Description
Sometimes I Wish It Could Always Be Day is a collection of conscious poems that explore diverse themes like climate change, war, spirituality, racism, and so on. The diverse themes notwithstanding, what strings this collection of poems together is the passion and conviction of the poet. Rich in metaphor and imagery and textured with flowery language, the poet hammers each message he is creating with the fire of a prophet and the stealth of a master of words.
In the first verse of Summation, he writes:
1 + 1 equals the white
rattling dark noses with the
wealth of their skin; equals
dark noses begging for spaces to breathe; for
voices to ride on; for justice, as if she's wandered
away like death's dear.
You’ll see this stealth and mastery of language throughout this collection. And this is what gives this collection its strength.

“Deji Ajibade’s debut collection of poems, “Sometimes I Wish It Could Always Be Day” is a timely collection that addresses the current happenings in our society today.” – Tolu’ A. Akinyemi, Multiple Award-Winning Author
“If anything, Sometimes I Wish It Could Always Be Day is a book that takes the reader through the author’s mind and exposes us to his thought patterns and what they hold important and valid enough to forever immortalize in beautifully written lines of poetry thus converted into a book of poetry fit for anyone with an open mind and spirit.” – Emmanuel Ojex, Creative Head and Content Curator at ArtHut (arthut.org.ng).
“To reference Nigerian pop singer, Tems, “Crazy Tings” have surely been happening since the turn of the decade, but there’s still a lot to hold on to, and the candle that is hope must not be allowed to flicker out. At least, that’s what Ajibade appears to be saying in this sometimes supplicatory, sometimes rueful, sometimes quizzical poetry collection.” Jerry Chiemeke, Writer, Editor, Music Journalist, Film Critic and Lawyer.
