Description
With a cast of characters as quirky as the artwork by author and illustrator Gabe Jensen, Nocturnal Nico follows the title character as he resists bedtime, mirroring the nocturnal creatures outside in the moonlight
Nico doesn’t want to sleep—he must be nocturnal! Like the owl in the tree, Nico is alert. Like the bat flying in the night, Nico isn’t afraid of the dark—or is he? With comic-like illustrations and obscure nocturnal animals throughout, this picture book will help your little night owl get to bed. Hopefully!
Includes one page of backmatter explaining the difference between nocturnal and diurnal animals and the adaptations that allow them to thrive at night.

You may think this is for kids, but adults too will learn about the world when the sun goes down and the creatures of the dark start their day! Creative book for all audiences. Packed full of knowledge and quick facts backed by a sweet narrative.
Such a cute boo! You get to learn all about nocturnal creatures through precious and fun illustrations! I can’t wait to share this read with my kiddo! Toddler parent approved 100% 💖
The book was beautifully written. The author made careful word choices that were very impactful. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.
I could see this book being a larger board book. The art is different and seemingly hand drawn, which is a nice change from computer generated looking art. I think a lot of kids and parents can relate to kids who have a hard time sleeping and would enjoy the comparison and learning about nocturnal vs. diurnal animals. Good topic that we don't see often!
"Nocturnal Nico" is a great book to display the differing traits and adaptations between organisms that are diurnal and nocturnal. I used to work at a zoo that had a large collection of nocturnal animals, and sharing education on those species was always my favorite. The book did an excellent job at detailing what makes nocturnal creatures suited to their nighttime environments, like large, wide eyes, sensitive hearing and keen senses of smell. This book would be great for any youngster with a love of wildlife.
Thank you to NetGalleyfor this e- copy of Nocturnal Nico by Gabe Jensen in exchange for a honest review. This is the perfect bedtime story about a boy named Nico who wants to stay up all night like his favorite night time creatures who are described in the book until he gets hungry and encounters another nocturnal inhabitant of the house. . Great family read.
We loved the illustrations for this book and really enjoyed that it was both fun and educational! The little notes about which animals are nocturnal were great and it was quirky and funny, too.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I love seeing children’s books like this! Creative, educational and fun! And it definitely had heart too! Perfect to snuggle up and read together before bed.
This taught me a lot too about nocturnal and other animals. And it will teach kids in a fun way, about them and why it’s important to get a good night’s sleep.
