This was a sweet but serious book about what you can do when you become president. Our hero in the story uses her position to help people by communicating and treating people with respect and kindness. The tone is so upbeat and the pictures are gorgeous! Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
This was a sweet read for children. It felt very age appropriate and helpful for children navigating the presidential election, as well as to inspire children to think about working in politics. I loved the pictures and the words. This is an excellent children’s book!
I love the energy from this story! I can read it to my kids and feel the empowerment radiating in them and on each page. I am so glad it has a companion activity book to help foster the idea of reaching for your dreams as president. This is perfect for the 2024 election cycle even though female representation is lacking in the candidates on both isles, it does not have to lack in the hearts and imaginations of children around the country! Beautiful story and looking forward to reading more from her book series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how it teaches young girls that they can grow up to become anything -- even a president. I thought the story was easy to follow and I also enjoyed the illustrations. I Highly recommend this book for librarians, parents, and teachers to purchase for their collection.

Inspiring children’s book with great lessons on what makes a good leader and building hope for our future. The illustrations paired perfectly with this read.
This was such a precious beautifully illustrated book about the important roles and assignments you take on as a president.
I loved that the gender was reversed because it opens up curiosity to dream. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
It was clear but simple. Can you imagine if we had a president who really thought, planned, and acted like that?! A great children’s book with a promise of hope.
This is a wonderful introduction for children regarding what the responsibilities of a President should be towards his or her constituents and fellow citizens.
The most important aspects of leadership are held up to indicate what the qualities of a good president might be. And given the damage that the Trump era has done to constitutional values and democratic norms in the United States, this is an important little book for children to read.
The icing on the cake is the diversity element which is handled well, with really nice accompanying illustrations. Highly recommended.

📚 MY REVIEW:
What an absolutely perfect children's book! I requested this advanced reader's copy to see if it might be something I could share with my niece and nephew... And I certainly will be doing just that!
This book's theme is centered on empowerment, breaking barriers, and allowing little girls and children to envision themselves in a big, world-changing position, like the President of the United States. Not only does the book open a child's eyes to see herself in this role, but it helps to teach children the traits of a good leader -- like hope, fairness, equal representation, honesty, solving problems, listening, and having good communication.
The book's style is simple, so it's an easy read at bedtime for young children. Its sentences also leave plenty of room for discussions, to share more personal stories between parents and children. The illustrations are beautifully done and are fun to look at too.
I would highly recommend this book to ANYONE with young children who are curious, who have big dreams, or who need a reminder that the sky is the limit when it comes to their dreams for their futures.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dr. Samantha Pillay for this copy in exchange for my honest review!
We love this book! My three year old daughter wanted to read it again! The illustrations were great and I felt like all of the bases are covered as to what would make a good president
I absolutely loved this book. Not only is it teaching young girls that a woman WILL be president one day, it's also reinforcing the type of country that our children deserve. The illustrations are vibrant and attractive for children and the messaging is spot on!
This was such a powerful yet sweet book. The illustrations, the different scenes and details. Beautifully done.
I loved how not only did this book talk about the good qualities a leader should have, but it also showed all of the different types of people and concerns people have. This book shows that you can be anything you desire but that you can do it all with good character and being mindful of the needs of everyone else.
This is a gift I would give to all my nieces.
I volunteered to read a copy of this ARC through NetGalley.
You had me at "When"! Positively written and beautifully illustrated. When she becomes president, she will listen, be honest, fair, she believes in freedom, opportunities, safety, courage, world peace, gives hope and cares about the environment. I would definitely add this book to my child's library collection.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this awesome ARC for my honest review. #WITP, #NetGalley

Without a doubt, children will absolutely love "When I'm the President." It's a standout addition to children's literature, offering a compelling blend of inclusivity, inspiration, and visual appeal that will resonate with young readers for years to come. Whether read aloud in classrooms or enjoyed at home, this book is sure to spark important conversations about leadership, diversity, and the power of imagination – all while delighting and enchanting its young audience.
I loved this book. As a boy mom its my responsibility to raise my son right and I think this book portrays the changes in society and that women can do anything. I would love to purchase this for my son and read it to him soon!
When I’m the President is an essential read for young girls and anyone invested in nurturing leadership qualities from an early age. It’s a call to action, urging us to invest in a future where every girl can confidently say, “When I’m the President.”
I love the message in When I'm the President. It shows that it is possible for a girl to grow up to be President and also gives good leadership qualities a person of leadership should have. The illustrations are very colorful and vibrant and draw your eyes around the page. Girls need more books like this to see they can be anything they want to be.
Amazing!!!! The story is simple enough to captivate kids this age but conveys such an important message - and the illustrations are top-tier. The way the phrases are structured ('When I'm the President...") really help the child with visualising what it's like to be a great leader. Very important in today's world.
This book presents an ideal of what political leaders ought to be in the sense that leading honestly from the front is the way to do it. Very well done!
"Only 26.5% of parliamentarians are women worldwide."
"Believe you can, and you're halfway there." Theodore Roosevelt as quoted in this book
The illustrations by Remesh Ram are clear, imaginative, colorful, and informative.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from the author via NetGalley. Thank you!

I received an electronic ARC from Samantha Pillay through NetGalley.
Part of her Inspirational Careers for Kids series.
Readers see a young woman talk about what she will do when she is the United States President. They will connect with her messages of inclusion, peace and support. The text is simple to follow and elementary level readers will be able to read to themselves or with others. The illustrations capture the ideas and flesh out the text. Terrific for a family read aloud to encourage children to dream and think of ways to be part of community.
Its never to late for dreams. Children like to dream about what they want to be when they growup. They always say they want to be a doctor or president of the US, fireman, policeman and the list goes on and on. Its great for kids to have.dreams. this book just talks about that beautifully! Its a great read and I have a good feeling the children will love this book. Read rebook to the kids and see what kind of discussion will happen. Kids love that. Its a great way to get your child to discuss such topics.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review
This is a cute children's book that tackles what a good politician works towards during their career. I like that it provides all the ways that a president can provide for the country without making anything one-sided and political. I also enjoy the cuteness of the illustrations and I know that children will love reading this one.
Thank you to Author Samantha Pillay for reaching out and inviting me to read her latest Inspirational Careers for Kids Picture Book on NetGalley.

My favorite of the four book series of which I've read two. I absolutely loved that everything being taught can be done whether you are President or not. The story can easily be read aloud.
The illustrations are lovely. They warrant a look by themselves. I read the book, then flipped happily through enjoying each picture. The color palette is warm and inviting.
I would gift this to a teacher, young person, nursery, and or a Sunday School class.
This is an idealist book about what a president should do. The illustrations are eye catching and the sentiments are very positive. The book would be a sold conversation starter for preschool-aged students. It will be a good addition to both preschool and home libraries. I thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was a great, age appropriate book about all of the positive things a woman can do as President. I love the idea of the entire series for teaching children to strive for their dreams no matter how big and to do them with integrity. Great book and great illustrations!
"When I'm the President," the fourth installment in the Inspirational Careers for Kids picture book series, is a vibrant and impactful read that transcends the boundaries of traditional children's literature. Authored by Samantha Pillay, this book serves as a powerful catalyst for change, meticulously designed to dismantle barriers and foster a belief in the limitless potential of leadership among young girls. With a clear focus on inspiring future leaders, Pillay's narrative is interwoven with affirmations that encourage readers to envision themselves in roles of significant influence, particularly in politics and public service.
One of the book's most commendable features is its beautiful and diverse illustrations, which not only capture the imagination but also reflect the world's rich tapestry of cultures and communities. These illustrations play a critical role in reinforcing the book's message of inclusivity and representation, making it evident that leadership is attainable for every girl, regardless of her background.
"When I'm the President" goes beyond simple storytelling by embedding essential leadership qualities within its pages, making it a meaningful resource for instilling resilience, empathy, and the drive to effect positive change. This book is not merely a narrative but a series of purposeful affirmations that act as a beacon for young minds, guiding them towards a future where dreams are not just dreams but achievable realities.
This book is highly recommended for parents, educators, and mentors looking to inspire young girls to break through the glass ceiling and see themselves as future leaders. It's particularly suited for readers in the middle grade category, who are at a pivotal age for forming their perceptions of themselves and their potential roles in society.
"When I'm the President" is more than a book; it's an investment in a future where every girl believes she can lead and shape the world, making it an essential addition to every young reader's library.
This book was amazing! I loved the author's writing. It was an amazing storyline that I got to follow. The characters were developed in such a natural way. I would love to read this to my students and my family members.
Would absolutely recommend to all, especially those with littles!
This is the first I've seen of this series but it's definitely one I'm going to look into ordering for my library. A lot of kids books are written as informational, it's about the specific job that the book covers. With this book, it seemed inspirational, not only could it inspire kids to really think about themselves in this role, but it also could lead them to take personal ownership over the ideas that are discussed in the book and do what they can to enact them. I absolutely loved the full color illustrations. With such simple text you could use it as a read-aloud with younger kids, with older kids it could be used as a jumping off point for discussion and/or essay writing.
This is an inspiring children's book. It is short, descriptive and colourful. I love the female character and her aspirations. Thank you, Netgalley for sharing this book with me. My girls liked it
This book has a great way for showing girls that they can be anything! Full of optimism, I will definitely be reading this book to my daughter. After I read the book, I sent the title of the entire series to our Children's Librarian so she can order them for the collection. A must read!
