Description
"I thrust my hand toward the sky as my voice begs the Elemental inside me to waken and rise. But it's no use. The curse I've spent my entire life abhorring—the thing I trained so hard to control—no longer exists."
Nym has saved Faelen only to discover that Draewulf stole everything she valued. Now he’s destroyed her Elemental storm-summoning ability as well.
When Nym sneaks off with a host of delegates to Bron, Lord Myles offers her the chance for a new kind of power and the whispered hope that it may do more than simply defeat the monster she loathes. But the secrets the Bron people have kept concealed, along with the horrors Draewulf has developed, may require more than simply harnessing a darker ability.
They may require who she is.
Set against the stark metallic backdrop of the Bron kingdom, Nym is faced with the chance to change the future.
Or was that Draewulf’s plan for her all along?

I give the book five stars! I really enjoyed reading the second book and I am only disappointed that I can't read the third book. I can not wait to read the next book. I enjoyed the story and characters. I would recommend the book to anyone.
Series to keep your eyes on!
My review contains some SPOILERS!
In the second volume of Mary Weber´s series, we find Nym facing the heartbreaking news of Draewulf alive and entering Eogan´s body. Talk about cliffhanger! And not just that this, Nym is left blocked and without powers.
Armed with just her courage, she enters the Bron warship under the coverage of being a part of Falen diplomatical delegation along with friendly Cashlin princess Rasha and not-so-friendly lord protectorate Myles. Fighting for the small and uncertain hope, desperate Nym takes a dangerous decision to take a new powers - but these are of dangerous sort and the price might be very high...
I like very much that Mary Weber is not afraid to enter a darker page of Nym´s adventures. Nym we know now is stronger that hopeless and broken slave girl we met in a new installment. She knew friendship, love and meaning of life and most of that were taken from her by a cruel enemy. Facing the new kind of pain and feeling the strong need to protect her people, Nym makes some rushed and risky decisions. I like that very much, because Nym feels real, not like some perfect heroine, but like one of us.
Also I liked how the authoress showed some layers of Myles´s and even Draewulf´s characters, which make them more complex and "human" heroes (which sounds distracting when speaking of Draewulf, I know, but still, he was a human once).
I can´t help myself to like Myles, he is a well-written character! Also I like Kel.
On the other side I find Rasha a bit too much patronizing for my liking.
On a minus note, although I think that authoress can easily create tight-woven plot and interesting speed, I find the heroes´s difficulty to obtain some information very draggy. The were several situations where Nym and others could find the information, but in the last moment they couldn´t (respondent fainted, decided not to help or other reasons). It gets tiring. Also I do think that other side should react more! They were oblivious to our heroes´s activities too much. They were supposed to be a smart dark side after all!
All in all, I love the series. Mary Weber is smart authoress writing real characters and I love that! Waiting for the third installment!
The world-building, character development, and linguistic styling of Weber's fantasy release are engaging, evocative, and this is a strong competitor in the YA fantasy genre. The concept is quite unique and the imagery that the narrative draws in the mind is vivid and three-dimensional.
Be prepared for intense emotional feels through the book as well. You WILL be taken on an emotional roller coaster ride. The book sucks you in on all levels.
The only thing I didn't like about this book were the buried tinges of biblical references within. I realize that this was published by a "Christian Fiction" publishing company, but thought perhaps this was just coincidence; I know some houses diversify their publishing lists. However, the references are subtle, and this text really doesn't aim to "preach" to the audience, which is also refreshing. The spirituality adds to the uniqueness of this series.
I'd recommend this series for Fantasy fans and YA fans looking for something new. However, if you're not religious and don't particularly like those hints to appear in your books, I'd approach with caution. Otherwise, this is a fun summer-early fall read.
It's out now, so check it out.
