Wow, what a great book! It was so engaging and kept me turning pages until the very end! I highly recommend it to fellow readers!

"Those We Do Not See" has a synopsis that does the book justice. You know when you begin that the protagonist is in for a dark journey downward, and Gallion draws you in with tenderness for her characters even at their worst moments. The story is at times hard to read, but compels you to finish and hope for redemption. Its gritty and raw tone reminded me "Rabbit Hole" by Kate Brody. Wow! What a fantastic book.

Those We Do Not See follows the life of Brit who is involved in a fatal car crash.

What follows is the spiralling of Brit's life from having a home, partner and job to having nothing.

Incredibly well written and difficult to put down!

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Unbelievable how life can change in a second - Brittany steps out to meet her lover and as they are driving she gets in an accident killing a woman, Her husband kicks her out- drains the bank account they share. She struggles with her guilt and ends up loosing her job and living in the streets with the people no one sees. It’s unreal all the obstacles she must overcome to get a bank account, rent an apartment etc— Can she pull herself out of this mess and begin again? This was a great read!

Those We Do Not See by Angie Gallion is a gut-wrenching but heartfelt story. Britany "Brit" Adams begins a rapid downward spiral after she’s involved in an accident that results in a fatality. Within weeks, she loses her home, job, and dignity. Struggling with guilt and living on the streets, she is plunged into a gritty world filled with danger and despair.

While investigating the crash, Officer Cliff Rathborn never dreamed of being the last person to speak to Brits before a missing person report was filed. While assisting in the search for Britany, Cliff realizes he has not dealt with his own mother’s disappearance when he was a child.

The overarching message in this story was not being seen, and it really is true. People down on their luck, homeless, etc., are truly not seen. As Brit stated, a person cannot get a job if they don't have an address, and they can't open a bank account.

The story is about the personal growth of the main characters, Brit and Officer Rathborn, as both have experienced trauma and tragedy. The story explores various relationships and the effects of mental illness and addiction, as well as needing a break and someone to see the other person.

Those We Do Not See is a powerful story that reminds us to see each other, not judge what anyone is going through, and to treat others as we would want to be treated.

I thought the ending was quite powerful, and I highly recommend reading this book.

A spiraling, gritty, heartbreaking read.

“Those We Do Not See” follows the life of Brit over the best part of a year after she’s involved in a car accident and her life just descends further and further into the shadows. We spend the story with Brit and the investigation police officer Cliff in their smallish town and how so many of us stand on the precipice of calamity.

A well written, immensely readable story.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it! I enjoyed this book so much and read it in a day! The story follows the life of Britt and how one mistake can change your whole life. I loved the main character and her determination to keep going when nothing ever seemed to go her way. I am so looking forward to reading more by this author and I highly recommend this book.

What a gut-wrenching and humbling read. Those We Do Not See follows 26 year-old Britany Adams who finds herself homeless after a tragic chain of events; and Officer Cliff Rathborn who struggles with his own internal demons and is the last person to see Brit alive before her mother reports her as missing.

The author effectively weaves multiple stories into a staggering narrative that reminds us all that we may be one event or bad decision away from a new unfortunate life.

The power of this story snuck up on me. At first I couldn’t believe Brit’s bad luck. I felt myself getting upset as the events unfolded. The slippery slope Brit slides down is reminiscent of so many circumstances in life. It’s a reminder that one decision, one chain of events can derail the trajectory of one’s life. The cast of characters played a significant role in the development and connection to each facet of the story.

I could not put this book down. I felt a deep connection to the characters and their circumstances. This story evoked thoughts about my own reactions to people down on their luck and/or with addiction and mental health problems. It’s easy to walk by and not see them but they each have a story and some may be looking for a way out. The circuitous journey to a job or housing after falling down this slippery slope is cumbersome at best and depicted vividly.

One event at the final portion of the story felt jammed in. While I understand the author’s intent in adding another reality of the vulnerabilities of unhoused young women, and did overall like the ending, this particular development felt rushed.

Definitely pick this well written book up to be reminded of those we do not see and the humanitarianism we all hope to find. *Release date: 6/11/24*

This story shows the personal growth that both Brit and Cliff go through with their traumas and tragedy.
I couldn’t believe the the way that Brit journey had from having everything to having nothing and starting from scratch again. I had times that I did have sympathy for her with the events that kept happening. It’s a reminder that one decision or one chain of events can change the course if your life forever. I was able to read this book in one sitting as I just wanted to keep reading for a nice way for Brits life to change.

I will say however that the ending did feel slightly rushed just to get all the points that haven’t been covered to be said but it did seem like a nice little conclusive ending for Brit.

You could be just one bad event, decision or mistake away from a completely different life. That is the moral of this book which tells the story of 26 year old Brit Adams and Officer Cliff Rathborn. A tragic chain of events results in Brit becoming homeless. Officer Rathborn is the last person to see Brit alive before she is reported as missing.

I felt a connection to both Brit and Cliff. The author does a good job of making both characters three dimensional and likeable. I wanted to know what would happen to both. The author also reminded me how easy it is not to see those who have ended up homeless and that we shouldn't judge as we don't know how they ended up there. It was also a good reminder of the vicious cycle that those who are homeless become involved in - no address makes it difficult to get a job or a bank account but you need a job to pay rent and so the cycle continues.

Towards the end of the story, the author tried to make a further point about the perils of homelessness and young women. This part felt rushed and under developed compared to the rest of the story. I think this could have been developed in a much better way and also in a less obvious way, as I could tell where this storyline was heading.

Despite this, I still enjoyed the book and would read more by this author.

In this gripping novel by Angie Gallion we follow the life of Brit. In one day her young life is turned upside down. A tragic accident occurs in which Officer Cliff Rathborn is in charge of. The accident takes a toll on Brit and suddenly she becomes homeless and then unemployed. She has to learn how to deal with a number of circumstances in her newly changed life that force her to see the world from a different view. When Brit goes missing, Officer Rathborn who is also working through his own struggles, is on the case and is determined to find her. In his search to bring Brit back home to her mother, it brings up memories and questions of his own mother’s disappearance years ago. Will he be able to find Brit before it’s too late? In finding her, will he be able to come to terms with the disappearance of his own mother in the same town all those years ago? Full of twists and turns this is one book you won’t be able to put down!

Those We Do Not See by Angie Gallion was an excellent read from start to finish and kept me hooked from the beginning. I found it hard to put it down as I wanted to know what happens next.

This was a heart breaking story and Where would you start and who would you turn too if this ever happened to you? I could not ever imagine. Angie the author wrote this book so beautifully and it was excellent book. A heartbreaking read.

This is a quick read and kept me hooked the whole time, the flow of the story and characters development was perfect. I felt a connection to the character Britany where one bad thing in your life can send you down a path you never thought you be. I almost felt like she walked in someone else shoe on another life.

Britany's life starts to spiral after an accident that leave one person dead, within a week she loses her home, job and what is left of her dignity. Cliff the investigating officer on the car accident never thought he would be the last person to speak to Britany before she goes missing. While assisting in the search of Britany he starts to look into his own mother who disappeared when he was a child. In order to find Britany, he has to look into the faces of those that most people refuse to see. In the meantime, Britany is in full survival mode can she stay alive to be found?
