This book is STUNNING. Not only visually but in the broad content it covers. At the beginning, it sheds light on not only some really important research, but also some really important people too before going into some fab animal and wildlife profiles.
I will be buying this book as a physical copy as the ebook as a standalone is fab, but it’s a book your shelf also needs and in purchasing you are supporting the cause to help in further research. Which I am all for!
This topic is a close one for my own heart as a scientist and books like these just make my heart sing. To read more about the ground breaking and awe inspiring research that’s being undertaken is such a worthwhile endeavour and especially for children too. It’s written expertly and for everyone. I loved it. The animal and anatomy facts were super fun to read and I learnt a load about animals I didn’t even know existed!
Honestly this book was just a delight from start to finish. This isn’t just a book for a younger audience but is an amazing book for parents and definitely not young children (like me) to enjoy too. There was so much covered as well in its content. So much to learn and shared in such a beautiful way.
It’s a feast for the eyes, mind and soul and it’s a solid recommend for anyone and everyone.
I received an e-ARC for this book, and I’m immediately adding the book to my Amazon Wishlist. This book is perfect for your little nature lovers. It includes so many different facts for many different animals. It’s great information, but not too much so that your child would get bored. It’s beautifully written. Great illustrations.
Supports a great cause of organizations the author thinks are working really hard to protect wildlife. I love this aspect so much!!!
Really breaks down in a visual way different aspects of animals: ecosystems, teeth and claws, herds, anatomy, eating/food chain, social networks, grooming, building homes, and my favorite category, weird & wonderful.
I learned more than I thought I would to be honest. This is very educational but still fun and beautiful.
Julia Rothman’s Wildlife Anatomy is a beautiful book. It’s going to be one that’s equally at home on the coffee table or in the family bookshelf to refer back to for years to come.
In terms of family, I’d say it’s accessible to everyone though will be appreciated by children from around 7 or 8 years up. Despite this, younger children will enjoy looking at the gorgeous pictures and being read to some of the simpler facts. I’m a parent myself with a lifelong interest in nature and there was still so much for me to learn about and interest me here, so I think the author has really nailed it in terms of producing a wildlife book that really can appeal to all ages.
A lot of thought and care has gone into making the book flow really nicely between the various themes and picking interesting categories. The illustrations really are fantastic, too. The same care has gone into fact-checking (just one small error in which the Tiger shark bio has a picture of a Sand Tiger Shark – similar name, different shark.) There was so much I learnt about animals I thought I knew a lot about already and fascinating related species. Rothman is adept at showing what a diverse range of wildlife there is and how unique some of these amazing animals are.

Something important this book achieves is highlighting the need for the conservation of these animals and the sheer wonder we are lucky enough to have in our natural world, a wonder that needs to be cherished and protected. The author successfully does this without ever being preachy – she lets the interesting facts and wholesome feel of this book do that by itself.
This book is such a lovely read I would go as far as to suggest it could ignite a love of nature with the discovery and amazement you can find within its pages, or remind someone who already feels that way of why exactly they love wildlife and nature so much. Most people regardless of prior knowledge will also find things to learn and be amazed at all over again.
This would make a perfect gift or a little treat to yourself.
Thankyou to the author and published for allowing me to read this book on Netgalley in return for my honest review.
Julia Rothman has., once again, hit it out of the park. We own several of her other titles so imagine my joy and excitement to see that she had written a wildlife book! The facts and illustrations in this book is spot on and you can tell the research necessary has been done to give us a book that is full of amazing information. Perfect for animal lovers everywhere, especially homeschoolers or those who love learning. Rothman continues to please and educate us with each of her titles and I cannot wait to see what she puts out next.
I am so excited for this book to come out! All her other books are staples in my house. That way nature and wildlife are brought to life so beautifully is amazing. I learned so much with out feeling overwhelmed. My kids wanted to go more in depth about so many of the different animals. The art work was amazing! I can't wait to havey physical copy to read with my kids.
Julia Rothman is a staple in our homeschool library! The book is not only full of so much information, it is so gorgeous! I can not wait to purchase a hard copy to add to our collection! Absolutely perfect new addition!
Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the opportunity to get an advanced e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wildlife Anatomy is such a wonderful book. Julia's illustrations are amazing and I loved the short descriptions. It was very informative and straight to the point, but it was done in a way that it made reading the book fun. This is a perfect book for children and adults.
Not sure about what I was expecting from the title, but the book certainly surpassed it all. Since I was not familiar with Julia's series, it was only after seeing the cover and reading the description that I requested a copy. The title hints at something not just serious, but a bit boring. But boy, it couldn't be soooo different Thank God for the subtitle and description.
Wonderfully illustrated book full of facts that any children with an interest in animals will enjoy. It covers miriads of animals from different continents, from spiders to eagles, from the most famous and glamorous to some less known animals.
Best of all is the science behind the bits of information and the illustrations. I have done some biology courses for my uni degree, and I doubt there is anything that hasn't been carefully researched. And the way of grouping the information is also fantastic.
I will highly recommend this book.
Wildlife Anatomy
5 Stars
Wildlife Anatomy is another great addition to the Anatomy series by Julia Rothman. This book begins by touching on research, then moves into straightforward learning about ecosystems, and animals living in them. There are interesting animal facts and illustrations to better understand more about animals, and the world that they live in.
I love the charming illustrations; it's so impressive she wrote and illustrated this lovely book. I'm surprised by the sheer amount of content covered. This book makes my heart happy! Looking forward to getting a physical copy for myself.
Overall, Wildlife Anatomy is phenomenal! It's definitely a good choice for any animal lover, young or old. I love the interesting facts, adorable illustrations and loads of educational gems.
*Note- This book covers evolution. So, for parents who don’t believe in evolution, I wouldn't recommend it.
Thank you, NetGalley and Storey Publishing, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Just like her other books, this book is a treat to look at. Rothman once again created a whimsical and pleasing book that takes the reader on a journey through the world to learn about wild animals. My children enjoyed the book, but I did too! We learned a lot and enjoyed looking at the new animals as well as learning facts about our favorite animals.
Wildlife Anatomy is another fantastic addition to the Anatomy series by Julia Rothman. This is the perfect companion for homeschoolers or children wanting to learn more about animals. With stunning illustrations and interesting facts and educational points, this book will be one to go back to often.
Wow, this is a book that conqueers the reader from the very first pages.
The title is a bit misleading, there is minimal anatomy in the strict sense of the word, in fact it is about the external characteristics of the various species, mostly mammals. On the other hand it is perfect for children, the text is short but very informative and the drawings are delightful .This book is a perfect accompanion for a visit in the zoo. It is very entertaining while containing a lot of information. I appreciated also the description of the various habitats and the behaviour of the animals. and the notes about the endangered species like the lions.
I liked the font type and the layout too.
Absolutely recommended.
This is an incredible book that is truly perfect for any and every age. The illustrations are gorgeous with simple vivid details and bright colors that make every image stand out. "Wildlife Anatomy" is truly unique with a fountain of tidbits, information, and trivia that includes everything from environments to claws to vertebrates. This is perfect for children and students learning about animals, along with what makes a predator and prey, the food web, and types of eaters. From what they eat to the basic anatomy of those such as the giraffe and flamingo, the information is set against stunning illustrations that you'll instantly fall in love with. I haven't seen a book like this before and highly recommend it!
Julia Rothman is costing me a fortune !
The children read this book for hours and then decided to look on Amazon to see what other books were in the series, now I am getting constant requests for these books to appear on their bookshelves. The youngest wants the sticker books. The problem being that I have to agree that this book and the others in the series are FABULOUS. And educational but please don't mention that to the grandchildren.
this is a fun book for kids to teach them about wild animals. I thought the illustrations were beautiful and it would make a great bedtime story book!
Thanks to Netgalley for access to this advance copy for my honest review. I will definitely be purchasing the hard copy version as soon as it is released. Wildlife Anatomy is yet another beautiful book from Julia Rothman. Our family currently owns all of the other books in her Anatomy collection. This collection is used heavily in our homeschooling, but my children can often be found reading them even when we are not doing lessons.. The wonderfully illustrated pictures and thoughtful text cover a wide range of “wild” topics. The six chapters are: The World Over, Tooth and Claw, Have you Herd, Social Networks, Built from the Ground Up, and Weird and Wonderful.
Our favorite parts of the newest book include the final chapter titled Weird and Wonderful. This chapter covers animals that have extraordinary characteristics. We loved learning about various snakes and frogs. My son, who loves insects and other small animals, really enjoyed the chapter Built from the Ground Up. This chapter includes not only insects and arachnids but also birds and some small mammals. It teaches about the various homes that these creatures build in or low to the ground.
This book does not go in depth on any one topic but is a great reference that allows children to gain interest in a particular topic before deep diving using various other references. This book is also good at showing relationships between various animals and ecosystems.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Colorful and eye-catching cover on this book.
This was a fun book to read. To start eye-catching and colorful graphics make this a visually pleasing book to go through. On top of that, it is packed full of all kinds of information ranging from ecosystems, animals, social networks, and even the "weird and wonderful". There is plenty here to keep readers of all ages engaged and learning. 👍🏻👍🏻

Wildly Fun! Did you see what I did there? This series of books is an absolute riot. My boys LOVE these books, and this one just makes the collection so much better. It covers basically any wild animal you can think of. It has amazing facts about them. And not just about the animal itself. About the environment it lives in, the eco system it thrives in, what it eats, etc. Seriously, so good!
I have many Julia Rothman books and they make me so happy to look at and for the information she shares! This latest one is even more charming and fun to read. My kids and I could spend hours going through her books. I definitely recommend to anyone interested in wildlife and nature, art, and illustration. It is a fun, smart reference book.
We love this series! Another great addition to the Rothman anatomy series. Excellent resource for nature study for homeschooling and curious children in general. Fascinating facts and lovely illustrations make this a favorite in our home. Highly recommend this.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
What a lovely, colourful and interesting book this is. The information is really interesting and well presented, with fun illustrations - kids would love this book. Mainly to give an understanding of the worlds eco -system through animals around the regions of the world. I love this book, it was very informative and I love the illustrations and ease of read. .. Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC
I nature school my daughters on the weekends and we LOVE Julia Rothman's books. Her newest book on wildlife has become our new favorite.
The way she melds information and images into a nature journal-esque resource makes my kids love searching out new information. The drawings are detailed and the diagrams are very easy to read and draw conclusions. We've been wanting to do a larger-scale animal unit after finishing up learning about oceans last year, and this is the perfect follow up.
If you've never read one of the Anatomy series yet, the books look like you've discovered an explorers nature diary -- there are drawings of animals to identify, descriptions of behavior and habitat, notations on their hunting patterns and what they eat, and how the whole system works together. They're split up into different categories that make it easy to flip through or read all together - and this one is no different. If your kids are into nature, or you've just come back from the zoo and they can't stop talking about seeing an elephant for the first time, HIGHLY recommend giving this book a look.
If you loved Nature, Farm, Food, and Ocean Anatomy, you’re going to love Wildlife Anatomy. This was the perfect book to add to our Zoology unit. With beautiful illustrations and such great information, this book is the perfect addition to your library. My kids loved it!
Thank you NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the opportunity to read this book in advance of publication.
Take my money!
Wonderfully illustrated history and physical of the earth's oceans and inhabitants. The author is also a fantastic illustrator who makes it more real and for us to have more appreciation of all of the wildlife that many of us will never be able to visit. It's zoology for the rest of us! While it seems to be viewed as a book for children, the information and technical verbiage kind of belies that narrow definition. I promote it as for ages 3 to 103! Can't wait to go out and buy several print copies for others! I loved it and so will my family.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to any school or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Storey Publishing, LLC via NetGalley. Thank you!
By purchasing this book, the author will be using all of her advance royalty payment to help two promising students that need funding to get their master’s degrees to further help in protecting wildlife animals.
This is the book review for Wildlife Anatomy by Julia Rothman. This is a NEW addition to the Anatomy series that is loved by children and adults alike.
At Curating Edits, we personally own the collection, which includes Nature Anatomy, Farm Anatomy, and Food Anatomy out of the 8 already published. When I saw that Wildlife Anatomy was available to review, I jumped on it. These books are perfect educational reference books. That being said, they are just a fun, interesting read. We love a book that can work both ways. Each section can be turned into an entire Science lesson, that’s how detailed these books are.
Wildlife Anatomy is packed with so many wildlife animals and their unique features and attributes. Animals you might have never heard of, it’s such a fascinating learning experience. The illustrations are phenomenal and the research is exciting and educational.
Julia Rothman created the text and illustrations for this wonderful book. Alongside the help from Lisa Hiley. With six chapters and a resource area that offers information on organizations working hard to protect our wildlife.
By purchasing this book, the author will be using all of her advance royalty payment to help two promising students that need funding to get their master’s degrees to further help in protecting wildlife animals.
How honorable of the author to do such an inspiring act to help the future by helping these two students. Which you can read about in the introduction of the book. By purchasing this book, you too are doing something towards helping the future of wildlife animals and two special students.
You will have many favorite chapters in this book. From learning about an Ecosystem to more specific animal characteristics like in chapter 6, “Weird and Wonderful”. Wildlife Anatomy covers so much in easy-to-comprehend ways that will benefit the learning children and the adults reading it.
I have finally learned the difference between an Alligator and a Crocodile, because of this book! I love it, I already know I am going to be purchasing this book as a gift to a few animal lovers in my life.
I've seen this series of books recommended in many homeschool circles, so was excited to read this new addition on wildlife.
As expected, the illustrations were beautiful. The depth of information was perfect for my 9 year old..
It's a great resource for learning more about the anatomy, habitat etc of these animals.
My children loved it.
Highly recommend.
This was such a cute book! Great for animal lovers of any age. Full of fun and interesting facts of an array of animals from all over the world. This would make a great addition to any library or coffee table.
I've enjoyed Julia Rothman's other book, Nature Anatomy, so I was excited to read Wildlife Anatomy. The illustrations are whimsical - simple without being simplistic and with just the right amount of detail to depict each animal's unique attributes. It's a gorgeous book where you can read it from cover to cover or open to a random page and absorb some fun and interesting. This is a great gift book for any animal lover regardless of age - I'm pretty confident that you'll learn something new. I found myself sharing tidbits with others because the animal kingdom really is just amazing. Be sure to get an actual hardcopy of the book as it's much easier to navigate than on a kindle and you'll better appreciate how the colors of the illustrations add charm to an already special book.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the e-arc.
