Thank you to NetGalley and the publiher for an advanced copy of "Chocolate Lover." All opinions are my own.
This wonderful book includes a collection of 60 recipes. The photos are wonderful and clear. Recipes include: cookies, brownies, cakes, tarts, sweet breads, pastries, and more, all featuring white, milk, semisweet, or dark chocolate. This will be a great addition to any bakers cookbook collection.
Pictures are drool worthy. Going through this for the pictures alone was worth it. But the recipes were delicious and easy enough for a novice to attempt. Really enjoyed this one!
Pros: The title of this book was all I needed to know I wanted to read it! I love to bake, specifically chocolate desserts, so this book dedicated to chocolate is one I need on my cookbook shelf. Almost all of the recipes appear to be accessible to cooks of all experience levels. I appreciated the photographs throughout because it is so helpful for me to have a guide of what something should look like when I am trying it for the first time.
Cons: The only con I can think of is that I was not eating something chocolate while reading this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read this cookbook!
4.5 stars!
If you love chocolate and you love to bake, this is the cookbook for you!
The author goes into depth about the various types of chocolates, baking temps, and multiple other descriptions to help baking easier.
Highly recommend for those bakers!
What an amazing cookbook. You can tell how much the author loves chocolate and baking with this well planned and organized cookbook. The book is arranged by type of item like pies, cookies, etc. Each recipe includes a screen-lickingly good photo of the finished recipe as well as clear, exact instructions and ingredient list. If you are a novice baker she includes an in-depth list of recommended equipment and ingredients at the beginning of the book. I love the little blurb that accompanies each recipe that may explain why the recipe was picked or why it’s important to the author.
I’d definitely purchase this cookbook for myself or a chocolate fan in my life. I will definitely be making either the yellow chocolate chip birthday cake or the strawberry white chocolate chantilly cake for my birthday this year!
**Thanks to the author and publisher for the e-ARC I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.**
This cookbook is a must for any chocolate lover or even if you just really like chocolate. This book has recipes for anything you can think of that uses chocolate. There is a listing of every kind of chocolate there is. I didn't know there was a caramelized white chocolate, or a black cocoa powder. These things really sparked an interest. I have seen and heard on cooking shows that you have to melt chocolate just right and they go into detail how to do it correctly so you won't waste any of the precious chocolate. Because you know they are saying that there could be a shortage. I learned how to bloom cocoa powder. I didn't know there was such a thing. You add cocoa powder to a hot liquid to activate the rich chocolate flavor. It keeps it from being metallic. They describe how to make ganache. This is all before you get to those lovely recipes. There's all kinds of cookie recipes, all kinds of bars, cakes both of the festive and snacking variety, pies, and donuts. There were some items I had never heard of before even on the baking competitions. I can't wait. to get started. You'll find me in the kitchen.
Chocolate lover focuses on recipes all about chocolate and its many different forms. There is information on all the different varieties and how to work with chocolate. The cookbook is extremely clear on the procedures of chocolate making and the pictures are heavenly. Such good recipes.
The sections are Sweet Treats, Cookies, Brownies and Bars, Snacking Cakes, Celebration Cakes, Pies, and Tarts, Morning Treats, Fried and Chilled & Bakery Favorites.
Each recipe has a little recipe blurb, the ingredients, the amount, directions, storing procures (if needed), and many had variations plus a picture of the treat.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. If you love chocolate, this book is for you. And the pictures are gorgeous. And the few recipes that I tired were very easy to follow.
This cookbook has everything to love!
The formatting is simple with clean, easy to read fonts. The book itself is informative. And while the recipes are all centered around chocolate, there’s a great variety in flavor profiles and textures, so it doesn’t get boring.
Also, can we talk about the photos that are included in this book?! They are stunning. The perfect mix of elegant and cozy.
Now, please excuse me while I shove some chocolate in my face.
So many options for chocolate lovers of all skill sets and abilities!
Love the first chapter of really accessible chocolate snacks. The snacking cake section made my mouth water so bad! And the pictures made it even worse 🤣
This is me. Chocolate lover. Chocolate runs in my veins.
If there was a better time to ditch my paleo diet, I'd do it for this book.
Chocolate Lover hits all the sweet spots I look for in a cookbook:
1. It's all about chocolate
2. Gorgeous photos of nearly every recipe
3. Unique twists on familiar recipes like raspberry goat cheese swirl blondies
4. I want to make everything
5. I want to read it all over again.
Some of the recipes are labor intensive, including the recipes in the Bakery Favorites section, but anything worth doing is worth all the steps.
The author provides a tutorial on the many kinds of chocolate, the utensils and cookware needed to begin your chocolate culinary journey.
There's also a super helpful Chocolate Basics 101 that includes how to melt chocolate, making ganache, caramelizing white chocolate, and much much more!
Even if you don't like chocolate (who are these people? I don't want to be friends with people who don't love chocolate), I think there's something for everyone here.
Now I just need to find someone to make all these treats for me!
Chocoholics everywhere will be rushing to pick up one of the most delightful chocolate cookbooks, Chocolate Lover: A Baking Book―Decadent Treats , by celebrated pastry chef and blogger (Studio Baked), Michelle Song. Since chocolate is one of the most important food groups to many of us, she has made cravings for it even stronger with her amazing recipes containing both dark, light, and white chocolate.
The recipes are written the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions to insure picture perfect success. The recipes are easy to follow, and both beginning and advanced cooks will have no trouble duplicating them. These are recipes most of us will dream about.
Song has included beautiful, professional photographs of most of the decadent baked goods. The recipes range from stand-by classics to unique baked goods; there is something for everyone here. Some of the recipes have a long list of ingredients and are time consuming; others are a bit faster to put together. The recipes actually work, though, and are well worth every minute spent in the kitchen.
All told, this cookbook is absolutely awesome! Anyone who bakes will form a queue that grows every time the book is opened. The cookbook belongs on the cookbook shelf of anyone who loves to bake and loves chocolate (which is most of us). It deserves more than five stars.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
Don't we all just love chocolate? There's a lot of information in the beginning of this book about different types of chocolate and techniques, but I'm guessing people interested in this book are going to go right to the recipes.
The very first one that caught my eye was a recipe for Brown Butter - Chocolate Crispy Treats. I make Rice Krispy Treats fairly often. When I make this recipe, I'm sure my family will flip with joy. There are two other varieties, Peanut Butter Chocolate Treats and Bourbon Chocolate Treats. Hmm. Which to make first?
There are recipes for cookies, brownies, snacking cakes, celebration cakes (Strawberry White Chocolate Chantilly Cake sound good?), pies and tarts, morning treats, fried and chilled, and bakery favorites.
So many good things to eat! And so many mouthwatering photos.
I am sorry to my family for all the weight we are about to gain because I want to make EVERYTHING in this cookbook!
The sections are well thought out considering the whole cookbook is about chocolate. There is a section in the beginning that explains the different types of chocolate and their uses. I enjoyed reading about special methods for chocolate like caramelizing it. (I didn't know you could do that?!)
The pictures are beyond gorgeous and there is enough in there that my visual learning style is quite satiated. The diversity is simply stunning too. Utilizing everything from white chocolate to dark in bark to pies. I am so excited to get into this!!!
This book is full of so many yummy recipes! I love that the book is full of photos for each recipe. The chocolate treats look so good. I loved the introduction to ingredients and tools needed at the beginning of the book. The recipes are easy to follow and include easy to obtain ingredients. I can’t wait to start baking these yummy treats! If you are a chocolate lover, you need this book!
While this cookbook is definitely not for beginners or people on a budget, it is definitely well done. I loved the wide variety of recipes offered and the note of substitutions. For someone like me who lives in a small town, substitutions are almost always necessary, especially for something like hazelnut flour. The book is also beautifully put together with all the great and helpful images.
This chocoholic swooned over the luscious photos and the 60 recipes of amazing baked chocolate treats. Like
Chocolate Frangipane Croissants and Peanut Pretzel Toffee Bark and Strawberry White Chocolate Chantilly Cake. Mouthwatering to look at with easy to follow recipes, this delicious cookbook would be a great gift for the chocolate lovers in your life!
Chocolate Lover

I only know of one person that doesn’t like chocolate…she shall remain nameless. Most people love chocolate and crave the decadent flavor of chocolate. There are 60 recipes in this book, and each will have your mouth watering. From cookies to brownies, to pastries, to cakes, etc. Chocolate Lover has it covered. This book is beautifully illustrated. Mother’s Day is just around the corner. This book will make a great gift plus maybe you will end up with a sweet treat for a thank you.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book for review.
YES! This book is absolutely amazing. I tend to really love cook books that focus on one ingredient, especially when they give you all of the ins-and-outs to really learn about that ingredient. Its a full learning experience, coupled with gorgeous photos and great recipes. Highly recommend this one for any Chocolate Lover!
A wonderful cookbook for chocolate lovers who are looking to level up their baking skills. This is definitely what I could consider an Intermediate level cookbook in that, even though it explains everything very well, it does seem to expect the reader knows their way around the kitchen already. I loved how Song explains the different kinds of chocolate - I had heard of black cocoa powder before but didn't know what it was until now nor that I should mix it with regular Dutch process cocoa if I don't want my bakes to be crumbly. I am also a fan of the tips and techniques explanations - when to use chips vs chopped chocolate, how to infuse heavy cream, and the caramelizing white chocolate techniques especially!
My favorite recipes are the malted hot cocoa mix (I love malted milkshakes so this was an easy one to add to my pantry), the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies made me want to immediately edit my own tried and true recipe, the double chocolate zuccini cake (I grow zuccini and am always looking for more uses for it), and the Irish cream ganache!
I was also surprised by many of the recipes as some of them, like the lemon cream tart, I would never have expected to find in a chocolate recipe book!
This book would make a fantastic addition to any kitchen library and a perfect gift for bakers and chocolate lovers.
Do you want some decadent recipes that contain chocolate - this is the book for you !
You will also learn how to make ganache, how to caramelize white chocolate and how to infuse heavy cream!
These recipes look delicious, a pro must have taken the photos! You will enjoy making strawberry matcha white chocolate bark, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, creamy chocolate cheesecake bars, and the lucious - looking Gateau Concorde with chocolate meringue and creme fraiche mousse!
As a chocoholic, I was in heaven with this book. I was super excited to find new treats to make with my obsession and I am happy to say I was not disappointed. I have at least 5 recipes that I want to try and make now! It has so much helpful information like the different types of chocolate, tips on the different ways to bake it, and it even let you know what other equipment you need for baking.
I love when cookbooks have recipes that include a picture of the finished dish. The instructions were clear and easy to understand especially if you have never baked before. The ingredients were easily visible. I also loved the little blurbs included some of the author’s memories about the dish. I will definitely purchase this when it is released.
Thank you to Michele Song and NetGalley for this e-ARC and for feeding my obsession.
Chocolate Lover by Michele Song is amazing! The pictures are full of rich, decadent, ooey, gooey chocolate and I could not get enough! Anything and everything you could ever want in chocolate is covered. The start of the book gives all the essential background on picking the right chocolate or cocoa, some tips, and tricks, including equipment, and then the fun begins. Traditional staples are included, but I was inspired by so many new ideas. Cookies, cakes, bars, white chocolate, dark chocolate, simple, complex, light and airy and dark and heavy. Every recipe has a picture to guide and inspire your own attempts.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
Pinching myself to make sure I haven't died and gone to chocolate heaven!
As I was skimming through the book I landed on something quick and simple, Anytime Chocolate Snaking Cake, OMG, it was moist and amazing. All recipes are easy to follow, with simple ingredients and an image of each recipe. I will be adding this book to my cookbook shelf. Heck, just run on over to Amazon's website and take a look at the images of this book and you'll see for yourself what surprise recipes await you.
The contents are as listed: Sweet treats, cookies, brownies and bars, snacking cakes, celebration cakes, pies and tarts, morning treats, fried and chilled, and bakery favorites. Not all recipes are chocolate so something for everyone in this book.
How can anyone say no to this book? The cover picture is drool-worthy and the title "Chocolate Lover" itself is good enough for me to want to read this book asap. And, this cookbook delivers everything I wanted in a cookbook! I can't wait to get my hands on this book when it's published and will probably gift it to dear friends and family members.
The author goes into depth about different types of chocolates, equipments, and ingredients and etc. for any level of bakers and the photos alone are worth reading. So beautiful and you can picture what the end result should look like which is a big plus for any bakers. I usually do not gravitate towards cookbooks that showcase one star ingredient, but this one is exceptional. There are recipes for cookies, bars, cakes for everyday and special occasions, pies, and donuts and I really appreciate it having a picture for each recipe. I also like the format and how well it's organized and written in a way the recipes look approachable and "not" intimidating. Truly a dream cookbook for any chocolate lovers and home bakers!
This cookbook is a must for anyone who loves cookbooks and I cannot recommend it enough!
* Thank you, NetGalley and Chronicle Books, for an advanced copy for review.
I devoured this book with my daughter who is admittedly the one with more interest in and knowledge of things to create in the kitchen. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this was something that taught both of us, kept both of our interest, without making either of us feel as though class was being put on hold while she caught the novices up.
The photography was stunning and as a chocolate lover, it would be worth my while to own it for that alone. I wouldn’t though because they merely showcase what she has inspired you to create as she has taught you all you need to know to recreate the recipes yourself. It is unlikely yours will turn out as picture perfect as hers at first but with such a kind textbook to guide you, I certainly won't mind going back to try it again until I do perfect it.
Thank you to Michele Song, Chronicle Books, and NetGalley to read this book and educate myself better about a subject dear to my heart (and thighs). All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you love baking with Chocolate and you love eating chocolate and you love beautiful pictures of chocolate, this is definitely the cookbook for you! So many wonderful recipes. Yum!😋 I thank Netgalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read and review this cookbook.
Beautiful cookbook full of great recipes and mouthwatering photos! There are 60 recipes including cookies, brownies, cakes, tarts, sweet breads, pastries, and more, all featuring white, milk, semisweet, or dark chocolate. I enjoyed reading through it and looking at the beautiful photos. So many recipes to try and they all look amazing! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I was able to test 4 recipes from this book and every one was a hit. This book is formatted very well and has gorgeous photography. Recipes were clear and the included pantry and equipment lists were thorough without being overwhelming.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
I love chocolate! This book really hits the spot.
The author begins by discussing the various types of chocolate and the products she uses for her recipes. She moves on to talking about the kitchen tools for success in baking her recipes.
Each recipe has a beautiful mouth watering picture accompanying it. It inspires one to try out the recipe! I love cookbooks with photos of each recipe.
For my baking style, this book is a bit too advanced. Each recipe has more ingredients and more steps to it than I usually undertake. However, I still would love to have a copy in my cookbook library, if only to take it out at times and marvel at the author’s creations in chocolate!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. The recipes look great and I can’t wait to try them! I love how there’s a picture to go with each recipe.
First off, as a chocoholic this book appealed to me from the outset. Once I began delving deeper in the book, I noticed that this book is phenomenal for those with a sweet tooth. I love the tips and tricks in the beginning, and even as an avid baker, I learned several new techniques. I loved how even though each review contained some type of chocolate, they were very diverse with the other ingredients such as the use of fruit. The photos are beautiful and really entice the reader to want to make the recipes. I like how some recipes include variations to change up the recipe, if desired. Overall, I think this is a great idea for a cookbook. It is well executed with delicious recipes and clear instructions. I would definitely recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth.
Chocolate Lover by Michele Song is a divine cookbook that would make any chocolate lover happy to own. The cookbook would make an excellent for cooks who love chocolate. I'll be asking my beloved to buy me this cookbook for Christmas I can't wait to try the Chocolate Chip Streusel Coffee Cake recipe as it looked like a delish breakfast treat. The White Chocolate Chip Confetti Cake looks beautiful and tasty and I can't wait to try the Triple Chocolate Cookies recipe too.
Review written after downloading a temporary book galley from NetGalley.
This is a beautifully put together guide through so many variations of chocolate treats. I love that this focuses on several types of chocolate in its many forms.
I appreciate the breakdown in the beginning of how to work chocolate in different ways. The techniques are clearly written and gave me insight into ways of working with chocolate that I haven't thought about doing before.
The photos in this book are beautiful, and I liked the variety of textures across the recipes. Some of the recipes visually look similar, but many of the recipes include ingredients which the reader can clearly see how they affect the end result of the treat.
This cook book is AMAZING! I am a huge chocolate lover and I can not wait to try out all these new and delicious sounding recipes!
I’ve never met a desert I didn’t love, yet I’m always secretly wishing all deserts are chocolate. This cookbook does not disappoint! There is a huge selection of cookies, bars, snack cakes, desserts — all featuring chocolate. White, milk, and my personal favourite, dark. There are some interesting flavor combinations like miso peanut butter blondies and cookies with tahini. Everything looks delicious!
As I am a true chocolate lover, this book appealed to me for its desserts and its breakfast goodies alike. I found several recipes which I will attempt in the near future — especially the brownies. I look forward to filling my summer with chocolate thanks to this decadent cookbook!
Thank you NetGalley, Chronicle Books, and Michele Song for this e-ARC Chocolate Lover. As a chocolate lover, the title appealed to me. After reading it, I know I will soon have it! It is well organized with beautiful photographs. There are 60 recipes for every kind of chocolate in every form that range from easy to difficult so everyone will be happy. And, it is informative on how to work with chocolate for delicious results.
This book was so cool! I, like a lot of other people, love chocolate and incorporating it into different recipes. The decadent recipes included in the author, Michele Song's, book sound so delicious and I definitely plan on making many of these recipes in the future. I also love the pictures that are included with this cookbook as they really bring the recipes to life. There are also really creative recipes included in the book such as Peanut Pretzel Toffee Bark, Cocoa Tahini Marble Cookies, and Chewy Mochi Brownies, all of which sound exquisite and delicious. I think a lot of people will enjoy this book and the recipes featured in it.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book!
Beautiful cookbook! The recipes are decadent, approachable, and unique. I love the creativity and hints of Eastern inspiration that are in some of the recipes - i.e., chewy mochi brownies, matcha, and Japanese milk bread. I can’t wait to try the banana chocolate chip scones. Definitely pre-ordering this book as it will be a staple go-to in my kitchen. Grateful to #NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you so much netgalley. My 17 year old son loves cooking with me and we had so much fun with this book! We made the chocolate chip cookies and I must say they were the best cookies we have ever made. So excited to try the rest of the recipes!
As soon as I finished flipping through the eARC of "Chocolate Love," I clicked over to Amazon to pre-order a hardcopy because I NEED this in my cookbook library. Michele Song has created an ode to Chocolate and I am here for it. I loved how she got a little science-y and nerdy about chocolate and baking to get us started, and I liked all of her recommendations and suggestions for tools, ingredients, and pantry. When doing a cookbook where the featured ingredient is brown, you run the risk of the photography looking pretty monotone. Not the case here! This was beautifully shot, working the full palate of browns and capturing so much beautiful texture and details. The recipes themselves are well organized and appear to be written in a way that should be easy to follow. Can't wait to try the Pumpkin Chocolate Babka, Peanut Butter Chocolate Buns, and the Chocolate Old Fashioned Doughnuts. Oh, and all the cookies look amazing, too!
Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the eARC, in exchange for this honest review.
This book!!! Wow!! So many stunning pictures to look at and delicious treats to make. I am a chocolate lover and am excited to try these recipes. There are tons that are new to me and I love that this book is not filled with the same old tired recipes.
Beautifully photographed book of enticing recipes for the chocolate lover.
Not an entry level book for a home chocolate lover, but with the basics under your belt, these recipes are certainly going to up your chocolate baking and candy making game.
Novel ingredients and interesting techniques create delicious treats, worry for gift giving, and or treats for your own home.
Each recipe has it's own page, meticulously laid out with concise measurements and detailed instructions. Many recipes come with instructions for variations. Equipment is detailed, as well as chocolate and sources are given.
This book would make a lovely gift for any chocolate lover.
Chocolate is my love language, and this cookbook may have well been made for me. Full of lusciously sinful recipes that will make you salivate just looking at the images, this cookbook guides you through the steps needed to turn out delectable creations. With well thought out processes and clear instructions you'll be whipping up chocolate masterpieces sure to impress anyone.
What a wonderful cookbook! I mean, who doesn't want more chocolate in their life. I loved the different combination of flavors that I never would have thought to try with chocolate! The pictures are nice and the instructions seem clear. There were definitely a few challenging recipes that I feel motivated to try after reading this cookbook.
Chocolate Lover is a wonderful resources for chocolate lovers. It is extremely detailed and comprehensive, and yet accessible and rich.
The organisation of list of ingredients on the left and the recipes and tips on the right is handy.
There are amazing photos that accompany the recipes - I did not find all of them perfect yet most of them were great. Yet the content is 100%.
The title is pretty self-explanatory for the audience this cookbook is appealing to, and the pictures and recipes live up to it! Definitely a book for anyone who wants double-chocolate anything in their desserts (and breakfast too)! Every recipe includes chocolate in some form, from white to dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and cacao nibs, and uses it in a variety of desserts, from ganache, whipped cream, bread, glaze, cake, and everything in between. It starts with background info of the different types of chocolates and their differences, the best ways to melt chocolate and some basic techniques that will be repeated in the recipes, and recurring ingredients and suggestions on brands to buy, as well as equipment.
The recipes are organized from beginner-friendly to advanced/time-consuming, and include mostly European/American based desserts with some Asian influences in a few. The recipes are mostly easy to understand, some just one page long and others four, though most of them are written with the expectation you have a stand mixer, so might not be the best if you’re relatively new to baking. Some are a bit unclear, like ice water (is it water as cold as ice or water with ice in it, because that would change how you do things). I feel like especially around the end, when they’re describing how to braid bread, it would have benefitted from a few more pictures to explain more clearly.
Thank you Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this wonderful book. This drool-worthy volume is truly a chocoholic’s delight! There is a lot of information in the beginning of the book about different types of chocolate, cocoa, sugar, and other ingredients and tools necessary to create chocolate masterpieces that follow. The rest of the book is broken down by types of treats (cookies, cakes, bars, etc) and each is accompanied my a mouthwatering photo. This book is a must have for any chocolate lover!
Just the title and the cover photo makes me salivate. I am a huge chocolate lover who tends to buy it in candy bar form or from a bakery. I am not an experienced baker by any means but this book has really helped me learn how to make delectable chocolate treats! In the first part of the book, the author gives great explanations about the types of chocolate (I learned a lot) as well as what to stock in your pantry, equipment, tools and there is a blurb explaining all the ingredients. Throughout are great recipes and photos. I did not realized King Arthur made a Malted Milk powder so I bought it and made the Salty Malty blondies - if you crave malted milk shakes like I do, this is the recipe for you! She also shares unique techniques on how create a shiny top on brownies (the key is how to dissolve the sugar). There are easy snack cakes, cookies and the recipe I want to try next is the Orange and Olive Oil Chocolate Cake! The explanations are so thorough it helped me through the baking process and gave me confidence. Recommended for all the chocolate lovers out there (would be a great gift too!)
Thank you to Netgalley and Chronicle Books for an ARC and I voluntarily left this review.
I liked the introduction to this book and the recipes all had pictures (a must for any cookbook). The recipes look delicious and I cannot wait to try a few in the next few weeks. The instructions were all clear and easy to read. I will definitely be purchasing this when it comes out.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the perfect love letter to chocolate.
As someone who loves chocolate, loves baking, and lovessss food styling and food photography, THIS BOOK was such a joy to read and experience.
The recipes are easy to follow, the photos are absolutely STUNNING and you can really tell how much the author loves chocolate through this book.
Recipes are renditions of classic all-time faves with some cool new combinations that'll blow you away.
This book is definitely one worth picking up, it'll be such a joy to flip through.
Thank you to Chronicle Books, Michele Song and NetGalley for giving me an Advanced Reader Copy of this wonderful cookbook.
I love chocolate, and I can't wait to try these delicious-looking recipes in this book! The pictures are gorgeous, and my family will be glad to taste-test these chocolate recipes!
I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
So many delicious looking recipes! I love that there’s pictures of pretty much all of them so I know what they look like and there’s at least one that I 100% know I’m gonna make (the peanut butter chocolate chip pie, a variation on one of my go-to bakes) and one that I would LOVE to attempt (the peanut butter chocolate buns).
Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the digital ARC in exchange for my review.
A chocolate manual
Ms. Song instructs on type, tools and technique in addition to the recipes. Clear detailed instructions with drool worthy illustrations make this cook book a winner.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
This was pretty much the most mouthwatering cookbook. The author put a lot of effort in breaking down how versatile chocolate is on its own and in use to enhance other flavors. She also made it really digestible for novice bakers with helpful tips and lists. I look forward to slowly baking my way through the entire cookbook, which is so rare.
A wonderful collection of delicious sounding (and looking) recipes for all chocolate lovers. The recipes are well organized, easy to follow and the pictures are done nicely so you can see how the food should look. I am definitely going to try some of these recipes out soon! I give this book 5 stars out of 5!
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review. The book will be published 9/17/2024.
Michele Song's love letter to chocolate serves as the perfect tone setter for the reader. As someone who also has chocolate as their love language, this reels me right in. Sometimes chocolate can feel like an overwhelming tool in baking and Song does a thorough job in explaining different usages and aspects of varying chocolate itself. It's like a pre-education element so that the baker feels more prepared and it's told in an accessible, welcoming fashion. 'Chocolate Lover' is filled with mouthwatering recipes with a perfect blend of classics and new twists on iconic favorites told through Song's encouraging voice. The visuals are thoroughly stunning as well as the layout being simple and appealing.
Chocolate Lover is exactly what you’d expect. So many simple recipes that can be whipped up quickly and with ease to satisfy that never escapable craving.
For those with allergies to eggs, this book includes many recipes that are eggless, which I appreciate for myself! Finally!
I received this DRC from NetGalley.
I am a fan of dark chocolate, and this book contains a wide variety of recipes with good photos of the finished items that look delicious. Also, I didn't know snack cakes were a thing people made, so that's fun. The book starts with a thorough overview of the different types of chocolate, cocoa powder, various other ingredients, and other helpful tips, which I found interesting. I haven't actually made any of the recipes, but I'm curious about the Espresso Chocolate Rye Sables and the Miso Peanut Butter Blondies.
Such a beautiful baking book for chocolate lovers everywhere. This was filled with tips and tricks and a great variety of recipes to add to your repertoire. I really loved the variations that came with certain treats and the pictures alongside each desert were stunning. Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced copy!
The pictures in this book are gorgeous and I am now craving so many different things. I want to try to the chocolate basque cheesecake and the chocolate malt cream pie the most. The short blurbs with the recipes are good storytelling, especially because they often note the branded product that inspired the recipe, like how the author talks about jello pudding cups in relation to the chocolate malt cream pie or ghirardelli brownies and their own brownie recipe recreating them. I like that there are metric measurements throughout in addition to the typical cup measurements. It makes it more likely that I'll actually bake if there's metric measurements haha.
This is a gorgeous chocolate book! The intro section has lots of chocolate specific info and how tos. There are 60 recipes in 9 chapters, so none of the chapters are very long: Sweet Treats, Cookies, Brownies and Bars, Snacking Cakes, Celebration Cakes, Pies and Tarts, Morning Treats, Fried and Chilled, and Bakery Favorites.
Every recipe has a mouth-watering color photo. Some of the recipes have more unique ingredients alongside the chocolate: things like rye flour, miso, tahini, black sesame. Others just sound incredibly delicious, or amp up a familiar recipe either by making a combo (Pumpkin Chocolate Babka), or adding chocolate to a beloved classic (Chocolate Frangipane Croissants).
It's been a while since I saw a chocolate cookbook I felt had unique ideas, so I'm very excited for this.
The title is perfect haha! I liked that this cookbook provided so many tips for success in the beginning before getting to recipes! However, I would consider this book for intermediate level bakers! If you're committed and really want to start from ground zero, then you will enjoy these recipes!
Michele Song created a beautiful book for you or the chocolate lover in your life.. I loved that the book started with a love letter to Chocolate. It then went on to school the reader on how to treat chocolate, pantry ingredients, different equipment needed and a lot more great information. Then the recipes started, the delicious photos popped up throughout and my mouth was watering.
I look forward to first making the Very Best Chocolate Chunk Cookies this weekend and then the ultimate Millionaire Pretzel Bars. I also know of a few people who will love this book as much as I do.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
This is a very dangerous book to flip through before lunch, LOL! Now I want some chocolate baked goodness!!
The cookbook is obviously a labor of love by someone who loves chocolate. :D (I imagine we'd get along great, haha.) I love that it not only includes photograph(s) for every. single. recipe (a rarity in cookbook-land, it seems like), but also some unique ingredients and flavor combinations. (I'm looking at you, pistachios, miso, matcha, buckwheat, and buttermilk. And no, those aren't all in one recipe, but spread across several!)
I also learned a few new things, such as how/why to "bloom" cocoa (to bring out flavors) and caramelize white chocolate! (I think caramelizing white chocolate would indeed make me like it better, haha.)
I'm especially excited to try the crispy chocolate buttermilk waffles and the chocolate stout rye Bundt. (Insert token reference to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" here.)
A fantastic and inspiring collection of recipes, photos, tips, and tricks that will be an invaluable resource to any baker, from amateur to pro.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This book is a chocolate lovers paradise. Or diabetes in a book, but still. I live all the different types of recipes and the spins that they put on your every day recipes to change them up. I canny wait to get my hands on the physical copy
As an avid (amateur) baker, I am always looking for new recipes to bake and Chocolate Lover by Michele Song is packed full of delicious, chocolatey, unique and easy to follow recipes! The majority of my baking is enjoyed by my husband and 3 kids, and these recipes are, as I said before, unique but still pair well to a child's palate. I didn't have to worry about someone not liking what I made.
The beginning of the book was also filled with tips and tricks, and a guide to learn more about chocolate and all its varieties. This is especially helpful as I hope to pass down my baking love to my children and teaching them while we make yummy treats is a major plus.
I can't wait to purchase this cookbook for my collection so I can continue to make the recipes I didn't get a chance to yet!
Thank you Netgally, Michele Song and Chronicle Books for the ARC!!
Holy moly, if you like chocolate has Michele Song written a cookbook for you! This well-designed book begins with a detailed explanation of the various types of chocolates as well as how to work with them. Each recipe was paired with a delectable picture and clear directions. The beauty of the recipes throughout Song’s book is that there are some takes on familiar items. Under the heading of sweet treats, there are goodies such as Strawberry Matcha White Chocolate Bark and Malted Hot Chocolate. Under brownies and bars, Ultimate Millionaire Pretzel Bars have a twist by using a miso caramel layer for an extra depth of flavor. Each recipe was a delight to read and a sight to see. This is one to go back to again and again for the surprises inside.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
