Description
"A book that feels like a warm hug from your best friend." -Emily Henry, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of Funny Story
From the beloved mother-daughter team who brought us What to Do When I'm Gone, a poignant, funny, heartfelt, and gorgeously illustrated guide to navigating the pain and complexity of getting dumped.
After Suzy Hopkins's husband of thirty years unexpectedly left her to pursue an old flame, her grief was so overwhelming that she thought her own heart might stop. How do you take the first step forward after losing such an integral part of your life?
In What to Do When You Get Dumped, the mother-daughter duo of Hopkins and her New Yorker–illustrator extraordinaire daughter Hallie Bateman offer an incisive, tender, appealingly illustrated guide to “unbreaking” your heart. Using a countdown from the moment you're dumped, the book offers humor and hope as it guides readers on the journey to find new meaning and purpose in a life that's yours alone.
Lighthearted, impactful, and deeply consoling, What to Do When You Get Dumped provides the wisdom to emerge from a breakup smarter, stronger, and with the unshakable knowledge that you are worthy of lasting love.

This book is a must for anyone going through a breakup. Through the author's honesty and the wonderful visuals, the reader feels less alone and alienated. I've already pre-purchased this for my library.
This work of illustrated nonfiction is a fantastically approachable guide for something that happens to everyone - a relationship ends when you still have feelings for the person. By counting down, day to day, it reminds those reading that things do get better, we do heal, and we can all find a way to pursue happiness without that person in the life we imagine for ourselves.
We give books to new moms and new couples and new babies. There are books for birthdays and graduations and other big celebrations, but I don't know that I've seen too many books for divorces. Divorce is just as big of a life change as any of the things I listed! Of course there are probably big, lengthy books with lots of information to unpack on how to navigate a divorce, but it seems like that's the last thing someone would want to do while they're going through that. BUT, this book was what I imagine would be the best warm hug you could receive during a divorce. It was informative, but light. It was funny but also serious and emotional at times. Plus, a good graphic novel for adults is always a must in my mind! And you can't beat Hallie Bateman illustrations and the mom/daughter duo is one of my faves! Will definitely be carrying this in my store!
