Description

Why do people send flowers, and what secret meanings do they hold? This entertaining and addictive little photo-rich volume holds the answers.

Since opening NYC-based flower shop POPUPFLORIST, owner Kelsie Hayes has collected the most memorable notes customers have written to accompany an arrangement. These messages range from congratulatory to endearing, hilarious, condoling, sexy, apologetic, and even mysterious, and they offer a peek into the private lives of everyday people. This petite gift book collects 52 of these anonymous notecards, each paired with a flower arrangement inspired by the sender's words and designed with POPUPFLORIST's signature flair, including:
  • A structural trio of anthurium stems, which represent lust, paired with a sexy invitation.
  • A pair of bud vases for a family who just found out they're having twins: "Two little babes instead of one, double the joy and double the fun!"
  • A joyful bouquet of Gerber daisies alongside a congratulatory message for a friend who just got a nose job.
  • A bunch of mauve dahlias accompanied by an enigmatic apology note: “After the past 4 years, I won’t give up now. I do, and will always, love you. If you want to see me, I will be waiting at Radio City Music Hall, sitting in our seats for Billy Joel. I hope that I’m lucky enough to see you there.”

A glossary shares the meanings of different flowers to help you create your own arrangements for big life moments, from birthdays to births to breakups. A sweet gift alongside a vase of blooms, this charming hardcover is as inspiring as it is entertaining, and offers expert guidance on how to “say it with flowers” by arranging your own meaningful bouquets.

UNIQUE GIFT BOOK: This petite, artfully designed book is irresistible and so fun to flip through. Affordably priced, it makes a sweet add-on gift alongside a bouquet of blooms for a birthday, housewarming, Mother's Day, or other occasion.

GLIMPSE INTO OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES: The success of projects like PostSecret, Meet Cutes NYC, and Humans of New York demonstrates that people love peeking into each other’s lives. We all want to validate and feel less alone in our experiences, and having a window into people's intimate inner worlds makes us feel more human and more connected.

ON-TREND FLOWER BOOK: Kelsie Hayes is a popular, in-demand florist, having created bouquets for Gigi Hadid, Eva Chen, Gucci, Netflix, and more. She leads a diverse team of florists that creates stylish, on-trend bouquets. The book's photography beautifully showcases her appealing aesthetic and fresh approach to floral artwork.

Why am I crying?

These notes are a perfect depiction of the human experience alongside stunning floral arrangements.

This is an adorable book. A very original idea for a book, I loved loved reading the notes that people sent with the flowers they gave. I laughed out loud at many of them! And to think that the arrangement was inspired by the note, perfect!

This fun & whimsical, very inspirational book will always have a place on my shelf!

I adored this book! Say It with Flowers by Kelsie Hayes is spectacular!

I reviewed many flower arranging books before but never one like this before. Kelsie has included (anonymously of course) notes that were included with the flower arrangements that were delivered and some are so touching and others so funny I was laughing aloud. :)

One was sent to themselves and I'll never forget the note included it was uplifting to remember that they are worthy and that things will get better. Absolutely beautiful. The flowers accompanying the notes were as fitting as the twin bud vases with the announcements of twins and the drop kick note, hilarious and the arrangement sizzled that came with it.

I can't finish writing this review without saying the arrangement and the vessels are stunning! Spectacular and Kelsie Hayes has made an incredible book one which I will purchase and also that I think all florists should carry in their shops!

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read and review another winner from Chronicle Books!
An easy five stars!

I loved this book! I had a lump on my throat the entire time I was reading it. The simple, powerfully worded notes paired with beautiful arrangements made me want to weep. The shorter, cheekier notes paired with the beautiful arrangements ALSO made me want to weep, but for the beautiful levity humanity can give us. What an unexpected series of one-two punches! I can't wait to have a physical copy of this book to give to someone I love.

I really enjoyed browsing through this book of beautiful floral arrangements. I especially enjoyed the section at the end on what different types of flowers meant for various occasions. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

This book serves as much more than inspiration for flower arrangements, as it's a heartwarming look into the deeper meaning behind them. Reading the notes that accompanied the arrangements was very heartwarming - some made me laugh, others made me feel sentimental. The photographs are gorgeous, lush, and colorful. The glossary at the end detailing the meaning of different flowers was very informative and fun to study. I’ve never felt more inspired to make an arrangement for a loved one!

I enjoyed "Say It with Flowers" by Kelsie Hayes so much that I think I'll buy a physical copy for my coffee table when this is published! I love flowers and also like to consider myself an amateur florist. Between the gorgeous arrangements, the sometimes juicy, sometimes sad, and sometimes sweet personal notes, and the way the arrangements match the notes perfectly, I thoroughly enjoyed this. I also loved the tips for which flowers fit certain situations (and even anniversaries!). This book is a hit! I think I'll refer back in the future for the types of flowers to send for occasions.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

I love flowers. I agree with the author that it's one of the only things all humans can agree on. It's fascinating to me that the author's flower shop had the freedom to choose the bouquets how they see fit. You can really tell how seriously they took each note as a prompt with each bouquet. The information at the end of specific flowers for special occasions is really helpful. I will use this as a guide for my future bouquets (for others AND for myself)!

This is a sweet book for inspiration. It contains real notes from flower senders and the arrangements inspired by the notes. There are sweet notes, funny notes, and sad notes. Beautiful photos of gorgeous arrangements.

There is a section in the back of the book with ideas for flowers to send for special occasions. I especially liked the section on flowers for "An Apology." There are three flowers suggested and the rationale for all of them. Also included are suggestions in each section on how and when to send the flowers. But the author suggests listening to your gut when deciding what to send.

Special Occasions include:
An Anniversary
An Apology
A Birthday
A Break up (for your ex or for a friend going through a breakup)
Congratulations
Get Well
A Graduation
For the Hostess
A Housewarming
Marriage
Mother's Day
A New Baby
Sympathy
Thank you
Valentine's Day

As a flower farmer, I love flowers and I love this little book. The notes sent by mothers and daughters were my favorite. This is the perfect book for any room in the house (you'll want the actual hardcover and not the ebook). I can imagine having a bad day and reading any note and instant mood lift. Then going outside to pick a bouquet for myself cause as this book shows, flowers are for any occasion even the "just because" occasions.

Oh so pretty! I'd love this as a gift book or coffee table book. The short notes, followed by flower arrangements are a beautiful tribute to the power of words and flowers.

Whether you need inspiration for writing a note to someone who has touched your life - or want to browse modern floral trends for ideas - you will enjoy this compilation. It's a treasure trove of classic and current designs.

I received this DRC from NetGalley.

I think this is a fun idea for a book- modern flower arrangements alongside matching notes. I enjoyed looking at the various flowers and arrangements. Some of them looked messy to me, but I appreciated the variety in style. Some of the styling in the book - like some of the backgrounds and the fonts - I thought didn't look great, but that wasn't a big deal. At the end, some suggestions for flower usage for certain occasions were included, which was nice. I didn't know people sent break up flowers.

Such a fun book! It would be perfect for a coffee table book or conversation book. It has hilarious notes, heartwarming, heartbreaking and just plain sweet notes. I really enjoyed reading through these. And the pictures were beautiful!

Say It with Flowers is a lovely book. It would be great on a coffee table. The photographs of the arrangements and the arrangements themselves are stunning. It's a fun idea to pair the notes with the flowers. And there's a helpful section at the end with information the flowers associated with different months, occassions, etc.

Curated from NYC-based flower shop POPUPFLORIST, the book captures the diverse range of emotions and occasions for which people send flowers, from celebrations to apologies. One notable aspect of the book is its practicality; it includes a glossary at the back detailing which flowers are most appropriate for different life situations. This addition enhances the book's charm, giving readers guidance on how to create their own meaningful bouquets. With its blend of inspiration and practicality, "Say It With Flowers" serves as a delightful guide for expressing sentiments through the language of flowers, offering interesting bouquet ideas alongside valuable floral knowledge.

Overall, "Say It With Flowers" is a pleasant and insightful read, featuring a variety of interesting bouquets and providing readers with the tools to convey their emotions through floral arrangements.

Utterly delightful. A testament to the language of flowers because as I flipped through the pages (virtually) I could often guess the meaning behind the bouquets before reading the notes. This book has inspired me to think about how I can incorporate flowers into my life more often. The arrangements themselves are inventive, emotive, and downright gorgeous.

This is an interesting compilation of floral arrangements and notes to go with these for all occasions. I particularly enjoyed the section towards the end of the book that details what the flowers mean and what to send for each sentiment.

An absolute stunner, with gorgeous photos of flowers and notes that have been sent with them throughout the years. My fav: "The sex was so good the neighbors lit a cigarette after."

Pros: I am fascinated by the language of flowers. I was so interested to learn that the florist chose the flowers in all of these bouquets based on the words of the accompanying notes. I loved that so much can be said in simple notes--some had me cracking up (flowers for a new nose), others were empowering, and others were heartbreaking. I think my favorite bouquet was the one that features many types of sunflowers. The photography of the bouquets is gorgeous. I also loved seeing the vases used in the arrangements and want more information on sourcing them! I think this book would make a lovely gift . . . especially if given with flowers! I also appreciated that the book offers suggestions of flowers to give for different occasions because sometimes it is hard to find the words, so the flowers can speak for themselves.

Cons: None that I can think of!

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read this book.

This book is absolutely stunning. The photographs really do the bouquets justice. As an avid gardener and flower grower, I love looking at photos of flowers. However, the best thing about this book are the bouquets. Putting flowers together to create a beautiful bouquet is not my strong suit so I love all the inspiration and ideas this book has given me. I love the flower guide at the end, and find that very helpful. My only complaint is that, as a gardener, I would have loved a list of all of the flowers in each picture. This book is not only inspirational, it would also make a great display book or gift for a friend.

This book houses some of the most incredible bouquets I've ever seen. Aside from the gorgeous photographs, I am such a huge fan of the little notes sprinkled throughout the book. It would make an excellent coffee table book. But most importantly, I believe it will inspire you to try your hand at making some breathtaking bouquets.

This was a perfect short read that was refreshing. It was fascinating to look at the different notes and the flowers that the florist matched with it. Each arrangement was unique and fun and it shows the care that Kelsie has for her clients and business. I absolutely loved the glossary in the back which went through different occasions and the different corresponding flowers.

Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for sending me this ebook for review consideration.

What a fun book! The author shares lovely photos of floral bouquets and the notes that accompanied them. The notes are funny, sexy, heartfelt, and sincere. I felt a little guilty pleasure at reading all these private messages, almost like Post Secret but much more light-hearted and fun. Plus - flowers! At the end of the book the author also includes recommendations for flowers for different types of occasions - thank yous, apologies, celebrations, and (of course) Valentines Day. I read this in digital format and wish I had a physical copy in front of me. It's sure to be a lovely coffee table book. Would make a great gift.

Say It with Flowers is a quirky book with beautiful bouquets of flowers sent for any occasion. As someone who struggles with finding the best message to convey my feelings on a tiny florist notecard, I found myself composing my future messages to loved ones. This book would be a great gift for a friend or fun book to have on hand when you want to look at beautiful flowers. The author included some handy suggestions for the best flowers to send in different situations in the last section of the book.

Haven't you always wondered what that person is writing on the card for the flowers they're sending? Now you can! I love getting a look into REAL flowers that were sent and their messages to match! So fun!

"Notes from real people and the bouquets they inspired"....says it all. This book was adorable...I loved reading these notes and seeing these beautiful arrangements. What a cute idea. This is a book I'd buy. It was almost like seeing the notes was a little bit like prying, but also you felt such sweetness that they shared these with you, as the reader. My favorite was the note from a Mom to her child...sounded like something my mom would send me or I would send to my child one day. The back of the book showed what flowers were best for what occasion...that was really fun too.

Thank you Chronicle Books & Netgalley for making this book available as a Read Now book! I enjoyed this book. I thought it was interesting reading the notes people wrote and looking at the pictures of the flowers and I also liked that at the end of the book, it tells you what kind of flowers to send someone depending on what occasion it is.
