Description
This is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth,
This is the way we brush our teeth, early in the morning.
See the dogs brushing their teeth, getting dressed, going to school, eating lunch, going swimming, and much more before the day is done and it's time for bed.
This book's charming artwork, by talented illustrator Jade Huang, is rich with detail as it creates a whole town of dogs going about their days.
Ending as night falls over dogtown and the dogs are bathed and in bed, this book's lilting rhymes make it perfect for a pre-bedtime read.

I had so much fun seeing how the many things we do each day are done in Dogtown!
The illustrations by the Jade Huang are clear, imaginative, colorful, and meaningful, and FUN.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library.

This sweet little book does a great job describing the daily to-do’s to which all kids can relate and it’s even more interesting with the cast of dogs. The artwork, however, really brings to story to life. It’s fun, eye-catching, and vibrant. While the story, in the form of a sing-a-long, will definitely entertain children, I would recommend this book for the artwork alone. It will be a lovely gift.
This is the Way is filled with adorable and charming Richard Scarry-esque illustrations of a busy town filled with dogs of all shapes and sizes. The repetition and use if a familiar song to tell the story is perfect for emerging readers or a bedtime read aloud. The illustrations are so lovely and there are endless aspects to point out and discuss. I would read this aloud with students or at home with my nephew to discuss routines and what we have planned for the day. It's a great starting point for discussing the passage of time and the concept of first, next, last.
This was a wonderful children’s book! The illustrations are beautiful and fun. The book follows a pup and its routine throughout the day which I think would be great for children. It is also follows rhymes which make the book fun!
Thank you NetGalley and Ya-Ling Huang for the ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book for free in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.
Reading this book brought back memories of the Mulberry Bush song that I learned in elementary school. I'm probably going to have that song stuck in my head the next few days now :)
Overall, this was a very charming book, and one reason I picked it up to review is because I am a huge dog and animal lover. I. thought the illustrations were adorable. This book is super fun and silly and I can see it being popular with children of today! Highly recommend!

This was an adorable book. My four year old son really enjoyed the way the story was told. The book was funny and engaging. The illustrations were cute and had a touch of whimsy to them. I definitely recommend this book to families with young kids. I great book to keep your kiddo engaged.
I received an ARC of this children's book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really cute book. I enjoyed it a lot and so did the child I read it to!
A cute book that is set to Here We Go Around the Mulberry Bush where dogs go through their morning routine. This is a fun book that children definitely could get involved with because of the repetition of words on each page.
Beautiful pictures! The attention to details is great, because those details to each drawing are so cute. The story follows a day routine of a puppy as soon as he wakes up to when he does to bed. Such a cute book to read and sing along with, makes me want to open the book again just to reread multiple times. Easy for young kids/toddlers to follow along with.
This lovely book by Bologna Prize winner shows us a very imaginative busy Dogtown. There are so many different kinds of dogs and all the dogs in the book are so lovely and friendly. The illustration of the book is very very beautiful! So vivid! I can look at one single picture for a whole afternoon! Highly recommend!
I could hear the lyrics in the head! What a lovely little children’s book with beautiful illustrations. I can envision this as a nighttime read story, humming the littles to sleep.
Thank you Net Galley for the ARC.
"This is the Way in Dogtown" by Ya-Ling Huang is an adorable bedtime book for littles. We follow a school-aged pup through their day starting with brushing their teeth and ending with going to bed. The illustrations are colorful and have a lot going on. I really loved how the book is written to the tune of the nursery rhyme "all around the mulberry bush". I can't wait to share with my little one!
This is the Way in Dogtown is a children’s story book that follows the rhyme of this is the way.
This was a cute book! It had a nice rhyme that kids will enjoy. It also had some really cute illustrations. I loved the fun colors and the cute illustrations.
I think a lot of kids will enjoy this one! Thanks so much to netgalley and Quarto publishing for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I loved everything about this gorgeous picture book. The rhymes were light and fun, the pictures were bright and friendly, and it was so cheerful. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Adorable book about completing daily tasks. The illustrations are what brings the book to life. As a dog person, I absolutely love all of the pictures of different types of dogs. So cute. Will absolutely recommend this book to parents of small children.
The drawing style of Dogtown and its various pups brings the reader in! The story follows some daily routines of waking up, brushing teeth and other activities that follow in the day. Cleverly attached to “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush,” the song-song addition to the storyline will connect with parents, kids and other readers alike. Definitely a great addition to libraries!
This is the way in Dogtown is a great way to sing yourself and your toddler through your daily routine. It’s based off the nursery rhyme “This is the way…” (we brush our teeth…etc.). We have read this now several times and I must say we really like it. The illustrations are nice too and I can see myself picking this up as a physical copy soon.
5 stars from us for how engaging it is and how lovely the illustrations are and for making a daily routine more fun
It gave me nostalgia of the books that I read as a child in terms of the illustrations. Love all the tiny little details within the illustrations and the rhyming of the text.
Would be great for a child starting daycare/preschool/kindergarten and Special Education. .
When I pick this book to be read and reviewed for NetGalley, I didn't expect much. It has colorful cover with cute illustrations. But, once I opened the book, I could not stop singing (in my head) on particular song! The rhyme and how some phrases are repeated made me feel giddy like a kid. I wonder if my parents would read aloud this book together, I guess that would be a fun activity!
The premise is so simple. From early morning activity (brush our teeth, goes to school), afternoon (lunch), until night and go to bed. But the way this book is being presented is something that I could recommend to many people.
With adorable illustrations, this book is a repetitive way of helping kids see the value in routine.
This is an adaptation of The Wheels on the Bus and This is the Way We Do nursery rhymes. The artwork is incredible! The style is authentic, innovative and cute. The situations described in the images and words are relatable, easy-to-understand, diverse, and accessible. A very entertaining and educating addition to the children’s books, especially preschooler books library. Enjoyed the book plenty.
Loved this book, a simple concept executed very well - would be a great book to read at bedtime or learn about routine. Illustrations were fun, lively and bright.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
My son really enjoyed this sing along book about a day in dogtown! He'd wait for each new page and loved the little action words.
Cute pictures and the words flow well when singing the song. This will be well read over and over again!
This book will definitely be a hit for the pre-school/kindergarten set. The familiarity of the song, with the relatability of the daily life, and the cuteness of the dogs is a perfect recipe for an excellent classroom read-aloud.
This books was super cute and such a pleasure to read to my boys especially my nearly two year old. The illustrations are so so gorgeous.
I was singing the lines from the book all evening.
Will definitely be gifting this to my nephew's and getting a copy for our library
We woofed this book! 🐕
All puns aside, this book was super fun to read with my daughter.
The illustrations were beautiful. I love when books incorporate singing - it keeps things interesting for everyone involved!
This is an adorable picture book. It is easy and fun to read, with lots of different things to notice and talk about in the illustrations. Using the familiar tune, readers follow dogs throughout their day as they wake up, go to school, come home, and eventually go to bed. This would be a sweet book for any child - especially one who will soon be going to school or daycare for the first time.
In 'This is the Way in Dog Town,' young children learn what dogs in Dog Town do during the day. This book is set to the familiar melodious rhyme, 'Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush.' This familiar tune will help children follow the activities of a Dog family as they get dressed, brush their teeth, go to school, do their work, play a game, eat lunch, paint a picture, go swimming, go home, eat dinner, take a bath, and go to bed.
This book is both written and illustrated by Ya-Ling Huang. Using watercolor and colored pencils, Ya-Ling's hand-drawn illustrations have a transparent look with layers of color.
"This is the way we paint a picture, paint a picture, paint a picture.
This is the way we paint a picture, in the afternoon."
Splat,
splat,
splat!
This picture depicts various breeds of dogs sitting, lying, and standing around a room, including bulldogs, poodles, and collies. In the corner, the teacher wipes the sweat off of his forehead with a cloth. There is a dog painting a wall. Several dogs hold up pictures of their artwork while smiling. A dog is laughing while holding a paint brush and a can of spilled paint at his feet. A second group of dogs is creating art. Another dog sits with a palette of paint colors. The room is a complete mess! Nonetheless, the dogs are having a lot of fun.
It's such a cute book. Toddlers and preschoolers will love this book. You should check it out.
