Willa Fairchild was a hard working nurse and had been given the most incredible early Christmas presents from one of her former patients, 3 weeks at the Bramble House B&B in Marietta. She had been with him right until the end, when his own children were not. This was just the break she needed, to give her son (6 year old Scout) the chance of a white Christmas, the first one since they had received the good news he was now cancer free!
Finn Conrad aka Finn Knightly successful children's illustrator was an illustrator for multiple children's books. When his parent got a divorce several years earlier, it was not a good one at all. When his mother blamed his father for everything and anything that happened to go wrong. So when they received the news that her ex-husband had left $50,000 to a nurse he had only know 6 weeks, there was lots of speculation on why. Finn was ordered to go find out why and who this Willa chick was.
Marietta was magically and it wasn't just because it was Christmas when everyone was in this giving mood, it is the town itself as it had proven itself time and time again. This magic enveloped Scout who started to believe in Santa again, now it just needed to work on Willa and Finn not just because they were made for each other. They were destined for each other, as it had been written in the stars years earlier.
CJ Carmichael is a great author and this book is not a disappointment at all. As she has done in the past, she brings us to Marietta and lets us feel like we are there ourselves. This is definitely a book you want to add to your Christmas list.
Received an ARC for an honest review.
A heartwarming story that will leave you believing in the magic of Christmas.
For Willa Fairchild, it was all about getting away for Christmas. She brought her son Scout to Marietta Montana to spend three weeks at Bramble House B&B. The trip was planned by a patient who she befriended before he died.
Finn Conrad needed to learn more about the woman who received a large chunk of his father's money after he died. He couldn't understand why he would leave so much money in his will to someone else and so little to him and of his siblings.
What Finn didn't expect to find was a kind hearted woman with a child who was recently given a clean bill of health after fighting cancer. Finn also didn't expect he would soon be falling in love with Willa. What will happen when Willa finds out the truth about Finn?
This is one of those memorable stories that you will remember for a long time. The slow build to Willa and Finn's romance was perfect and the mystery of the ring and how it brings a family together was a perfect touch to the story.
Loved this book! The setting was perfect and very festive for Christmas. The storyline was interesting with finding out how all the characters intertwined. Scout's overcoming his cancer and gaining confidence was heart warming. Nothing to complain about in this book!
Interesting name for a boy.
Okay, how does he know who she is?
They don't need a man like Jeff in their lives.
His mother is a bitter old woman.
Bacon is important, Scout.
Time to cut the cord.
Poor Keelin, but what exactly does a genetics counselor do?
I was thinking the same thing.
It's a long movie for me too.
Aw, Scout.
A Holiday read that will pull your heartstrings! Willa and her son Scout are celebrating Christmas in Montana. Left the trip in a former patient's will and a large check, this is also a celebration for Scout after recovering from a serious illness. Finn follows Willa to Montana, his family wants to know why their father left this nurse the money. A little Christmas magic, cookies from Kris Krinkles, a beautiful Montana Sapphire ring and the chance to revisit former characters from all the Marietta Montana/Tule Publishing Series make for a great read!
The perfect, heartwarming Christmas book. A page turner that will put you in the mood for the upcoming Christmas Holidays.
Willa and Scout have come to Bramble House to celebrate the holidays. Willa is a single mom, who's recent patient has died and left her a large sum of money. Finn has followed Willa to Bramble House, to find out more why his deceased dad left her this money. Both with secrets that they are not about to share in the beginning. Loved how their relationship developed. Christmas truly is magical.
I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the Carrigans of Circle C, this book can be read as a stand alone. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.
A wonderfully heartwarming holiday read. Willa and her young son Scout have had their share of bad times. After making it through years of fighting cancer Scout is now healthy and ready to be like every other kid, Willa however still has a little trouble believing everything is ok. The vacation trip that was left to her along with a check and an heirloom ring by one of her patients is just what they both need. The last thing she expected was to meet Finn Knightly. He's kind, gentle and treats Scout like gold. But neither is completely honest with the other. Can their budding relationship survive their secrets?
This is one I definitely recommend.
Willa and her son Scout have spent the last few years living in a personal hell fighting Scout's cancer now that he is doing better and a patient of Willa gave her a dream trip, they decided to take it for Christmas and so the adventure begins. Finn is on his on adventure and he need to know why his dad made the choices he did on his death bed and there seems to be only one person who can tell him. Only problem is when he follows Willa and Scout he never excepted the other secrets that he would uncover or how much more he would find out.
This book is just amazing. Every Christmas deserves a little magic but in this book a little magic can become a Christmas miracle. The story is so well written and so enjoyable and if you are truly looking for a really fun christmas read then this is the book for you and you really can not go wrong with it.
CJ Carmichael has delivered a delightful Christmas story in A Bramble House Christmas. It was lovely to return to Marietta and catch up with Eliza, Marshall and Aunt Mabel, but more delightful was watching the love grow between Willa and Finn.
I love Bramble House. It sounds so warm and inviting. Just the way a guesthouse should be, so I was inclined favourably towards this book before I even started. It didn't disappoint. CJ Carmichael has a lovely warm style to her writing. It was easy to understand Willa's protectiveness of Scout and Scout's need to get out there and do normal things. I loved the way they both grew in confidence as the book progressed.
Finn too was likeable right from the start. Even when he thought Willa was a swindler, he was there watching out for her as she drove to Marietta through a blizzard. This book is well written, has a lovely warm plot to it, and is perfect for curling up n front of the fire with. Have a Sage Carrigan hot cocoa to sip while you read and you'll be close to heaven.
A wonderful Christmas novella this is part of the Carrigans of the Circle C series. I haven't read the previous 6 books but I had no trouble enjoying this holiday story. Willa, a nurse, and her 6 year old son, Scout, have an inheritance from a patient. A trip to Montana and money to pay off medical debts from Scout's cancer treatments. The patient's family isn't happy with this event and his son, Finn follows her to see how she swindled his dad. Of course, since it's Christmas they fall in love but have to get through all the distrust and lies An excellent short read to fill an evening over the holiday.
Willa and her son Scout have traveled to Marietta, Montana to stay at the lovely bed and breakfast called the Bramble House for the three weeks before Christmas. Willa is a nurse who had a very generous patient leave the prepaid trip, a ring and fifty thousand dollars to her in his will after he passed away. Her son Scout had just beaten cancer so she felt the two needed the getaway to help Scout feel normal again.
Finn Knightly is the son of the patient that left Willa such a generous amount in his will. Finn and his three sisters and mother believe that Willa had to scam their father so Finn has decided to book the same bed and breakfast to check out Willa for himself. What Finn doesn’t count on is falling in love with Willa and her son.
Such a beautiful story in a beautiful setting. Marietta and it’s small town charm really makes me want to head somewhere on a Christmas trip of my own. Scout and his story would bring tears to my eyes thinking how the little guy had fought so hard and just wanted to be a normal kid. Also couldn’t help but feel for Willa and her over protectiveness with Scout, how much she had gone through with him just pulls at the heartstrings. Finn was also a wonderful man who adored children and even when learning the truth didn’t run from Scout the way his own father had.
Overall, highly recommend this wonderful Christmas romance.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Christmas magic is alive and well in Marietta, Montana this year… and just in time for this couple. Willa and her son, Scout, have come out the other side of a nightmare – a horrible nightmare called cancer. And with the generous gift from a patient, they both are having a wonderful Marietta Christmas. Finn and his mother and sisters are suspicious of the bequest in Finn’s father’s will. Fifty thousand dollars to a nurse who only took care of his father for the final six weeks of his life? Really? Sounds like a scam to him… and now he’s followed her to Marietta in order to get to the bottom of this personal mystery.
A Bramble House Christmas is such an emotion packed story that goes beyond the wonder of the Christmas season to a very poignant reason for celebration in Willa’s life. Scout has beaten childhood cancer, and while the possibility for a remission always will exist, right now he is cancer-free and that should make her the happiest mother on earth. And it does, no doubt about that – but it’s hard to not worry about his health, and letting her perfectly normal boy behave exactly like, well a normal little boy once again is going to take some adjustments.
Finn soon realizes that while Willa might seem to be keeping a secret, she certainly doesn’t seem like the kind of woman to steal from a very sick man. And her son is simply charming, yet something is off – so what’s one more mystery to solve. It seems like more and more questions keep popping up no matter how attracted to Willa is becoming to him.
This story is full of the magic of Christmas, celebrations of several events and romance. It’s not fair to give away much of this heartwarming story. I believe A Bramble House Christmas is one of the most emotionally satisfying stories I’ve read this Christmas reading season. It is definitely one that I will be rereading for years to come. Realistic, heartwarming and full of Christmas wonder – you’re going to want to read this one, hot chocolate with whipped cream optional.
*I received an e-ARC of A Bramble House Christmas from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
This is such a heartwarming Christmas story! Willa and her son, Scout, have traveled to Montana for a much needed Christmas vacation. Willa is a nurse and the trip was a generous gift from a patient. Willa plans on having a wonderful Christmas because Scout was just declared cancer free and the last few years have been a nightmare. Finn is at Bramble House at the request of his mother and sisters. The family is suspicious of the nurse that was included in Finn's father’s will. They felt that fifty thousand dollars left to a nurse that only took care of his father for the final six weeks of his life sounded a bit suspicious.
As Finn gets to know Willa a bit better he doesn't feel that she is a woman capable of taking advantage of a very sick man. After he learns about Scout's past he has a fuller understanding of what his father may have been thinking. Finn is drawn to Willa and her son and he feels guilty about the original reason he came to Bramble House.
This is a heartwarming story of romance and new beginnings and I really enjoyed it. It is a perfect read for the Christmas season.
I loved this book and would recommend. I loved how it could be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. This is a must read book.
I really wanted to give this book 4 stars but I couldn't . It didn't keep my attention and I felt like the relationship took too long to get going in such a short book. I've enjoyed other books by this author but this one just left me feeling flat. I loved the character of Scout and his long battle with cancer. Willa and Finn were just okay. I did enjoy the trip to the ice rink for Scout's first skating lesson and it was great to see the characters from previous books.
What's not to love ....
Willa Knightly, a young nurse and single mom with a 6 year old son who have fought and won their battle with Cancer. A loving elderly patient stricken with the same evil, bond over his fight. He leaves in his will a large sum which causes the family to wonder why...
Egged on by his bitter mom and concerned sisters, Finn Conrad goes to Marietta, Montana to see who this woman is and what hold she had on his father....
Both spend the next 3 weeks hiding their secrets while having this sense of something special for each other...Will new trust be broken and the opportunity to experience an authentic love be lost...
We have this love story surrounded by the ever present warmth of Marietta and all of the on going characters. There are questions about an old rumored affair, a secretive Santa and a little boy who has the strength and heart to bring all of them together in the end. A lovely Christmas read from our Marietta family.
A gifted copy was provided by Tule Publishing via NetGalley for an honest review.
A Bramble House Christmas is the sixth book in the Carrigans of the Circle C series. The author is CJ Carmichael who is one of my favorite romance writers.
A Bramble House Christmas is a heartwarming tale that is just perfect to get into the Christmas spirit. It is extremely well written and is an excellent tale. If you have read Snowbound in Montana then you will be familiar with the couple who run the Bramble House Inn. Sage, the owner of the chocolate shop, is also featured as is Callan to a lesser degree. CJ Carmichael has done a great job with introducing new characters into Marietta, Montana.
Marietta, Montana is a fictional town in the mountains south of Bozeman. It sounds like to the perfect place to spend a white Christmas. Willa Fairchild's and Finn Conrad's story will move your heartstrings. I was in happy tears by the end...always the sign of a great romance!
If you are only going to read one Christmas romance this season then this is the one! Highly recommend.
Another winner from CJ Carmichael, “A Bramble House Christmas” easily worms itself right into your heart starting on page one.
Set in the fictional town of Marietta, Montana, “A Bramble House Christmas” follows Finn Knightly and Willa Fairchild who are just visiting Marietta. Willa is vacationing with her six-year-old son Scout while Finn is there to get inspiration for a new book that he is illustrating.
But, Finn also has an ominous reason. He wants to meet the woman whom his recently deceased father left $50,000. Yet, though he feels that Willa was hiding a secret, Finn can also see that she is not the gold digger he pictured her to be. And he is danger of falling in love with her, perhaps the same way that his father did.
A heartwarming story that also heightens the Christmas message of love, forgiveness and acceptance, “A Bramble House Christmas” is perfect to enjoy while sitting by the fire. It is also a great Christmas present for the romance novels loves in your gift list.
“A Bramble House Christmas” is Rated T for Teens due to some adult situations. There are no sex scenes in this book.
Overall, I am huge fan of CJ Carmichael stories, but this one didn't work for me. This short story felt more like an introduction for a new set of characters for future stories. The romance between Willa and Finn just wasn't very interesting. The story was very predictable and lacked some of the pain and heartache that Ms. Carmichael is generally so good at putting in her books. She is one of my favorite Tule writers, so I was sadly disappointed by this one.
This book was amazing! I usually don’t like Christmas things (I’m like the Grinch :P ) so this book it’s really wonderful. It was really cute and fun but it also has some mystery and history which made it even more entertaining :) . My favorite part was the end, it almost made me cry. I won’t spoil you so you have to read it to know more. ;)
Willa is a wonderfull woman! :D I absolutely love her, she’s so nice and such a good mother, always caring about her son (sometimes to much) but also trying to give him his space to be free. She’s also so lovely and sweet with everybody she meets, it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t like the person, she’ll still be polite.
Finn is also great. He’s a real gentleman but he made a lot of bad choice that didn’t work the best for him. All the things he did with Scout and Willa were so sweet and fun, I liked him a lot and I think he’d be such a great father. Oh! And I love his job, it’d be awesome if I could draw.
Scout was my favorite character by far! He was such a polite and respectful kid. I loved him! He was so sweet and to other people, not all kids are that way but he was and he made all the book had that sweet and “Christmas” things.
A Bramble House Christmas by CJ Carmichael is an excellent Marietta, Montana story. Neither of the main characters are Montana natives. In fact, this is the first visit to the area for both. I enjoyed how the B&B is place where more stories can take place without everyone having to move or be from Marietta. It is a nice thought to think that there is a place in life where goodness reigns and love can be found.
I also like how the past generation is also lending the present generation. That is truly what happens here with Finn’s father. While it doesn’t seem as if his father had this planned his actions bring Willa and Finn together. I also very much enjoyed the magical Kris Kringle aspect of the story, and love how he is making an appearance in several of the Montana Christmas stories this year. Then one could not read Scout’s victories without falling in love with this little fella. It is a wonderful romantic read with just a touch of magic and an intrigue.
4.5 Stars The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.
I received an ARC copy from Lola's Blog Tours through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was an amazing Christmas story of love and struggles that happens in every day lifes. It was a fast moving story that grabbed you from the start and wouldn't let you stop reading till the end. The struggles that Willa Fairchild and her son Scout goes through are a struggle everyone could face and come out stronger in the end. Have to read just to find out how they coped so well. Finn Conrad Knightly a brilliant man in his field of work shows just how family pulls together to find the truth and happiness they all want. CJ Carmichael has given us loveable, flawed characters with multiple layers.
this will post 11/19
It’s been a long few years for Willa Fairchild and her son Scout and it’s time for some fun.
Scout has just been given the all clear sign and knowing that his cancer is gone is the relief Willa has needed for years. If only she could stop panicking at every sneeze. A trip to Bramble House Bed and Breakfast for Christmas is just what they need.
Finn Conrad wants to know why his father left a bunch of money for his nurse. What did this woman do to talk him out of all of that money – and why hadn’t he asked his kids to be there with him? There are too many questions and only one person has the answers…
Hott Review:
What a book! I loved every word of A Bramble House Christmas. It’s Mom-Romance. Sure Finn falls for Willa, but more than that, it’s his relationship with Scout that really makes this book romantic.
Ms. Carmichael skipped the steam in this book and gave us a romantic read heavy on Christmas Spirit and a genetic mystery 😉

Willa and her son, Scout, spend Christmas in Montana at a B&B where she meets Flynn. Good east reading romance
Finn can't understand why his father would leave a great deal of money to his nurse that he has only known for 6 weeks. So he follows her to a Bed and Breakfast to get to the bottom of it.
Willa is taking her son to the B&B on a much needed vacation before Christmas now that he is cancer free. Willa proves herself to be a caring and sympathetic woman as Finn soon realizes, almost at the time he realizes he is falling for her too. Finn's secret threatens to destroy the connection that has been growing between them.
At times I wanted to just stay home and read to finish the book, though it did slow a little bit towards the end. This is a series but I didn't feel lost in the characters so easily a standalone book, but lots of cousins to learn about too. Cute, fun light read. Snow, skating, and hot chocolate is served and waiting.
enjoyed this very much. this is the second holiday book in this town and I want to go there. Sweet and just a little bit of problem in the story but a great read
A lovely book about single mom Willa, with a little boy, Scout, who has beat cancer, and their struggle learning to live a normal life. Along the way Willa falls in love with Finn who isn't entirely what he seems. A wonderful Christmas read that makes you want to move to Montana, drink decadent hot cocoa, sled, and fall in love.
What a wonderful Christmas book! It had all the good feelings I look for in a Christmas read and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, it was a great way to begin the season.
This book is #6 in a series. I have only read books 1 and 2, so I was a little skeptical that I might not understand some of the book. However, there was nothing in this story that I felt like I didn't understand. The story contains so much love, forgiveness and happiness that it will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tule Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Kitty's review:
CJ Carmichael really stole my heart with this Christmas Story. I fell in love with Scout, didn’t know how to take Finn and my heart broke for Willa. But, throughout the story, each of the characters grew into different people that I absolutely loved.
The story of Finn and Willa could have had a totally different outcome than what it did. As level heads presided and a little bit of Christmas Magic happened, the truth came to light and decisions had to be made. Does Willa trust Finn with her heart and Scout’s or does she walk away from what could be the love of her life?
Finn doesn’t like this situation at all. His mother wants answers and he feels that he cannot say no to her. Even his sisters are questioning his reasons for being there. There has to be another way to find out why their father befriended this woman without deceiving her. But, when Finn finally comes to terms with the fact that he has fallen in love with this woman, found out the mystery behind the ring and the family connection to Marietta, Montana, it’s too late. She’s found out the truth and cannot trust him.
Willa can’t believe that this wonderful man fell into her life. But she’s in awe that he’s the illustrator for Scout’s favorite book or that he would have any interest in her. This trip was a gift from a dying man who she had so much respect for. And Scout is loving every minute here … he’s thrived since coming here. He’s loving the snow, loving learning how to skate and over the moon about being in one of the “Everyday Sam” books that he loves so much. But, something is off and she can’t put her finger on it. Finn is attentive then far away … the ring is really bothering her … she’s still worried about Scout’s illness and, then there’s the cryptic message from Kris Krinkle’s to Scout that has her really baffled. Maybe it’s time to just relax and have fun again. Then, maybe it’s time to let the dream go and face reality … Finn only wanted information from her and nothing more, or so she thought.
Marietta, Montana sounds like a wonderful place to visit for the holidays. The Marietta Stroll seems like it would be a good and fun time filled with laughter, good people and so much to do. The Bramble House came to life in this book and it’s occupants were ranged from lively to broody, mysterious to fun-loving and they all came alive under the wonderful writing of CJ Carmichael. Out of all of the Marietta, Montana books that I have read and reviewed, this was most definitely my favorite. Scout just pulled on my heart-strings and had me cheering him on. He was adorable, fun, well-mannered and just plain curious about everything and everyone around him. He made this story fun and interesting.
So, enjoy the Marietta Stroll … have a nice cup of tea sitting in front of the fire and enjoy this beautiful Christmas story.
I've only read two of the books in this series (both holiday iterations) and I loved them both! Both books were fine to read standalone and both are making it on to my Christmas book list from which I read at least a few books every December! Last year, I read Snowbound in Montana and loved it! A Bramble House Christmas was even more magical -- set in the Bramble house B&B in the heart of Marietta. I loved the traditional Christmas activities (sledding, pond skating, strolling through down the main drag) and the coziness of the B&B. Usually I'm not a huge fan of books with babies and kids but this one was so well done!! Finn and Willa really got to know each other over the course of the book and everything felt right. All I can say is that I wish Marietta existed and that I could spend Christmas there!!
A Bramble House Christmas, by CJ Carmichael, is a selection of the multifaceted Copper Mountain series from Tule Publishing. RN Willa Fairchild was bequeathed a three week Christmas vacation at the Bramble House B&B as well as $50,000 by the late hospice patient Greg Conrad.
When Willa and her son, Scout, arrive in Bozeman, Montana after their flight from Phoenix, they are met by a snow storm that progresses until almost blinding when they finally arrive in Marietta, Montana and the B&B. On the drive, Scout asks his mother to promise that she will not tell those they meet about the cancer he has survived, just to let him be a regular kid and she cautiously agrees.
Among those at the B&B are the owners, Eliza and Marshall McKenzie, her aunt, Mable Bramble, a mysterious man, Kris Krinkle, and a book illustrator who identifies himself as Finn Knightly, but is in fact the son of Greg Conrad and there on behalf of his family to find out if their dad was swindled out of money that should have been their inheritance. Finn hits it off big with Scout and begins doing things with him and his mom.
Quickly Finn becomes convinced that Willa is not a swindler, but is unable to find out why his father would do such a thing. As they spend more time together and become better acquainted, they both feel the attraction. But the attraction Finn feels is not just for Willa, but also Scout, who seems to be an unusual but happy little boy. Once Finn learns that Scout is a cancer survivor, the pieces begin to fall into place and he understands his father's final act of generosity.
But it is at this point that Willa discovers Finn's full identity, feeling betrayed by a man she felt strongly about once again. What had promised to be an exceptionally wonderful Christmas turns into another unhappy day for Willa. But just maybe there is more magic at work than Kris Krinkle's dog sled deliveries to sick children.
This heartfelt tale has the true meaning of Christmas shown throughout, that of love, generosity, and care and concern for others. It is a wonderful Christmas story and I recommend it for anyone wanting to experience the spirit of Christmas.
Adorable Christmas story, filled with lovely Christmassy moments, in the winter wonderland, that Marietta, Montana is.
There are so many things to love about this story, the scenery, the characters, the winter activities, all beaming up with the old fashioned Christmas spirit.
Add to that the most adorable little boy, a cancer survivor, so sensitive spirit, but a true athlete in the body, now that he beat cancer. I love Scout.
Willa and Finn form a sort of a holiday romance, they spent time together, get to know each other, and soon both of them are falling for each other, but either of them are completely honest with each other. Because there's no way Willa could know, that they didn't meet by chance.
This story made me smile several times, there's something very tender about it. The connections Willa and Finn make in the story, not with each other, but others in Marietta, is intriguing.
And even though the conflict between Finn and Willa is heartbreaking, as all the secrets are revealed, they don't dwell on it, but soon accept their responsibility in the matter, and find forgiveness. A lovely, touching story, that will give you back some of the magic of childhood Christmases
~ Four Spoons
Return to Bramble House B&B in Marietta, Montana, decked out and ready for Christmas. Eliza embraces the season and welcomes her guests with beautiful decorations and wonderful meals and treats. Bramble House is just what the doctor ordered for Willa and her son, Scout, after everything they have been through. Finn Conrad heads to Bramble House after his mother and sisters convince him he needs to find out why his father left a young nurse such a large amount in his will. Willa and Scout delight in the wonder of Bramble House and Marietta, while getting closer to Finn. Finn realizes that Willa is far from a gold-digger as he becomes more involved with her and Scout, Both have secrets, and some could destroy the new relationship. Add a twist, a kindly old man, and lots of old friends, and you have a wonderful, feel-good Christmas story.
Carmichael excels at drawing the reader into the story with her well-written characters and emotion-tugging story line. If you are looking for a Christmas read that makes you feel the season, this is it. I wish I could make my reservation for Bramble House and immerse myself in a Marietta Christmas!
A brave mother and son head north to spend Christmas
"A Bramble House Christmas" by C.J. Carmichael. This is the first book of the series I have read and had no trouble following. We meet Willa and her son Scout traveling in a bad snowstorm and along the way, we are also introduced to Finn. I liked Willa. She's a single mom that is overly protective of her son - rightly so, we come to find out. Her life hasn't been easy as of late and when she meets Finn, she falls hard. Finn is a good guy, despite the circumstances that bring them together. He's funny and kind and great with Scout. Overall, this is an enjoyable read that is smooth and flows nicely. It's a feel good story and although there is a bit of tension at some spots, it's not overwhelming and Ms. Carmichael, keeping with the feel good aura, smooths it over quickly enough. There isn't any action or adventure - it's a simple love story. Willa, Finn and Scout are enjoyable and work really well together. The other characters in the story are fun too - even Aunt Mabel! For a story that isn't overrun with angst and that will make you sit and smile, I would say check this one out.
(received copy from NetGalley for honest review)
This saccharine story takes place at the Bramble House B&B, a staple of the Montana Born/Marietta stories. Some recurring characters make appearances, especially Eliza and Marshall who have their own book and that allows the reader to see how they are doing after their own book closes.
The basic story is a mystery: why did Willa receive so much from Finn's father? But every time an avenue opens up to ask questions/get an answer more questions are created not all in the same vein. The mysteries surrounding the money, Scout, Finn, and a lovely ring keep this book from becoming unbearably sweet and provided an impetus to continue reading.
As vehicles for the mystery, Willa and Finn work. As characters, they felt a bit clichéd and off. I struggled to accept the growing attachment they had to each other. The secondary characters all seemed more interesting and carried more of the story than I would have liked. But this is similar to most of the Montana Born Christmas offerings this year - just missing the mark a bit character and story-wise.
I liked it for the mystery and opening up of a plotline that can create new stories but not for the story or characters alone.
Another great instalment from the charming town of marietta i really enjoyed this story and i loved the characters and the way the main characters fell in love
This is a very sweet love story. It is really about 3 families. Willa and her son Scout. Scout has recovered from Cancer and Willa is a home health hospice type nurse. Finn Conrad who is a illusstrator for Children's books, and wants to find out why his father left so much money to his nurse, aka Willa. The Bramble family. They own the Bramble House B & B.
There are a lot of mysteries in this book even though it is not a mystery book. The elder Mr Conrad had given Willa a ring, which originally he had given his wife years before But when his wife and him had divorced he has secretly taken the ring with him. When Fin saw the ring he knew it was the one given to his mother, but when the Elder Bramble Aunt seen the ring she was positive it was her Great Grandmothers.
Fin and his sisters and mother want to know how Willa had talked his Father out of a large sum of money left o her in his will. They believe she is a conniving horrible user. After Fin meets her he finds out she is anything but.
That is all I will say about the story you have to read it to find the answers. C J Carmichael has done a wonderful job with this story. She drags you into the story and you just have to continue turning the pages. This is a story anyone could read it is not erotic or elicit in any way. You Learn about the small town of Marietta Montana and the people of Marietta as well as the main characters. The Characters are well written. This was a joy to read especially with Christmas bearing down on us.
Christmas? Check.
Small town? Check. (Marietta, Montana)
Mystery? Check.
Money left to a nurse? Suspicious relatives? Reluctant undercover hero? Christmas magic? Yup, yup, yup and yup. The motives for all those in these sweet Christmas romance unfold as the romance between Willa and Finn. Layer by layer. No extreme drama but plenty of misunderstandings balanced with plenty of gaining understanding. Well developed and relatable characters and a steady plot.
Scout becomes the central character where all this revolves around...paralleling the unfolding story around him...now cancer-free, he is finding his strengths and personality, stretching his wings and finding his feet.
