Advance Praise
"The book "Responsive Parenting for School-Age Children - Mastering Discipline and Creating a Harmonious Home" by Morgan Ramsey and Brian Teinert is a true piece of art for any parent! As parents, we struggle, doubt, and react in ways we're not always proud of and continuously look for ways to improve our education or catch up with the changing behaviors of our little ones. This book outlines, in a clear and supportive tone, the 'why, what, and how' of raising children. By describing methods and giving action steps on how to build a harmonious household, this book delivers a baseline for a constructive and positive collaboration between adults and children. The guiding principle is a 'connection before correction' view based on responsive communication, routines, logical consequences, and family meetings. My recommendation is to have this book translated into other languages to share best practices across the world. Thanks for sharing!" -Madelon Wehrens, president of ISB Parents Association

Responsive Parenting for School-Age Children is a practical and relatable guide that takes the stress out of everyday parenting challenges. From sibling fights to forgotten schoolwork, it offers smart strategies and real-life examples that actually feel doable. What I loved most was the section on positive language—it made me realize how small changes in the way I talk to my kids could lead to smoother mornings and fewer power struggles. This book felt like a reassuring friend giving me the advice I needed!
Parenting isn’t for the faint of heart—especially when you’re dealing with missing shoes and last-minute school projects! But Responsive Parenting for School-Age Children? Total game-changer. The tips on breaking out of power struggles were chef’s kiss—I’ve already used a few on my kids, and wow, it works! Plus, the real-life stories sprinkled throughout the book made it feel like I wasn’t alone in the chaos. If you want to swap yelling matches for peace (most days, anyway), you need this book! 🧺🎒📚
This book couldn't have come at a better time. After struggling with two children under ten who were growing increasingly argumentative and constantly fighting with each other, this book delivered legit advice on responsive parenting. The scenarios in the book honestly made me feel like this book was written about my kids (or at least gave me comfort in knowing I'm obviously not alone in my struggles.) I've implemented several strategies with my kids and have already begun to notice a change in their behaviours, and therefore my own stress level. I recommend this book for anyone who might be having some struggles with young school aged kids!
As a mom of four, I am always in search of parenting books. I absolutely LOVED every page of this book. It was just phenomenal. It gave so much truth, honesty, encouragement, suggestions. I loved the way it was laid out for parents to understand, and to achieve and not feel as though its not possible. This book was wonderful! Every parent should have this book on their shelves.
This is a great resource for parents (and some things could be adapted to the classroom too; I’ll have to check out Teinert’s book on that subject). I appreciate the many practical, specific tips and examples of how to implement the 7 steps. The strategies are differentiated by age group. The visuals are also helpful in reinforcing the main points. While there are other books on the topic of responsive parenting, this book is unique in offering rituals of connection. My only tiny quibble: I'm still going to tell my kids "please" and "thank you" when I tell them to do something. I highly recommend this book!
