An old woman and a special boy come together over love of a dog, journey to Westminster and heal their troubled families in the process.

Benny Neusner, a 13 year-old boy with mild autism and ADHD, spends his days dreaming up ways to please his neglectful mother and avoid work at the special school he attends. He just knows if he won Westminster, the world’s greatest dog show, it would make his mother smile. He falls in love with McCreery, a has-been champion Standard Poodle and dreams McCreery could be the Best in Show, but McCreery belongs to another. His owner, 70 year-old Bess Rutherford, was once the greatest breeder of champion Standard Poodles in America. Now she has razed her famous Umpawaug Kennels, sold off all her remaining dogs except McCreery and given up her lifelong dream of winning Best in Show at Westminster—a feat she has actually never attempted for unknown reasons. Can a lonely boy who has never succeeded at anything in his life find a way to combine his dream and Bess,’ heal two families and create an ending that is almost perfect?
