Description
“What does it mean to be human—or perhaps human 2.0?”
This question sets the stage for the thrilling journey that awaits in BITS, an action-packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. In a world where the lines between artificial intelligence and human sentience are blurred, we are forced to question what it truly means to be human.
We meet Clayton Rhodes, a seasoned FBI agent with a complicated past and a 25-year career under his belt. After a traumatic experience, Clayton is at a crossroads in his life. But when he is offered a chance to work with a renowned psychiatrist on an experimental project involving AI, he sees it as an opportunity to redeem himself and get back to active duty.
Tasked with teaching an AI entity the intricate art of undercover operations, Clayton hopes this opportunity will be his ticket back to active-duty status, a chance to exorcise the ghosts of his past and reclaim his life. However, what begins as a straightforward assignment spirals into a mind-bending odyssey.
Clayton’s journey into the world of AI shatters his expectations, disrupts his plans and overshadows his desires, leaving him to navigate a labyrinth that challenges his very perception of reality.
Long after the masterfully delivered dose of adrenaline fades, BITS leaves the reader with much to ponder.
If you enjoyed books like "Clear and Present Danger" and "The Matrix," you won't want to miss BITS. With its gripping story-line and thought-provoking themes of evolution and connection, this book will keep you captivated until the very end.

The cover reminded me of a prime video film advert, but the actual audio was good. I’m always on the look out for decent techno thrillers and grabbed this one once I saw it pop us on NetGalley. I liked the premise of the audio and that always makes or breaks a technothriller, this one was good. I’ve reccomend to the scifi girlies in my book club
Not a great fan of SF but have to admit that BITS didn’t just grab me, it gripped me by the throat and didn’t let go until the final lines of the last chapter.
Not that often I get to ponder what it is to be human; or what it is to be alive, but BITS will make you question your thoughts and beliefs.
It did mine….!
In a nutshell this novel is not just about what it is to be human and alive but what would happen if we could control and interfere with these premises.
It is a very brave Author that will take on life, death and artificial intelligence, but in my humble opinion C J Kichuk absolutely nails it.
BITS is a very well written novel and has the potential to be a best seller. Not sure if this is a first novel but whatever, i am looking forward to the follow up.
I was extremely lucky to get an ARC (audio version) from Netgalley via Victory editing. If you get the chance to read this novel then buy, borrow or sell a child to afford it, but whatever, read it.
If you do happen to get the audio book version then you are in for a treat……… well almost. The Irish accent is ….. well, it ranges from Welsh to Indian to the most northern Inuit. Quite the worst Irish accent ever but the rest of the audio book is spot on and most enjoyable.
Wow, what an exhilarating ride! From the very first page, 'Bits' seizes you with action and doesn’t let up until the very last moment. I listened to the audio version, and the pace was absolutely relentless, keeping me completely hooked as the story unfolded with each gripping scene.
The author’s narration adds a dynamic layer, making it easy to immerse yourself in the world he's crafted. However, while his storytelling is excellent, his attempts at different character accents don’t quite hit the mark. Though this isn't a major drawback, listeners who are particularly sensitive to accent work might find it slightly distracting at times.
Word of advice: do not start this book late at night—unless you're prepared for an all-nighter! Once you're in, there's no turning back. A thrilling, action-packed experience that’s an absolute must-read for any action fan!
Clayton Rhodes is an experienced FBI Agent who is asked to work on an AI project. This work will include teaching AI the art of unde4cover operations. This is an excellent, fas5 paced novel with a unique plot line.
Excellent writing and narration by the author (I listened to the audiobook). Great, strong characters, AI theories and applications. So much going on over Clayton’s life and career. Cannot recommend this book highly enough.
