Thank you to NetGalley for this e- copy of Sunshine, Hurricanes, Blizzards and Rainbows by Alex Wood in exchange for a honest review. This is a perfect book for mid-elementary school students (2nd to 4th grade) to learn about all aspects of weather through projects, word finds, color, experiments etc.Chock full of info.Very engaging book.!
This is a great introduction to weather for young readers. There are explanations for different kinds of weather and activities kids can do so they feel like scientists themselves.
The pictures are bright, the material is organized, and the presentation is upbeat and fun.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
Great learning tool!
Written, designed, and illustrated by Alix Wood.
The instructions and other illustrations are delightful!
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age, great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your public library (permission granted in print for users to photocopy for clients)!
I requested and received a temporary electronic copy on Adobe Digital Editions from Rosen Publishing Group/Windmill Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
This was an interesting way to present a lot of factual information to kids! It was very clever! I enjoyed the different activities that were included, as well as the variety of activities. I also liked how the author stated that it was okay to copy the pages of the book to complete the activities, and not destroy the book. I did find a few areas where information was repeated, but that was not a huge deal breaker for me. As a homeschool parent and a former teacher, I would recommend this book to those looking for a way to introduce weather concepts to children.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is such a fun book for early elementary kids to learn about and engage with weather and the water cycle. It reads like a hybrid of a nonfiction book and activity/workbook. Covering about 20 different topics, there is an explanation of each topic, fun and informative illustrations, and an activity to complete. My daughter enjoyed doing the simple activities, and I loved that they reinforced her learning. This book was a great supplement to our homeschool weather and water cycle unit study, and I highly recommend it!
Thank you to Rosen Publishing for gifting me with an ARC to review! All opinions are my own. My family loved it!
This book is a perfect way to teach young readers about weather. It was very well put together. It flowed well, and the illustrations were bold, colorful, and informative. This book is a wonderful addition to any science lab that hosts young students, parents who want to explain the weather to their children, and homeschool. The activities are easy and the answers are provided, so you need not be an expert. The science was accurate and the activities were well suited for K-3 grade students. As an adult I was very entertained with the book.
A great book for teaching kids about different weather conditions. Fun and interactive with great puzzles to do inside of the book and outside.
This is such a great book of science puzzles and activities specifically about weather. As a homeschool mom, this is a must have!
This is a shorter book that has a lot of color and fun to attract kids. The bite size pieces of information are great for younger elementary kids (this book would be great, information wise, for my 7 year old son, though some of the paper activities may be a bit beyond him). There are some fun actual experiments/crafts in here too (such as making your own rain guage, making fog, etc). I wish I had this download longer so I could've tried out more of these things to see how well they translate off of paper and into action.
I received a temporary ebook download of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book gives a great explanation of various science/weather concepts. It is age appropriate for middle grade with puzzles and activities within the book. The beautiful engaging illustrations and bright colors are so wonderful.
A very competent 'my first' weather book, that manages to cram everything in from the water cycle to the descriptions of the main cloud types, to blizzards and why sunsets have colours the daytime sky doesn't. It even managed to teach me something, about windsocks, that I had never had an inkling of. Tasks are here, too, to build a rain gauge, weather vane and so on. Learning also comes from the gentlest of puzzles – word searches, matching this to that to provide an old-school weather forecast chart, and so on. Bright colours and easy vocab go a long way to make this all appealing visually, and with it encouraging us to trace or get photocopied the puzzles to increase longevity it should be considered for all infant schools in need of such a volume. I don't see regretting the purchase as likely – it's as close to five stars as a bright and sunny day is to a sunny and bright day.
A fun activity book for teaching about the weather. Great for teachers, parents, and libraries for use to when educating young children.
