This was a great story except for one thing. The intimate scenes were much too detailed for my liking. I like good clean romance stories, not steamy stories. This was definitely steamy. The story itself was really quite good. Lorelei used the last of her money to travel from Ohio to Nebraska to be a librarian. Only problem is, the library is burning when she arrives. She meets Luke in the street and they are both covered in soot. The mayor tells her there are no decent jobs for ladies in their town, and suggests she marry Luke. Knowing her few options, she agrees. So they marry. Then they get to know each other. He is oldest of six boys, so there is a ready made family to take care of. It really is a wonderful story, I just don't like too many details.
Lorelei Sanders arrives in town after a long journey to find the library she was hired to run is burning up in flames. She's at her wits end as its her only chance to make a decent life for herself since her father passed away. She is surprised when one of the soot faced firefighters approaches her to check if she is ok as her despair is written all over her face. Luke finds more than he bargained for when he came into town to buy supplies. I enjoyed this story of simple country life.
4 stars, A promised job, gone-now what?
AN UNEXPECTED WIFE by Susan Payne
Lorelei was promised a wonderful job in a grand, new library, but she arrives in Nebraska and finds that it is gone. She plans on getting any other respectable job for a lady but finds that there are no respectable jobs available.
Luke Foster happens upon her and decides that she would make a great addition to his family, as a paid housekeeper. The mayor doesn't see it that way, so Lorelei and Luke find themselves married and headed home, with no warning whatsoever.
A believable historical fiction novel. There was too much detailed intimacy in the book, I easily skipped past those pages, but it would be a better book if it wasn't included.

A good historical romance - one of my favorites in the genre. The characters were heartwarming and likable. A bit of intimate detail. This story kept me entertained and I look forward to reading more from this author!

She's a librarian who lost her library in a fire. He's a rancher raising his younger brothers after their parents death. Together they become a couple who loves, grows, and will fight for each other, their family, and their friends.
I really enjoyed this book and the romance that blossomed into a true, powerful love. Our heros brothers were written in a way that makes you want to read all of their stories. There were sex scenes between a married couple, but they were a little graphic.
All in all, it was a enjoyable, easy read and I would eagerly read more of her books.
I just reviewed An Unexpected Wife by Susan Payne. #AnUnexpectedWife #NetGalley
An enjoyable book to read. It was light-hearted and had a good story, interesting characters. There was nothing l disliked as l could follow the story and liked all the brothers who made Lorelei welcome when she arrived.. Thank you for allowing me to read it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own..
Luke and Lorelei never expected to end up together, but when Luke comes to her rescue, t's obvious these two mismatched people were meant to be. Each are overcoming their own hardships and disillusionment but they find passion together as well as a life neither expected
I am on the fence about this one! I thought a lot of the plot turns were very interesting so I was excited to see where those went. But there were maybe too many that didn't really develop fully that made it rather a disappointment. Interesting characters but didn't really get enough of them.
It's no masterpiece or even a great romance read but there was something about it that I couldn't just dismiss it. It looks to be part of series so I am honestly hoping that the process is slowed down, the story develops more and a great series starts to take shape.
I received an advanced reader copy from Netgalley & Wild Rose Press to prepare my honest review.
