Kat Robinson moved to Marietta, Montana with her ten year old after the death of her mom who was suffering for Alzheimer. Her priority is her son as she has no time for distractions even though she found a possible clue that her dad that she never met lived in the same town but was married at the time.

Flynn Bensen still suffers from a nightmare where an elderly he rescued from a wildfire died. He comes to Marietta looking for a fresh chance and his brother is getting married to a local girl. Flynn finds himself instantly attracted to his new co-worker Kat but he is weary of a work place relationship since his last relationship was one and it did not end up well since she used him until a richer guy came along.

Along the way, they try to keep their distance but forces keep throwing them together as Flynn starts to worm his way into Kat and her son’s lives. Can these two people who been hurt find love together and become a family even as Kat fears she’ll end up like her mother and grandmother who both suffered from Alzheimer,

Nice story of learning to move forward despite the fears of the future.

The story of Flynn and Kat, the next in the Big Sky Mavericks series is a pleasant read. This story depicts the story of two people trying to move forward in life trying to overcome the insecurities life throws. Add to it the agony of people disappearing or not available in life.

Excellent addition to the Big Sky Mavericks! This is a wonderfully written story of two people trying to put their pasts behind them and find a brighter future. Kat Robinson came to Marietta to give her and her son Brady a fresh start. And maybe, just maybe, to find out a little more about her mother's past. Flynn Bensen came to Marietta to get past the memories of a recent rescue gone bad. When he meets Kat Robinson on his first day he can't help but wonder exactly what he's gotten himself in to. The attraction between them is scorching, but being her boss makes her strictly hands off!! Right??

I loved this story and would recommend to everyone!

Kat has been in Montana a year she is "reconnecting" with a place her mom fell in love with before Kat was even boon. Her son is once again struggling and Kat is not sure is this is really the place for him and her to stay. She also has question as is this new boss of hers is fit to work with especially since her loss boss was such a "winner" to work with. She is starting to wonder if she made the right choice not taking the job as the boss. Flynn is a fire hot shot who has been dealing with a loss of a victim he can not seem to get the nightmares to stop. He knows things to need to change and he is ready for the change when he takes the job as a SAR commander in Montana. He is surprised to see that his new team is not so happy for the change and he's is ready to deal with some hard heads, head on. When both Flynn and Kat are forced together to help someone they start see that maybe things are as bad as it seems or they?
I had a blast reading this book, it was such a sweet love story. I love books that seem like the story could be taken from real life and not just a blown out story that seems so unrealistic, this book is just that a story that you feel your just catching up with friends. The chemistry in the book is there but its not what makes the book, the storyline is well written and has you drawn in and you find yourself having a hard time putting the book down. I can not wait for more from this author or more about the Montana Maverick group. I could easily give this book a 4 1/2 stars. You really can not go wrong with buying this book or the others in the series.

I love reading Debra Salonen's books! She's one of those authors who has the ability to make her readers feel good from the start to the finish of each book, and Montana Hero is no exception. Book five in the Big Sky Mavericks series, Montana Hero is packed with warmth, believable characters that you'll find very easy to like and relate to, and a plot that will keep you wondering right to the end. While reading the other books in the series will help you to establish who is who, it 's not essential. This story stands up just fine on its own.
Katherine Robinson and her son Brady have moved to Marietta Montana to start a new life after her marriage failed. Kat's mother, now deceased, never married and never told her the identity of her father, however she did tell Kat that she was conceived in Marietta and that she and Kat's father loved each other but couldn't marry.
Brady believes he knows the identity of his grandfather and he's determined to make that grandfather acknowledge him. When confronting him doesn't work Brady decides on another plan, one that gets him into all sorts of strife.
Flynn Benson is the new boy in town, having taken the job of Commander of Crawford County Search snd Rescue. He is Kat's boss and despite feeling instantly attracted to her he is determined to keep their relationship purely professional. The trouble is he can't stop thinking about her and the feeling is mutual. This book is a little longer than the average novella though if you're anything like me you won't notice that salient fact. The pages seem to turn themselves and you'll find yourself at the end almost before you started. Montana Hero is a great weekend read that I'm sure you'll really enjoy.

When Flynn Bensen moves to Marietta, Montana to be in charge of the county Search and Rescue unit, he is immediately attracted to his new employee, Kat Robinson. Flynn has already barely suffered the aftermath of becoming involved with someone he works with, and he is also struggling to deal with a rescue gone wrong in his last job. He is determined not to become involved with Kat, but he can't get her off of his mind. Kat has her own baggage, and she is no more ready for a relationship with Flynn than he is with her. Kat is the single mother of 10 year old Brady, and when he drops a bombshell on some residents of Marietta, it jeopardizes the place of mother and son in the community. Thinking she'll be leaving soon, Kat embarks on a passionate evening with Flynn. As feelings develop for one another, Flynn and Kat have to determine whether they can move beyond their pasts in order to have a future together.

I throroughly enjoyed this contemporary romance. Flynn and Kat were both very likable and their story was touching. I thought that Kat's son, Brady, added a great deal to the story. The setting and background were colorful and interesting, and I enjoyed the return of characters from the author's previous books. I look forward to reading more in this series. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

A great addition to the Big Sky Mavericks Series. Both Flynn and Katherine have pasts that need to be healed and overcome. Kat, a young Mom of a child with Aspberger's and Flynn issues with PTSD from a Forest Fire where he blames himself for the death of an older woman he could not save. Flynn has left the fire service to become the head of the SAR Unit in Marietta. Kat, works in the SAR office has moved there after her divorce from her son Brady's father and her mother who has died. Marietta may also have the answer to questions about her birth father. Heartwarming and Heartwrenching this book grabs hold of your heart as Flynn and Kat work through the challenges and issues of trust.

I received an ARC from the Publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

After the death of her Mom who suffered from early onset Alzheimers and a series of traumatic events, Katherine (Kat) Robinson took a chance by moving to Marietta, Montana with her much loved ten year old son, Brady, who has Aspergers. This is the place Kat’s Mom had very happy memories of and where Kat was conceived. She doesn’t know who her father is, her Mom wouldn’t tell her anything except he was already married. She’s been working as part of the Crawford County Search and Rescue team for a year and is delighted that her old boss has gone but is wary of the new guy because she knows, if the timing had been different, it is a job she’d have gone for.

Flynn Bensen is moving to Marietta after his last wildfire rescue attempt failed to save an elderly women. He’s been having recurrent nightmares about it ever since and feels guilty though everyone else says his efforts were heroic. Now he’s taken the new job and takes in donuts on his first day with the team, bumping into one of them and nearly dropping the donuts in the process! What an introduction for Flynn and Kat. The attraction between them is instantaneous and highly volatile but he’s determined never to have a relationship with a co-worker and she’s focussed on looking after Brady. Will they be able to keep resisting? When Brady decides to confront his possible grandfather and do a disappearing act, life is going to get hectic for the two adults. Will she recognise Flynn as the hero she needs and loves or will her head rule her heart?

It is lovely to meet up with familiar characters in this series again! The story is well written, with plenty of action, drama and turmoil as well as emotional upheaval to keep the reader entertained throughout. The characters both need to learn to move forward despite their fears for the future and their journey to reach their HEA is a fantastic read and a great addition to the series. It also leaves more characters to find their own HEA in future novels and I’ll certainly be looking out for them being published, too!

Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley, too for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Montana Hero was a sweet and heartwarming read.

This book had the perfect amount of drama and it wasn't overly done. It was just enough to keep you interested in both main characters.

Overall a good afternoon read.

What a great addition to the Big Sky Mavericks. The story of Flynn and Kat, both fighting their own demons but trying to make a fresh start in Marietta, Montana. Flynn has taken on the new job as the head of Crawford County Search and Rescue where Kat has worked for the last few years. Kat is a single mom, raising Brady who has Aspberger's. They both have trust issues from previous relationships, but the chemistry between these two are hot. Kat is also concerned with the history of Alzheimers in her family, and does not want to burden anyone else with the illness. A great saying, Us. As in the two of us creating memories that will last a lifetime.

This is a well written book, with topics that affect many families. Plenty of drama in the story, love how it was all handled. I love this series, excited for more to come.

I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.

I loved this book. It was just so real and down to earth, a very natural and relatable story. Flynn is dealing with the death of someone he couldn't save. He's looking for a fresh start and taking over Marietta's SAR is just what he needs. Burned by a previous marriage, he's protecting his heart and is playing it safe.

Kat has a "death sentence" hanging over her head, in the form of potential early onset Alzheimer's. A single mom to a son with Asperger's syndrome, she lost her husband to divorce, her mom to Alzheimer's and a father with no identity. Hoping for some answers she moved to Marietta and found a job with SAR, but after more than a year she still didn't have the nerve to follow through on confronting the man she suspects is her father.

Together Flynn and Kat have this great chemistry that complements each other and they make a great team. The attraction is blatant between them but neither wants a messy entanglement in the workplace

I think Brady is the real hero of this book. I just loved his character. He really knows his mind. He's clear on his target and so focussed. Even though his plan went awry he was still able to achieve what he set out to do. Find a family for himself and his mom.

As always you will meet many of the Montana series favorites and a few new characters that will make the basis for a few more Big Sky Mavericks titles. .

It so good to head back to Marietta, Montana and visit with the folks from the Big Sky Mavericks series. I adore every single family in this lively town and while it may not seen that the focus is on the Zabrinski folks, they are certainly scattered throughout this newest addition to Ms. Salonen’s beloved Big Sky Mavericks series.

Katherine escaped to Marietta after her mother died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Knowing that both her mother and grandmother passed away from this disease, and knowing that she stands a better than average chance of contracting the disease has Katherine hesitant to ever enter into a long term relationship again. In many ways her mother’s actions while under the influence of this heartbreaking disease will haunt not only her past but her present and future as well.

Her job at Crawford County Search and Rescue gives her satisfaction and the chance to now live in the town her mother had a connection to in her past and is the location of a mystery in her own life. Her son Brady is her joy. Brady has Aspergers, and while he is an above average intelligent young boy, the school and the stability of this small town is also a reason for Katherine to make her future here. Now that the corrupt former head of the SAR is gone she has better hopes for the new man soon to arrive. Hopefully life will settle down once again.

Flynn has made the decision to accept the job as the head of the local SAR in Marietta. His brother has settled here. And after the constant nightmares of the woman he could not save from a deadly wildfire, Flynn is ready to move on. While this job will still allow him to protect and serve, as well as be available for occasional duties as a wildfire fighter, it won’t be his main focus any longer. Perhaps this move will help ease the guilt of his failure, in his eyes, of not being able to save a woman who haunts his dreams.

While Flynn is attracted to Katherine, he knows the pain of getting involved with a co-worker and has the divorce papers and the loss of his inheritance to prove how stupid that would be. Yet, Katherine and her son get under his skin and into his emotions. Time will tell if repeating a past mistake would have different results, but for now his focus is on getting his teams together and comfortable working with him.

Brady adored his grandmother. She would tell him stories of her time in Marietta. And the hints she gave him have turned his active, intelligent mind to solving a mystery. The results of his quest will forever change lives in this small town.

Montana Hero is the first story of another group of folks heading for Marietta, Montana. As always there are several threads to past couples and future possibilities in any novel set in this amazing small town. And we will find those threads that should weave through upcoming novels in this one. So while it might seem that there is story building that isn’t played out in this story, keep in mind that Montana Rogue, – Montana Miracle – Montana Rebel are additional stories that will be coming our way over the next few months. That I am really looking forward to.

So, back to Montana Hero. :) I enjoyed Katherine and Flynn’s story so much. They both have pain and betrayal in their pasts. Now they are fighting the attraction between them. Of course, the journey to true love rarely runs smoothly and it’s no different for this couple. I found their hesitations to be honest and believable. Yes, there is no doubt that these two can burn up the sheets, but sex is secondary to the overall life that they could build together – if they are brave enough. Flynn’s acceptance of Brady’s specialness is touching and, in my opinion, the way a real man would act. Once again, Ms Salonen delivers a fantastic, realistic story with characters who become family and friends in just a few chapters. You cannot go wrong when visiting Marietta – in fact, I wouldn’t mind moving there myself.

*I received an e-ARC of Montana Hero from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

A good overall read. As someone who has family memebrs touched my Aspergers, I liked Brady's character a lot. It was a good build up in the beginning, but the point of the main characters getting intimate to the eventual engagement it seems like a lot of the story was glossed over and rushed through. Overall a good read that I would recommend to others.

Marietta, Montana is one of my favorite places to visit with the Zabrinski family being one of my favorite families. Montana Hero by Debra Salonen is branching out of the original siblings in this book. I loved it and the connection both of the main characters have to the Zabrinskis. This is a series that is not winding down but instead revving up.

Debra Salonen continues to tackle major life issues in the Big Sky Mavericks Series. This time it is autism and Alzhemer’s, which she handles with sensitivity and a dose of matter of fact-ness. None is sugar coated but neither is this a sad depressing kind of story. She writes in a way that makes me care about the characters, in this case Flynn, Kat and her son, Brady. I would be terribly disappointed if that did not have a HEA conclusion so that is a given. However, there is danger and mystery throughout the story.

I get so caught up with what is happening in Ms. Salonen’s characters’ lives that is not until after I have finished the book that I realize that there are some unanswered questions. Two of the main ones have to do with the Crawford County SAR finances and just how much is Janet involved in all the inappropriate handling of funds before Flynn arrived. Oh well, maybe it will come out in Flynn’s friends’ stories. In my mind, I have someone all picked out for Tucker and Justin. Time will tell if I’m right.

There was something very real and lifelike in this touching novel. The story has several voices in it, his, hers and her son's. It gives it more spice, more layers, and makes the situation well understood, well rounded. The insights to the characters makes them easy to like, and relate to.
I admire how respectfully the author has always handled serious situations, like this time the autistic son, Brady, and his condition, emotions, and situations are handled with great respect, in a real, tasteful way.
Flynn and Kat both came to Marietta, Montana to start their lives anew. They are working together, and that is not the best place for the instant attraction they feel for each other. There are some humorous situations they are put because of the work they do, as well as serious emergencies, that made me bite my nails and hold my breath.
There's some family drama, and clearly shown how past mistakes can affect into today's life, even if those mistakes were not ours.
A great addition to the Montana Mavericks series, a tender and compassionate story of learning to trust, and taking the risk of leaping into the future, grasping the life we are given, and living it fully

We all have our demons that we need to overcome if we are to find happiness. Just ask Flynn Bensen and Katherine Robinson, but they keep going and face each day with hope and determination. When these two meet in Marietta, Montana they form a bond of desire and awareness. Can they find love and happiness together? Kat has endured so much that she's afraid to believe that she has a future with someone that loves her. Her ten year old son needs all of her attention. She's shocked by her attraction to her new boss, Flynn Bensen. She can't believe that her life is so complicated. Flynn is starting over. Montana is the perfect destination. His brother is here with his new fiancée. As he settles in he dreams of love and a family with Kat. Can he get her to share her life with him? I was drawn into Montana Hero from the first page. I loved the characters. Their story is a roller coaster ride of emotions that pulled at my heartstrings. Marietta is a quaint and friendly town where people care about you. It's nice to see familiar characters and catch up with them. Debra Salonen writes from the heart. Montana Hero touched me and had me shedding a few tears. I really enjoyed this book, unfortunately I started the series quite a few books in so I've got some catching up to do with the Zabrinski family & others in Marietta Montana. Flynn decides it's time for a change when he can't get rid of this nightmare of not being able to save an old lady & her horses from a forest fire. Now as head of Search and Rescue in Marietta he hopes that change will bring him some peace, but now he's dreaming of Kat who works for him. Pretty much love at first sight is what happens to him but his history with women doesn't end well for him, just ask his gold digging ex-wife & former co-worker. Kat is a single mom of a son with Asperger's who put up with a boss that sexually harassed her & a secret as to why she moved to Marietta. she's looking for her birth father & she's trying to start over again after the devastating death of her mother from Alzheimer's. What ensues is amazing in the thinking of a little 10 yr old boy & how a secret that's let out accidentally turns everyone against Kat but when that little boy's life is in danger Flynn & everyone in town turn out to rescue that little boy. I like how the other characters are continued on in the books from earlier & we also get to meet 3 new characters in Tucker & Justin, Flynn's best friends & Amanda, Molly's granddaughter. I'm hoping that there will be a story on Tucker & Amanda. Definitely Recommend.

Flynn Benson had no idea moving to Montana would change his life so much. All he wanted was a change of scenery and a chance to forget the woman he couldn’t save from a wildfire. Heading Crawford County Search & Rescue would be the perfect position for him. He could still be involved with what he loves, but with a change of scenery.

Flynn had given up on women after his last marriage. He just didn’t trust them anymore. That was until he met one of his employees, Katherine “Kat” Robinson. She would be worth taking a chance on. But he knew not to get involved with an employee.

Kat is a single mother raising her son Brady on her own. Kat decided to move to Marietta because before her mother died, she said it was the only place where she was happy. Maybe Kat would be happy there too. Plus it might give her a chance to figure out who her father is.

Kat is instantly attracted to Flynn, but knows workplace romances don’t work out. Will Kat and Flynn be able to keep it business only or will they give into their feelings?

There is a lot more to this story than I can tell without giving it all away. One part had me biting my nails in anticipation of what would happen. The chemistry was really strong between the lead characters too. I also enjoyed catching up with some of the characters from previous Big Sky Mavericks Books.

Another HUGE HIT by Debra Salonen! She brings another new series to life. We meet Firefighters/ Search and Rescue manly Men who relocate to Marietta Montana. There we have a wonderful story of heart, devotion, understanding of sacrifice and family. Coupled with all the beloved characters of past books, this shows how two people can support each other during the most difficult of times.

In Montana Hero, Debra Salonen has found a way to bring the reader back to Marietta and bring back the Big Sky Mavericks. Flynn Bensen needed a change of scenery after, and, when his brother Ryker convinced him to take a job in Marietta, he had the perfect opportunity to make the move and try something little different.
Single Mom Kat Robinson brought her son to Marietta hoping to find out why it was where her Mom was happiest and see if it was the place for her. The attraction between the two is instantaneous, but since Flynn is Kat's boss, they both have reasons for resisting. As things heat up, secrets come out, and Kat has to decide if Marietta is someplace she can stay and if Flynn is the man for her.
These two were such fun characters. These were two realistic characters searching for their place. Salonen did a wonderful job of developing them and their story, making the reader feel that they were people that could be found anywhere. Throw in Kat's son Brady, and the Zabrinski clan, and you have an amazing cast of characters. I love that she was able to bring us back into her Big Sky Mavericks series, introducing new characters that fit right in. Even if you haven't read any of the other stories, you won't be lost reading this one.
I really enjoyed the story and was excited at the chance to revisit past characters. Salonen has a style that pulls you in and keeps you so involved in the story that you don't realize you aren't actually a part of the story until you hit the last word.

Debra Salonen’s Marietta, Montana love stories are heartwarming to read, full of family values and the unconditional love and support extends to extended families and more. The characters are so interwoven and connected in ways that make these stories interesting to ready and Debra is good with keeping the flow of the story going strong and captivating.

Flynn Benson meets Kat Robinson and that instant attraction flares between them, but then Flynn has insecurities that question his very job of search and rescue, and Kat has parental obligations that don’t leave room for relationships. But then Kat is in Marietta for a reason that Flynn is not aware that would cause quiet a stir on the little town.

Montana Hero” book 6 in the Big Sky Maverick series, is another Marietta love story that takes you on a journey of finding one’s identity and build trust that may result in a lifelong relationship love and family. Debra builds a good short and sweet story around Flynn, Kat and Brady…rich in emotions and full of love.

Salonen has a priceless gift for crafting believable, engaging characters and spinning tales that pull you in from the very first page. Montana Hero is another such novel from a wonderfully talented author. Highly recommended!

Kat Robinson and Flynn Bensen have an instant attraction that is undeniable. But Flynn comes with baggage. He's already done the workplace fling thing once and it didn't go well and he's battling some serious guilt over his last rescue attempt that ended with casualties. Kat is not without her own baggage ... single mother to a 10 year old boy who doesn't trust in love or romance. When Kat thinks she's on her way out of Marietta she lets her baggage go for one night and has herself a blazing night with Flynn...
But life is never that easy, is it LOL So feelings start to develop, walls start to come down and now we have ourselves a true Marietta, Montana love story :)
I can't say it enough, but I really love this town and its people. It was been a heck of a ride reading all these stories and none of them have disappointed!
