Description
Lies, Deceit, Vengeance, Desire, and Hate…
wrapped up in a façade of all that sparkles and shines.
A pretty face, a fetching smile, a fabulous gown, a flutter of lashes at just the right moment – Miriam had been taught she must do all these things to land a wealthy husband. Much preferring the company of books to people, the only thing that stopped Miriam from fleeing to the countryside was her younger sister - who was counting on Miriam to make a match that would ensure she could care for her mother and sister properly.
He knew his duty to his title and he would do as was necessary.
Although Hugh Compton, Earl of Ashington, hadn’t wanted his father’s title at the age of nine and twenty, he gained it two years ago when his father died unexpectedly. The only good that had come of that was Hugh had been able to move his father’s wife to the dowager house.
Now it was time to marry.
Many disliked the arrogant Earl of Ashington but none so much as his brother.
After his mother was sent off as if she were trash to be disposed of, Nathaniel swore he’d even the score. With the intent of charming the boring Lydia Ramsbury right out of his brother’s arms, Nathaniel discovered it was a new face that had captured his brother's attention - a one Miss Miriam Bathurst.
Vengeance had never looked so sweet.

Between the pages of Glitter readers will be transported to England, and taken on the admirable journey of a young girl in search of a better life. As Miriam settles into her new normal we start to see her embrace a life she never thought she would have. In her mind marriage always involved love and happiness. But she soon learns that those two things aren't so important to her impending husband. Desperation has lead her here, but will it be strong enough to keep her rooted? Can she really go against everything in her heart and let her head lead her astray?
Just as the author took a chance on something new, I did the same. I am not normally a historical romance reader, as it is usually not my cup of tea. But I know Ms. Glines work, and I knew she would give me something that I would love no matter what era or style it was written in. She would put her one of kind twist on things, create words that touched my heart and characters that would leave a mark... and she did just that! I absolutely loved what I found waiting between the pages here. I highly recommend you take a chance on this one, these characters will find their way into your heart in a matter of a few pages!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Glitter by Abbi Glines was a beautifully written Historical Romance. I fell in love with Miriam. Her strength and love for her sister, willing to do what ever she had to so her family would have the life they deserved just melted my heart. She hadn't been given love her whole life but she shined with her heart full of love. I absolutely loved little Emma. How could you not love that little firecracker? This book does have a HEA and I loved it so much. I highly recommend this book!!!
Thank you for the ARC!
Love the genre switch for Abbi.
First of all I will ready anything written by Abbi Glines, so in that way I am biased.
Historical fiction is always a fun read for me, however not usually my first choice. So when I went into this one I was not sure. But as usual Ms. Glines did not disappoint! Love Triangle Alert!
When a lady is sent to London for the "season" to find a well to do husband to care for her and her younger sibling, of course you need some drama and love triangle.
Miriam is easy to love from the beginning, she stay strong and true to herself throughout the book which I love.
Lord Ashington was not so easy to love but grows on you throughout the story, which I believe is intentional.
Nicholas was a surprise, and I am happy with the way his character ended up.
My favorite character in the book is Aunt Harriet, we all need a woman like her in our life!
Great fun read and I will probably read it again!
Miriam Bathurst, 18, reluctantly leaves behind her beloved 12 year old sister Whitney, who walks with a limp due to a fall from a horse, to move to London with her Uncle Alfred and Aunt Harriet. After their father passed away, the girls were left with his huge gambling debt and a mother who doesn't pay much attention to either of them. Though Miriam is being sent to London for the marriage mart, she would much rather spend her time reading and writing novels. However, Miriam knows that the only way to support Whitney and her mother is to find a husband, and she is willing to do anything for her sister. Though she misses Whitney, Miriam finds her Aunt Harriet, an American, to be a real hoot and someone with whom she loves to spend company. She also feels a sense of pride from her Uncle Alfred, something she never once felt from her cold, insensitive father. After Miriam makes her appearance with the ton, it seems there are two young men both hoping to make her their bride. The only problem is that the men are half brothers, fiercely competitive, and both devilishly handsome. Lord Ashington has all the women charmed, but he only has his sight set on Miriam, her beauty and spunk captivating his attention. His half brother, Nicholas Compton, however, is merely trying to ruin Ashington's chance with Miriam, so he begins calling on her as well. Though Compton knows how to impress Miriam, she can see through his game and know he is not courting her for the right reasons. As the half brothers come to call on Miriam, often running into each other, the story becomes rather humorous. And it seems that Lord Ashington is hiding a bit of a surprise from Miriam. A surprise that really makes this story so much more special, in my opinion.
If you are having a Bridgerton hangover and need something to tide you over until the next season is released, then look no further. Abbi Glines has outdone herself, writing a historical regency romance that is both well-written and fabulously researched. This is a slow burn romance with plenty of drama. I also love the huge role that sibling relationships play in the story, whether through the loving relationship of sisters Miriam and Whitney or the combative one of Lord Ashington and Compton. I would highly recommend this entertaining story of elegance, family, and romance.
