Description
Bewitching tarot meditations by bruja and award-winning writer Maria DeBlassie.
One part prose poetry, one part witchy insights, and one part study in learning the tarot, this book explores this mundane divination form for beginners and experts alike.
This cartomancy book was birthed from DeBlassie’s creative tarot studies in which she wrote 78-word prose poems for each of the 78 cards in the deck, using synchronicity, everyday magic, and her budding understanding of tarot symbolism and meanings to craft her tales.
It’s not your basic how-to-read tarot book, but more a how-to begin a conversation with this divination tool. As any tarot reader can tell you, dealing the deck is more than interpreting cards. It’s about building a relationship with this mystic tool and learning how you and the tarot can work together to discover numinous revelations.
This book is a series of proverbial spells. A series of stories. A series of synchronous messages and mystic musings. A journey into learning the tarot. Are you ready to start your adventure?
Advance Praise

""Those of us who read Tarot often talk about ""hearing what the cards have to say."" Listening to the cards is the most vital part of our relationship with them. And Maria deBlassie listens deeply. In Conversations with the Tarot, she shares her experiences in lyrical, poetic language that encourages further exploration and deepens the reader's understanding of the Tarot, both as individual cards with messages to share and as a complex tapestry woven with the threads of the human experience. This book is moving and inspiring, well worth your time whether you're an old hand or new to Tarot."" ~ Laura Perry, creator of The Minoan Tarot and author of The Cryptic Guide to the Hopeless, Maine Tarot

I've never read a tarot book like this before. I went in thinking maybe it would just be like every other guide book I'd read, but what I've found is a love letter to tarot, with a dedication to each individual card, both upright & reversed.
It's beautifully poetic and mediative to read. I will absolutely be purchasing a copy for my shelf.
I really loved this book! It was such a unique structure for a tarot book, and I loved the poems and insights. Very informative and well-structured!
I'll admit, I'm not the greatest expert in Tarot readings, but they fascinate me. The trouble is, any book I've come across in the past has riddles in their meanings or ominous predictions that leave a sense of nervousness when trying to find other 'lighter' meanings.
But there was none of that in Conversations with the Tarot. Maria DeBlassie perfectly blends poetry, some magic and positivity into each Tarot card reading—even ones that are usually considered bad, or even evil, omens. DeBlassie brings a lightness to the decks that are stereotyped as ominous or witchy.
Conversations with the Tarot is a must-read for anyone interested in poetry, the magic of the deck or who just wants a positive book.
Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book are daily reflections of her. Each cards contain one poem with its complementary journal. Rather than literal meaning, it gave the vibe, the understanding, the subtle hint. I think it's a good way to reflect about tarot and to evoke certain feelings that may or may not align with your understanding of a certain card.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for the eARC!
I adore this enchanting book of tarot. Rather than an instruction manual, it encourages personal connection with the cards, delving into own intuition and exploring what each chosen card means to you. I still call myself a novice despite using cards for years because I've never been one for doing spreads but instead pull one when needed. This book gave me the validation that using the cards like this was OK and encouraged me to go further. I'm inspired to pull a card daily and use it I tandem with journaling and see what happens.
The style of the book is light, easy to understand and reminds you to see the everyday magic around with help of tarot.
I really like this author's work so I was delighted to receive an e-copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher.
The book introduces the author's 78 word story and accompanying insight on each card pulled weekly. And that's it! It's very simple, illustrated by cards from the Rider Waite Smith deck and with a brief introduction and conclusion.
But I think it is a very valuable addition to any tarot library. As soon as I started to read I decided to do a 'Tarot Tuesday' pull as part of my own practice and I find that it really focusses on the essence of each card and adds a different dimension to my understanding. I have particularly liked writing my own story and insights and comparing them to the author's for the same card. That has been very insightful.
The only thing I would have preferred would be for the stories to be presented in suit and number order rather than in the order the author pulled the cards, but that's really because it would have made it easier to find them!
This is such a helpful and non confusing way to help readers better understand Tarot and all it can do for you. I love the journey she takes us on and her beautiful interpretations. I think this is a fantastic addition to one’s bookshelf!
This book transcends the conventional how-to-read tarot guide, offering a deeper exploration into building a profound relationship with the cards. It's really enlightening and suitable for those who recently delved into tarot and for seasoned practitioners seeking fresh insights to deepen their understanding. I have had always been fascinated with tarot, but I find it difficult to read and interpret the court cards. However, I do find the way the author describe and her insights of these cards to be helpful and interesting as they offer unique perspectives while being informative.
This was a rather new and fresh take on working with and interpreting Tarot Cards.
The first time I 'laid my Eyes upon' the Cover, it gave in combination with the Title to me the feeling of old friends meeting over a cup of Tea, and I thought it fitting.
The Author laid bare a journey she went through with her Cards. Her Tarot Tuesday would reveal to her AND us, the reader, what may lie ahead.
She also explained the meaning of each Card with the REVERSED meanings, too.
An absolute Plus in my Book, tbh.
For me a nice 4 🌟 Rating.
I love books like this, ones you can read straight through, at whim, or look up specific cards. I have recently gotten back into tarot, after a many decades break, and while I know the cards through and through, I love getting new insights. THat is the gift of tarot. There are so many different ways we can look at the cards. When something really resonates, I write it down. I lost track of how many notes I jotted from this book. The writing is superb - warm, friendly, knowledgeable but relaxed. I was happy to find out that she has published other works. Nothing I love more than finding a new author with a back catalog.
This was a very informative read and great introduction to tarot it helped me to learn the cards a bit more
I was approved for the book and in the same week it was archived so I was not able to download it. I did however grab a copy and I really love it! The author teaches us not to adhere to strict rigid meanings of the cards via interpretations, but how to personally connect with each card more deeply...thus providing us with deeper meanings through our readings. This is an invaluable resource to anyone who is interested in reading tarot or someone who is beginning.
This book re-inspired me to go back to my daily card pulls. Thank you so much for the chance to read it.
This book was an excellent addition to others I have collected regarding life's insights, mysticism, and magic. It was well done. Maria DeBlassie did an excellent job of sharing her descriptions and insights as well as the lovely poems focused on each card. Tarot is read with a certain person's depth and experience and is a constant source of learning and sharing with others. It is a door into the energy that the earth gives us and Maria DeBlassie has shared her gift with us.
"Conversations with the Tarot" by Maria DeBlassie is a captivating journey into the enigmatic world of tarot, providing an awsome experience for beginners.
Despite my limited knowledge of tarot, I found this book to be an invaluable resource that deepened my understanding of each card and its significance. The inclusion of short poems to accompany each card adds a layer of depth and beauty to the book.
This is a really great book for people who are curious about the Tarot, or just starting the journey. Also for people who like to write.
It was relatable to me, since I am interested in Tarot just for self-discovery purposes, and I'm not interested in reading for other people. Reading about her experience reassured me in my choice. I also loved the idea of Tarot Tuesdays, and combining the card readings with creative writing.
I got a lot of inspiration from this book. Thank you to the author and NetGalley for allowing me to find this gem.
Loved this book. It’s super actionable and easy to follow. I love how “real” the author is with her description of the cards as well as how readable and approachable she sounds. No, there were a lot of typos, but then I figured that might be the case. I hope they got fixed before publication.
