The monster books are quickly becoming a favorite of my 2.5 year old! She was very worried about the angry monster, Albie and wanted him to be happy. It was so cute to see her make the connections!
This book is a colorful way to teach children how to deal with big emotions and giving them the skills to do so. I wish I had something like this when I was younger.
The Angriest Monster on Mill Street is another great book in the mill street series. The author has done an incredible job of picking out behaviors that many children struggle with these days and write a story to help explain these behaviors and how to deal with them. I think that’s a huge issue with young kids these days - they have all these emotions but have not been taught what they mean or how how to manage them. So meet Albie - he is a monster that has a horrible temper and gets so angry that utter chaos erupts around him. Albie has to learn to not only control his tantrums but also fix the mess they cause. What I found interesting in this book is that it can show a child how big their tantrums can turn or be perceived when I often think they don’t realize how their anger comes across. (At least this is my experience some as a mother). As with the other books, the illustrations are bright, colorful and will definitely capture the attention of a child. The cute rhyming prose will help keep a child engaged and teaches some valuable lessons on anger management in a cute, entertaining way.
“But now when he’s mad, Albie knows how to cope.”
I really recommend these books to teachers and guidance counselors at schools. Great stories with great lessons in a way that kids will be able to relate to.
My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 2nd one I've read with my son's ages 4 & 6. They both loved it. The book did a great job explaining the big feelings the monster was feeling and the mess and chaos that comes with throwing a fit. I loved that they gave examples of how to calm down and be aware of your surroundings to come down from the big feelings your having. The book ends with the monster cleaning up his mess and making some friends that can help him next time he feels this way. This book will be a great resource to teachers, therapist, and parents who have kids with anger issues.
This book is so well written! My kids and I loved reading the story about the angriest monster, how he got that way, and how he learned to calm down his anger. I Love social emotional books and this is a great one to add to the shelf. Relatable and intelligent, perfect for young kids.
The Angriest Monster on Mill Street written by Sarah Sparks and illustrated by Sypha Venders is such a great kids book! I am a psychiatric social worker at an elementary school and will be purchasing this book to read to the kiddos I work with. I teach all the kiddos I work with about coping skills and how they can be used when they are feeling big emotions. This book is a great example of the five senses coping skill :)
Reading this story during reading time for our homeschooling, it was such a hit. I really feel like it was fun but also gets the important message across in a way children can understand. Great book overall and definitely recommend.
I absolutely loved this book! I loved how it portrayed what happens when we lose our temper and how it can affect those around us. one of my favorite parts was when Allie tried to calm down by using his 5 senses. This would be a fabulous book for kids at school. I absolutely loved it!
