Although I already know how to knit, I couldn't resist this adorable book. I find it difficult to learn crafts from books, but the instructional illustrations in this one are very clear. I even learned a new kind of cast-on. The projects are on-trend, the photographs cute and appealing (no ugly multi-colored yarn showcase!). This book is clearly meant to appeal to the 10-14 age set, but I have to say I've earmarked a couple of the projects for my own personal use.
* Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for granting me access to this title
Looking forward to getting stuck in very clear simple instructions and pictures that as a beginner with nobody I know who can knit to show is absolutely fantastic. Wish me luck
Ideal to teach kids how to knit. Easy instructions and bright colorful photographs and diagrams
Very upbeat and easy to follow instructions. The directions for your knitting basics in one easy to follow and upbeat book. The pictures of actual projects are close enough to give you a detailed view of what the finished project should look like up close. A great reference guide for beginning knitters of all ages.
Very nice self explanatory first timer's book on knitting. I knit myself so I am able to discern the instructions. They are good. I do think the illustrations need to be bigger and better and the coding used in knitting to explain stitches needs to be explained in more depth. But overall, very nice.
I knit, in fact I learned to knit about 45 years ago while I was in grade school. But I stopped knitting for about 30 years and only picked it up again when it seemed like everyone around me was knitting socks. I really love all the new tools, patterns, and techniques and the yarn choices are incredible.
Anyway, why is someone who knows how to knit reading a beginning knitting book? I am always being asked to teach people to knit and, while it is easy to teach the basics in an hour or so, once they go home they need a book to help them.
My First Knitting Book could definitely be that book. It's not too big to carry around and it has everything the new knitter needs to know. The pictures are clear, as are the accompanying instructions. Not only that, but Hildegarde Deuzo, the author, has included some easy projects.
My favorite project is the egg hats and scarves. While I freely admit I'm not planning making hats for eggs, those hats would be adorable on my great nieces Barbie dolls.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Very basic instructions with cute projects for a beginner. The illustrations are clear with great photos to accompany the projects. I liked the "hint" balloons that were scattered in the book.
Adorable book that is perfect for introducing first-timers (of all ages, but the book is written towards children) to the world of knitting. Comprehensive instructions are very clearly written, and illustrations are both helpful and colorful.
All of the basic stitches and techniques are described, and there are some lovelypatterns at the end of the book. The patterns are for beginners, so they are not extremely intricate, but they are cute, and I believe they would be of interest to the age group targeted.
Perfect for young first-time knitters, the book is actually written for children, and would make a nice gift to any crafty youngster.
An extremely well-written book with easy to follow instructions for the novice knitter. The projects are cute and the patterns use the newly learned stitches to teach you to how knit. I loved the layout and how colorful it was!
As a knitter and teacher, i have reviewed many beginner books. This book has the most appealing projects I have ever seen in a learn-to-knit book for kids. In fact, I would not hesitate to use this book with older beginners as well.
This is a great introduction book...with a wide-range of several beginner projects. The author has organized simple knitting terms with pictures to make learning simple. My favorite was the Pouch; great stash buster. I added a few embellishments (buttons, ribbons, and colorful snaps) to create gift card holders, cute reusable gifts. My second favorite is the basic Mug Sleeve pattern...prefect gift for the coffee lover on your list. I was not a fan of the jewelry pieces (the bracelet nor necklace).

This book taught me to knit, not great yet but getting there. It was easy to understand and I enjoyed my screw ups as much as my susccess
Great book, with lots of great ideas to knit. The instructions were easy to understand, very impressed with this book. As a beginner in knitting its perfect for me.
This is a really good book to start kids (and adults) on knitting. There is so much information. It's well-organized and easy to understand. The projects are simple and ones I can see the kids actually making.
My First Knitting Book has a lot going for it. It is easy to read, has 15 easy projects and has fairly good graphics.
The graphics could be better. The projects are geared to older children’s skill level, but might not appeal to them. It is not the best book for beginners, children or otherwise. There is a nice variety to the projects and most have some flair within the design.
The section on the various stitches (moss and seed) was the strength of the book. There wasn’t much that dealt with troubleshooting. Knowing how to fix your mistakes (and everyone will have them) is an excellent way to help the whole knitting process come together.
Referring to the book along with one-on-one instructions would be the best use of it.
I received a free copy of the book from NetGalley in exchanged for my honest review. Thank you.
This book has great illustrations, great instructions and is great for beginners.
I love that it teaches you an easy cast on stitch.
I would recommend this for beginners of any age.
This book does not stand out too much from other beginning knitting books, but I believe it is a superior book.
I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
Rose is 11 and loves to try new things! She was very excited to try out this new title, My First Knitting Book. I would highly encourage obtaining a hard copy of this book rather than the e-book version. Sometimes the formatting was a little off and in the case of a crafting type book I have found a hard-copy to be much preferred.
My daughter enjoyed searching through the projects, but unfortunately I am not a knitter. She struggled to really be able to complete anything because I am not skilled in this area. I think this book would be ideal for someone who is learning to knit alongside an experienced knitter.
The pictures are beautiful and colorful, engaging the reader quickly, especially young readers! There are lots of step-by-step instructions which I think are probably very good, but because I do not have the experience to help they were not all clear to my daughter.
If you are looking for a good first-knitting book and you have someone to walk alongside you during the process I think this is still an excellent choice.
