The book is a tiny, relaxing read. its something you can cozy up and spend an evening with. The poems talk about love and loss and of course, longing to be with the one you love. Its good old school romance but I liked how it didn't use cliched metaphors and instead came up with something new, something humorours.
It was a good read for me. I enjoyed it.
The first thing I have to say about this book is that its title fits perfectly: those are undoubtedly poems of longing. They taste like heartbreak, but in a calm, not 100% painful, only partly. There’s love and care, and even a little bit of hope, there. But it’s still sad. I guess the word I’m looking for is nostalgic.
Reading this book felt like the first few minutes after a crisis, after crying your heart out: you’re still desperate, but it’s no longer intense. The only thing that’s left is the sudden realisation that there’s nothing else you can do except to wait, and that’s how reading this book felt like.
It’s personal, but not specific enough for one to be unable to relate to it; Juan-Paolo managed to get to the roots of those emotions and to portray them as if a specific point of heartbreak had been pinpointed. It’s often hard to review poetry with much criticism, so I’ll just say that I’d recommend most of the poems in this collection.
Poems that capture the emotions and desires, particularly that speak to younger audiences and those who are seeking affection or perhaps recovering from loss. The feelings are genuine and Perre seems to open his heart through his words, without trying to please anyone other than himself. A book that will speak to anyone who is recovering from a broken heart or other emotional loss, and relay the message that others know how it feels to be lost or lonely.
