooks will definitely be looking a lot cuter from now on!
So cute! A fantastic addition to teen and adult nonfiction collections with equal appeal for the middle and high school markets.
If you are looking to take your Kawaii drawing skills to the next level beyond just cute little drawings on a page, this is a great book to spark some inspiration. When I was looking into learning about Kawaii, I picked up another book by Pic Candle, Kawaii Doodle Class, and immediately fell in love with drawing these cute things! There is a refresher to some Kawaii drawing if you needed it. There's a refresher for the first project and then some more at the end of the book, which I thought was a bit odd. I would expect to have any refresher on drawing at the beginning of the book, and that's my only complaint about the book.
This is a book where you can learn how to draw Kawai doodles. It says in the description that you will take your doodling skills on the next level. It may be a bit difficult for complete beginners. I liked it!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this! All opinions are my own.
This is a great book for those of us who have a hard time with starting any drawing. It takes your hand and gently leads you around the page. You never feel like your first line on the page is totally wrong. It's fluid, and fun to follow, and I found myself turning to the next page without realizing it.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is a lovely book showing how to draw kawaii doodle scenes with really cute characters and objects.
This book shows you step by step how to draw objects and then how to put them all together and then how to put them within shapes such as a heart or star.
This is a great book for adults and children to enjoy and practice drawing kawaii doodles. I will be trying these out as an activity with my little one over the holidays.
Kawaii Doodle World is a fun book and perfect for someone like myself who is artistically challenged. The instructions were simple and the drawings are cute and fun. The instructions seems quite easy to follow. A great way to relieve stress by doodling your worries away.
You may be familiar with Pic Candle’s work from Instagram or other social media — she draws the most adorable doodles. She has two previous books - (1) Kawaii Doodle Class: Sketching Super-Cute Tacos, Sushi, Clouds, Flowers, Monsters, Cosmetics, and More, and (2) Kawaii Doodle Cuties: Sketching Super-Cute Stuff From Around the World. Her third book — Kawaii Doodle World: Sketching Super-Cute Doodle Scenes with Cuddly Characters, Fun Decorations, Whimsical Patterns, and More — is a perfect follow up to the previous two since it takes many of the doodles and teaches the reader how to combine the individual doodles into groups. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with her first two because this third one includes a refresher on how to draw many of those doodles.
Kawaii Doodle World begins with a short explanation of how to use the book followed by tools and tips/tricks. Pic Candle presents many group drawings and provides step by step instruction on the specific layout and shows the addition of each individual kawaii doodle — what to add and where to add it. The first few groupings are composed of homogeneous elements - for example, there is all clouds, all cupcakes and all mushrooms. Pic Candle then demonstrates how to create group drawings of different characters and how to fit them together. Some of these groups consist of doodles that are from the same category, such as fruits/veggies and cafe treats. Everything is so cute, you cannot help but smile and feel inspired to try drawing these cuties with Pic Candle guiding you every step of the way.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point and NetGalley for a temporary digital copy in exchange for my honest review. I will definitely be adding Kawaii Doodle World to my Pic Candle book collection.
This is a great step by step for drawing Kawaii characters. Really well explained and easy to follow.
I tried these with my nephew and we had lots of fun drawing and then colouring them in.
Kawaii doodles live up to their name, which roughly translates from Japanese as "cute", but a particular kind of adorable cuteness that evokes stickers and huggable, squishy animals. If that appeals to you, you'll enjoy this how-to guide that will help you draw smiling cupcakes, clouds, bears, etc. Approachable and fun style. Lots of space to practice and step-by-step instructions. Good for older kids, teens, and adults who appreciate all things cute.
This is an easy to follow guide for starting to draw in the Kawaii style.
There are step by step guides to drawing different characters (for example vegetables, creatures, office supplies and plants). Each group starts with how to draw the individual characters and then how to build it up to draw a busy grouping. There are also examples of embellishments which will eventually help to create your own designs rather than drawing those from the book.
Aimed, I think at a younger audience it was still a fun book for an adult and it was easy to produce some super cute images.
Adorable kawaii doodle book! Kids and teens will love this guide which helps you to bring your mindless doodles to life with personality and fun. The anthropomorphic little cakes, plants and even office supplies brought a smile to my face, and I liked the step by step instructions for how to make my own doodles - particularly the section on making shaped doodles and more complex, layered designs.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance digital copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Are you ready to level up your doodling skills? With this book, you can learn how to doodle various kawaii characters and add some simple techniques to your drawing skills.
This book is absolutely adorable. I saw it and thought it was so cute. I’m always doodling, so I thought it’d be a cute book to get. Inside, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to draw various characters in addition to how to take these characters and create a big picture with them. There’s all kinds of neat little additions the book covers as well, such as patterns that you can use to give your doodles extra dimension.
At the back of the book, there’s a few search-and-find puzzles that also double as coloring pages. If you can’t find the item you’re looking for in the picture, there’s an answer key at the very end. I thought it was a cute idea as well as a great way to end the book.
I think this is a great book for kids learning how to draw because it teaches you how to draw simple characters and patterns. It has some simple yet great drawing techniques that will be easy for kids to pick up and really feel like they are learning without the pressure of producing a masterpiece. The step-by-step instructions are easy for kids to follow, so I think it’s the perfect book to get for any kid interested in drawing.
It's fun to learn about cute kawaii doodles and how to make them! The instructions are clear and easy to follow, even though I'm not always successful due to my own poor skills!
"Kawaii Doodle World" is an amazing guide for little artists. The book focuses more on scene settings rather than just the characters and I really loved that, as scene building is where I find myself lacking a bit.
The book has easy to follow instructions and is fun, helpful, and, as expected, cute to the smallest detail.
I already own both of the predecessors to this book so this was a great companion to those. As a standalone, i think it lacks a little of the doodle instructions that the others have but the theme is building those doodles into the scenes that you get in seamless design or coloring book pages.
Very nice to see the author's process in creating those fun full images we love.
Being a complete beginner to Kawaii Doodle style drawing I found this book interesting. I would of found the refresher section on how to draw each character to be at the beginning of the book more useful. If you are already proficient at this style of drawing then jumping straight into more complicated drawing would be fine. The book is very informative and cute. Fantastic to learn new methods.
Thank you to Netgalley for the early e book copy.
I often like these types of books because it gives my un-artistic self a step-by-step guide for ideas on how to make simple, but cute character art. I would recommend this for beginning artists, adults that want something different from coloring books, and a younger audience that is learning to draw and wants something "kawaii."
The layout and formatting of this book is very nice. It starts like many other craft books- there is a "how to use this book" section along with different types of to use for drawing. The doodles are quite simple and a few variations of shapes are shown. There is a quite a few variations on simple doodles that can help artists change up their work.
While I enjoy looking at the drawings in this book, a lot of it is pretty basic and similar ideas can be found in other books in this series. It is something that I would consider as more of a gift for someone else than as something that I would take constant enjoyment with myself. A great way to see if you are interested in this book is to check out the book preview on Amazon- it has a great preview that really summarizes the book well :)
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group for an advanced e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4.5/5 stars!
This is another wonderful addition of Pic Candle books featuring the iconic doodles the artist is known for. Separated into parts, this drawing instructional book helps readers/doodlers draw "kawaii" characters with patterns and more! There is even a bonus feature in the back for some fun coloring!
Overall, this is a great drawing book. Also I would appreciate a couple of pages focusing on basic instructions in drawing characters and practice at the beginning of the book for review purpose. In conclusion, the book gave all the important points that it meant to impart to readers about Pic Candle doodles.
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy.*
