Safe to say this is my fav read of 2023 so far. Loved the funny comments, moments and the found family trope with it.

Atia is a monster who everyone is supposed to hate but I can’t love her development enough throughout especially with Silas, Tristan and Cillian.

I loved the world building as it was a whole new world but not shoved with info the whole time which made it such an easy read to follow along.

Generally only expect one twist but this book had a few and loved each one. At some times I thought I predicted how it was going to end especially at one point but it didn’t and surprised me on that.

The flow of the whole book was smooth (nothing I hate more than filler scenes that are boring) and in the second half when it got fast paced kept me reading until 2am (worth it).

The second I finished reading I pre ordered a physical copy and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Probably my fault that I wasn't really gelling with this one - I'm not really a fan of 'creature' books, as well as (very specifically) books with bureaucratic depictions of godly realms. I found Silas and the rest of our little crew kind of annoying, and thought (similar to Bone Smith), that it felt like a pretty standard YA story.

I think fans of The Keeper of Night might really enjoy this, but sadly just not really for me.

The Night Hunt was a middling YA fantasy read for me. The opening definitely caught my interest. The characters and the story premise were all intriguing, and I was initially well invested in the story. The world building was nicely handled and the action moved along at a good pace throughout. Where things fell down for me a little was in the latter half of the book where the romance moved more to the foreground. The characters had interested me at first, but they later felt a little flat and unchanging, while the romance between the two main characters felt, to me at least, a little forced and I didn't buy into it. As such, I am giving this book 3.5 stars. Not everything worked for me, but enough did that I would suggest it's worth a read if you are a huge fan of the genre.

Atia is a monster, literally. Her girl dinner is fear, and as the last of her shapeshifting species, the Nefas, enjoys tormenting humans and avoiding the attentions of the wrathful Gods who rule over monsters. Silas is a Herald, who spends his days as the Gods errand boy, delivering edicts and curses to monsters who step out of line, deprived of his human memories or any idea of who he really is.
When Atia accidentally kills a human in defense of her friend, Silas curses her and removes her powers and immortality, but offers her a bargain. Ally with him, and break her curse by killing a vampire, a banshee and a God, on the proviso that the Gods powers be given to Silas so he can attain his humanity once again.
How can a monster say no?

The Night Hunt is a YA adventure fantasy, with a pop of romance. Quite a quick read, the pace moved quickly and as it’s a standalone, the world building was succinct and the characters were, while simple, enjoyable to float along beside. The most enjoyable part of this story was the snarky, sassy and sometimes sweet banter between the characters and the pops of Greek mythology were an excellent reference point.
The MC’s had a good dynamic, although I think their romance was very rushed, and might have worked better if they were questing alone. The side characters didn’t add anything to the story for me, and I wished for just the one ‘trope’- romance OR found family.
The redemption arc for our anti-hero’s was realistic and I loved the fact that we got the POV of a villain for a change.
The plot was uncomplicated and fits very well within the YA genre, and I’m here for the Monsters vs Gods storyline.
This book would be perfect for fans of Percy Jackson or Never a Monster.
