Hanukkah is coming, and the dinos are all busy getting ready!
They make brisket and latkes, and the dino-kids play with a dreidel, act out the Hanukkah story, open gifts, and eagerly await their turn to light the menorah.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the eARC! Dino- Hanukkah is a perfect book for Dinosaur lovers. The Dinosaurs are back and are getting ready to celebrate Hanukkah. They go through the traditions of Hanukkah, and how the holiday is celebrated. This is a perfect addition to dinosaur lovers library, as well as the holiday section of a bookshelf. The rhyming throughout the story is a great way to expose young readers to rhyming. The pictures are bright and colorful making them very appealing.
What fun!
All the Dinos are ready for Hanukkah and the Celebration of Lights begins. Each one lights a candle on each of the eight nights, complete with gifts and games. The rhyming makes this celebration special.
The illustrations by Barry Gott are delightful, imaginative, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Lerner Publishing Group/Carolrhoda Books ® via NetGalley. Thank you!
What an adorable book! My son loved having me read this rhyming story aloud to him! The dino pictures are adorable (love the messy Triceratops kitchen lol) and the story of Hanukkah told over the eight nights incorporating the different traditons is perfect for young ones. Definitely a great addition to any home for holiday reading!
I received an ARC of “Dino-Hanukkah” from NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.
Written by Lisa Wheeler and illustrated by Barry Gott, this richly illustrated book is not just a perfect gift for a Jewish youngster. This children’s picture book could serve as a starting point for introducing non-Jewish children to Judaism and helping them to understand the diversity of people in the United States.
The story followed a group of dinosaurs who gather together to celebrate Hanukkah. They make lates and jelly doughnuts, each brisket and even kugel! The author is careful of using overly long words. For example, instead of Tyrannosaurus rex, she simply uses T. rex, and so on. By shortening these sometimes very long scientific names and pairing them with easily identifiable dinosaurs, young children will easily be able to read this book.
I thought that this book was darling and hope that it will end up in both public and personal libraries throughout the United States.
SO CUTE! As a Preschool teacher at a Jewish School this one is going to be a must in my classroom! As always with this series, It’s a great story, rhyme, and gorgeous bright illustrations.
What a fun way to explain all the ins and outs of Hanukkah! Dinosaurs are always a hit so using them to explain the different nights and traditions of Hanukkah is brilliant. The pictures are adorable and I love everything about this book.
My children are seasoned readers of the whole dinosaur sport and holiday series, and as an interfaith household, were thrilled to read Dino-Hanukkah. The story was well done, as always, and included pertinent information, that went deeper than the usual Hanukkah stories. We loved it, and will be buying a copy for our home when it comes out! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
This dinosaur Hanukkah book is adorable!!! I absolutely love the rhyming and flow of the book. The illustrations are bright and beautiful. It touches on all of the Hanukkah foods and small details of the Hanukkah story while keeping children entertained. My 5 year old loved it!
Okay, that was adorable!! Eight days of Dino-Hanukkah with traditions, yummy food, and family, but Dinosaur style. The rhymed story and colorful illustrations would make this entertaining and informative for any child!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced digital copy. All opinions are my own.
5 stars & 5 year old approved!
Hanukkah book for little boys and girls. I love to see more books like this for little ones. The Dinos make it accessible and fun while learning about celebrating Hanukkah.
Grab a dreidel,
Give it a spin.
It’s time for
Dino-Hanukkah to begin!
This book is adorable. I love these lil Jewish dinos and their sweep preparations. This is a sweet, happy book with a cute, engaging art style. This book isn’t educational about Hanukkah, but rather illustrates a sweet, dino-tastic family gathering. I think lots of folks will love reading this to their children during the holiday season.
Lisa Wheeler's Dino-Hanukkah is a delightful, rhyming story about an adorable dinosaur family celebrating Hanukkah. They enjoy cooking - and eating! - kugel and brisket. They take turns lighting the shamash in the menorah. They rejoice in the traditions of the holiday in this charming story that will appeal to young readers everywhere. I can't wait to add this to my classroom's Holiday Book Basket, especially because we're in need of more wonderful stories that celebrate Jewish culture.
