Description
Dogs, cats, and birds are just some of the pets included in this book. With 15 fun drawing projects, I Can Draw: Favorite Pets is a collection of some of kids’ most loved animals. All of the drawings are created with simple shapes that are easy for young artists to make, and the cute illustrations are appealing and approachable to young ones.
The book begins with an introduction to drawing materials and instructions on how to use the book, and then it jumps right into the drawing projects. For a pet bunny:
- Kids start with a square, add a line, a curved line, and some more straight and curved lines. They are encouraged to keep following along with each step.
- As they make their way through the multiple steps, all the new pencil marks to make are shown in a different color so it’s easy to know what to draw next.
- Once they near the end of the project, these young artists will start to see a drawing of a bunny rabbit appear on their paper, and now all that’s needed is to add color.
Each title in the I Can Draw series features easy step-by-step drawing lessons for little artists. Starting with basic shapes, such as a square, a rectangle, a triangle, and a circle, children will discover how to draw a range of subjects. The books in the I Can Draw series provides the perfect introduction to drawing for budding artists.
Have even more drawing fun with: I Can Draw: Wild Animals, I Can Draw: Cats & Kittens, I Can Draw: Everything Cute & Cuddly, and I Can Draw: Dogs & Puppies.

Cute drawing book that is very easy to follow. My 7 year old has really enjoyed polishing her drawing skills and has produced some adorable drawings. This whole series is great for this age group I particular.
This is a great introduction to art, for young artists. The book shows easy to read, step by step lessons, which introduce the reader to art tools, and a description of how to use basic shapes, such as triangle, circle, square and rectangle, in order to draw pets easily. My daughter and I have had a lot of fun drawing pets from the book, such as a cat to represent our own cat, and some birds, to represent the birds we feed in our garden.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Favorite Pets is a short book that shows how to draw 15 different animals in a clear and simple way with easy steps. This book reminded me of the Ed Emberley books of my childhood is a is a great first drawing book for children.
Starting with simple shapes and following very clear step-by-step instructions, this book will certainly be appreciated and celebrated by even the youngest learners.
Lovely illustrations and good variety in the animals offered in this "favorite pets" edition.
Draw 15 common pets in a dozen steps or less? Yes, thank you!! Despite being one of the worst artists on the planet, I do a lot of creative approaches to literature and although students aren’t scored on their artistic ability, many are embarrassed by their drawings. This book will be a huge help. I think I’ll get the whole series and make them available.
I love that there are very few worlds, making them perfect for my ELL classes, and the words that are there are more suggestions or ideas to enhance the pictures.
My only criticism would be that instead of a Guinea pig and gerbil and ferret, perhaps another dog that doesn’t look like a fox? There are two options for rabbits, would have rather seen two for dogs or cats which are much more common pets.
Favorite Pets: Learn to draw using basic shapes--step by step! Is another great book in the children's learn to draw series. A variety of familiar animals are included in the 15 projects aimed at beginners or young children. Basic shapes are used that will be familiar to all young children and the instructions are very clear, step by step and illustrated in detail. An excellent rainy day book that will give children a good start in drawing.
I think I need to thank Emily Fellah for giving me a great deal of pleasure as I've tried out the various drawings, sorry, no kids handy right now, tweaking them as needed to match pets known to me. The instructions and illustrations easy to follow, and all you really need is a pencil, eraser, paper, and preferably some colors. Fellah takes you through the process of creating, well, favorite pets, and more in a direct, simple process. The result is a great deal of fun and spurs creativity as you get better at it. Yes, there is much to try and learn for even those of us who would classify as grown-up kids. For me, I've been thinking I'm going to take this another step and try using the designs in this and some of the other books offered for some rock painting. For true children, they will be delighted to discover their ability to draw their own pets, whether the usual cat and dog or something a bit more exotic like a parrot or ferret, among others. Fellah will take them through each drawing step by step, each illustrated, and show final results that can be expected. Take it from this grown-up kid, it's a great deal of fun for all ages. Be prepared for many, many pictures to adorn your refrigerator door.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup, with #WalterFoster for the ARC and the fun.
I Can Draw! Favorite pets is a delightfully useful line drawing activity book for youngsters. Due out 8th Feb 2022 from Quarto on their Walter Foster Jr imprint, it's 32 pages and will be available in paperback format.
The drawings are encouragingly simple and the step by step tutorials are accessible and easy to follow and replicate. Each of the 15 drawings has a tutorial series with steps to follow and some simple tips for adding color. All of the pets included in the tutorials are popular and well known and happily some are outside the ordinary cats and dogs (though they're included too of course). There are tutorials for fish, frogs, and ferrets, and they're all delightful. They're all cute and recognizable and it will be easy for anyone to follow. This book is part of a series with lots of how-to books with similar formats.
Great selection for a gift for a young artist, perhaps with some added sketch pads and pencils. This would also make a superlative classroom or library book. I would also recommend this book to babysitters, grandparents, parents, and basically anyone who spends a fair bit of time with small kids in order to up their 'draw with me' game. I really enjoyed this (and managed to recreate a credible bulldog myself).
Five stars. This is a fun activity book and will provide hours of quiet play.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Really cute book on drawing favorite pets that children may have such as frogs, rabbit, parrot, a very cute ferret, guinea pigs and some others, the shapes are simple to draw and can be decorated in different ways to add interest.. It is only a small book of 30 pages, but it certainly has a lot of information and projects to learn from.
Great for kids of all ages, and adults can also get some fun out of this book.
Fun, easy to follow drawing book for beginners. I have a child that is just starting to get into art and this is exactly what we have been looking for. We are planning to try all versions of this drawing series.
As with the others in this set, it's so easy to follow! This book is super cute. I love how simple this book makes drawing different pets. Easy to follow step by step guide to drawing such cute illustrations. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is a fantastic little book for young artists, and shows how to get from step to step easily. There are 15 drawings you can follow along with in all, and I completed them using Goodnotes - you can see the results on my blog @ geographreads.com! Some of these were a little difficult for me, a terrible artist, so this gets a solid four stars from me.
