A well planned out book with great recipes, a brilliant introduction to indicate all about what IBS is, a four week food plan and a handy shopping list to boot. As I sufferer of IBS I will definitely be giving some of these recipes a try. Even though I am the only sufferer in the household the recipes look good for everyone. Thank you so much to NetGalley and publishers for the chance to read this digital copy for an honest review.

Very beautiful, colorful and organized plan and cookbook. This is my first time reading about low-FODMAP IBS and the book explains everything about it, gives some tips, gives you a week plan and a shopping list. Then there are recipes for breakfast, starters and sides, fishes, poultry and meat, vegan and vegetarian recipes, snacks and treats, and sauces, dressings and dips recipes. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

For anyone who suffers from IBS like me this is such a great resource. I love how they indicated if the recipe was vegan, vegetarian, dairy free or gluten free. The introduction of the book with the shopping list is so helpful. The recipes looks so good and sounds so yummy, I can't wait to make them all. It's definitely I book I'd buy and would recommend.

Wow....what a scrumptious cover! So... not all the people in my household have an IBS condition but this was a good to know cookbook. It seems most of the recipes call for gluten free and no dairy so it can be used for a wide variety of conditions. Not just IBS!

What did I like? Versatility was my biggest thought as I navigated the recipe book....and outstanding pictures. I bookmarked quite a few recipes and I can’t wait to see how they turn out. From Thai foods to desserts... really something for everyone. IBS hurts a ton of different people so kudos to the author for trying to help others situate themselves to avoid the repercussions of IBS.

Would I recommend or buy? If you suffer from this ailment then this would help you out! I’m amazed at how well you can eat by just changing a few ingredients and this was a beautiful cookbook! Five stars for some really great recipes!

I voluntarily read and left my opinion!

A good introduction to what IBS is, how to live with it, recipes, and even shopping lists and meal plans. I don’t have IBS myself, but I’ve had problems with my stomach until I changed my diet. It was interesting to read the short, but very informative information about IBS. I think this will be an important book, and since more and more people realize they have IBS, its great to get more information about it, as well as yummy recipes. It is clear that you can still eat good tasting, basic food, you just need to put a bit of thought into it. I will definitely try many of the vegan recipes, and I bet several will make it to my regular recipe list. FODMAP might be the next “big thing” in restaurants and dietary needs, so it’s good to know some recipes, and be ready, when people start telling you they have IBS when you ask them over for dinner. Really lovely pictures of all the food!

I was so excited to see this book! I have had IBS for several years and have struggled to find the right foods to eat. The author provides a clear explanation of what IBS is and then provides a nice shopping list, sample four week meal plan and explains how to reintroduce foods. She also explains why it's important to eliminate certain foods. I love the little pictures in the book. I definitely can relate to being afraid to eat! The recipes look fantastic and easy to make. I love that she included a section with vegan and vegetarian options. I often find it more difficult to follow food plans as a vegan, but not when it's spelled out clearly for me! Thank you to NetGalley and Fair Winds Press for an ARC copy.

The Low-FODMAP IBS Solution Plan and Cookbook is a dietary plan, information guide, and cookbook with recipes developed by Dr. Rachel Pauls. Due out 6th Oct 2020 from Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 176 pages and will be available in paperback format.
Current research continues to emphasize how nearly all our body systems depend on our digestive system working as well as possible. Our gut is not only responsible for effective digestion and processing of nutrients, but is also being shown to have far reaching effects on our energy levels, mental health, hormonal balance, mood, and much more. This guide is a resource for helping IBS patients (and others trying to support their digestive systems) re-establish function and minimize or eliminate flare-ups.

I like the author's humor and witty style of writing. She's conversational, upbeat and encouraging without ever being patronizing. The guide is written in layman accessible language which anyone can understand. I imagine many readers suffering digestive issues (bloating, pain, IBS, etc) will be nodding along reading about the symptoms and typical presentation of chronic digestive disease and flare-ups. The included recipes are well written and appealing. When I think of low-FODMAP/gluten-free foods, they're mostly bland and tasteless. These are anything but boring.

The introduction covers the general information about IBS - the who, what, where, and how-to. The author also provides a list of possible questions for patients to ask their healthcare providers. I also liked the whimsical little line drawings which adorn the pages.

The recipes are grouped roughly thematically: breakfasts, starters & sides, fish & shellfish, meat & poultry, vegan & vegetarian, snacks & treats, and stocks sauces dressings & dips. Each of the recipes includes an introductory description, ingredients listed in a bullet point sidebar (metric & US measurements included - yay!), step by step instructions, as well as footers with tips and alternative suggestions and some tips on presentation. Nutritional info not included. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. The ingredients are mostly easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store.

The book has a resource list with links for further reading, short author bio, and index. The photography is clear, and more than half of the recipes are accompanied by finish/serving photos. The photos which are included in the cookbook are well done, appealing, and (for tutorial photos) easy to follow.

This book would make a great gift for someone looking for low-FODMAP recipes as well as cooks supporting and cooking for a family member with digestive issues, or for chronic IBS patients looking for ways to take control of their own gut health.

Four and a half stars rounded up because of the author's truly engaging funny style and the beautifully developed recipes themselves. It's written in an empowering and understandable way.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

The thing with a lot of Low FODMAP recipe books is that they usually have strange, weird and wonderful recipes that don't work with regular people and their families. Thank goodness this one has finally come up with some "normal" meals and meal plans for people with IBS.

This is the first cookbook I have reviewed on Netgalley; however, it is so much more than that.
The author of this book is a physician, as well as someone who suffers from IBS herself. She is passionate about helping people who have issues involving both their gastrointestinal system, as well as problems involving the pelvi floor, amongst other things.
The book begins by going over what IBS is, and what a Low-FODMAP diet really consists of. She also goes over why it's important in helping people manage their symptoms, and help heal their gut, which is the center of everything. She then goes into a menu plan for 4 weeks to go through the elimination period of the Low-FODMAP diet. She lists out what the Low-FODMAP foods are so you can prepare your house, and she gives you a list of all the tools you need for creating her recipes.
Overall this helps you prepare, and explains the significance of the diet too. I think it's a fantastic resource for anyone who is struggling with gastro issues, whether related to IBS or not, and I would definitely recommend it!

The Low-FODMAP IBS Solution Plan and Cookbook is so much more than a recipe book. It provides detailed information about IBS and gives a full plan for eating and managing the condition. It is very reassuring that the author is a doctor and has suffered from the condition herself. The recipes are realistic and can easily fit into feeding a whole family. There are lots of recipes I would be happy to try and the format of the book is very appealing. It is obvious that the author is very knowledgeable on the condition and has a genuine desire to share this knowledge and help others.

For those who suffer or live with someone with IBS, Dr. Rachel Pauls has written a very simple yet comprehensive cookbook to aid in identifying low FODMAP foods, providing an elimination diet, and numerous recipes that can be prepared for folks with assorted other food restrictions or preferences. The introduction is comforting and inviting and most importantly, it makes sense.

A really interesting book about IBS and the Low FODMAP diet. I have had IBS for a long time, and its great to read a book like this so that I remind myself what I could be doing differently and better, and also understand a bit more about the condition. There is a complete shopping list and recipe plan for four weeks, which made things really simple to follow. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a really neat book that I hope is able to help the people in my family who suffer from gastro issues. I love having recipes that follow the low-FODMAP diet since it can sometimes be tricky to figure out what to make for dinner. This book helps with that!

A great introductory book to Fodmap. Having had problems with digestion most of my life within a few weeks of cutting out the Fodmaps I feel so much better. The recipes are easy to follow and the early pages about exactly what to avoid are so helpful. I will def be buying a copy and recommending it to my library to purchase.

As someone who suffers from both IBS and Crohns Disease, with both having an impact on my digestive health, I was eager to pick this up; anything that can ease the symptoms is worth a try to me. Dr Rachel Pauls is an expert in IBS and also has the condition herself and has found that a low-FODMAP, (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols), diet is more effective in treating IBS symptoms than costly medications.

Most people with digestive conditions will already know and understand what FODMAP is; I know my doctor told me about it years ago during a consultation and even gave me a list of the foods and food groups to avoid and I must admit, for a while, I ignored it. For those who don't know FODMAPs are foods that trigger Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, such as cramping and bloating, and should be purged from your diet as much as possible if you suffer from GI conditions.

This is a superb cookbook. The first 31 pages are dedicated to explaining exactly what IBS is, what FODMAP is and a four-week plan is set out for you to follow if you wish. It's split into eight chapters: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and the IBS Solution; Easy Breakfasts For Home or on the Road; Simple Starters and Sides; Healthy Fish and Shellfish; Delicious Meat and Poultry; Superfood Vegan and Vegetarian Meals; Mouthwatering Snacks and Treats; and Amazing Stocks, Sauces, Dressings and Dips.

Each recipe is easy to follow and having tried some of them I can attest that they are very tasty. They are set out well and the ingredients are those you can find at the supermarket or in your cupboard. The photographs complement the recipes beautifully and give you an idea of how the finished product should look. This is an excellent cookbook which is an indispensable source of help for those with GI issues.
Paul also has a website: rachelpaulsfood.com, which is full of information and recipes, you can visit for more information. Many thanks to Fair Winds Press for an ARC.

I requested a review copy of this book because I am a mess, y'all. I have some food issues, and had a reaction to something (ingredients changed in a product I've had before) this summer, and I haven't quite recovered. I'm going through all the crazy tests, and I've been told to follow a low-FODMAP diet.

The first dietician my doctor found for me to work with would be great for anyone trying to lose weight, but she had no clue about this diet. The low-FODMAP diet is quite complicated and very counter-intuitive. If you've been trying to eat healthy but you feel terrible, this might be the one for you. Some examples: you can have strawberries but not apples, real maple syrup but not honey, rice and potatoes but not cauliflower, onions or garlic.

This book briefly and succinctly describes the diet, gives you a four-week meal plan, and then recipes. There are some great tips throughout. (My tip is get out every measuring utensil you have, plus the kitchen scale, cause you're gonna need them.)

The weakness of this book is that there are different reasons people need a diet like this, and for many people, this should be a very temporary diet. I felt her version relied more on sweet (maple syrup) and fat for flavor. My particular situation requires lower fat and lower sugar, so I will have to omit or reduce much of the sweetener. However, the recipes look reasonable and won't feel like "diet" food. You may also need to talk to your health team about whether MMC (migrating motor complex) protocol is needed--it requires 4 hours between caloric intake (meals must be four hour apart and not right before bedtime) that doesn't allow me to have 3 meals and 2 snacks per day.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the review copy. I may buy this for myself or someone I know who struggles with this prescribed diet. Expected publication October 20, 2020.

Additional Resources:
Monash University, considered THE experts. They have an app (paid) that helps with specific ingredients but IMO is not a standalone resource.
Gourmend has good explanations of FODMAPs and substitutions. They currently offer chicken broth (no garlic or onion) and a garlic substitute called Garlicscape.
I love garlic in everything, so what's a girl to do? Fody offers garlic infused olive oil, pasta sauces, salsa, and more. Much of their product line has ingredients I can't have, but the products I've tried are worth the money. (unless you have the time and energy to make it ALL from scratch.)

I've had to deal with IBS for the last 8 years. I've read countless blogs, cookbooks, articles and more of peoples accounts, how they deal with IBS, and recipes galore. Rachel Pauls cookbook, The Low-FODMAP IBS Solution Plan and Cookbook, gave me so many new recipe ideas that helped with my lack of inspiration lately. I've already made a few of the recipes and found them delicious! I would highly recommend to anyone who was just staring out with the low FODMAP diet, but also to those like me who just need a some inspiration.
