Honest and in-depth advice for reaching your full potential. This advice is presented in easy to follow language that can be broken up and applied in pieces at a time.
I feel like I needed this book like yesterday! Or maybr last year. Much of what the author has to share resonates with me. I am feeling hopelessly tired and stressed yet finding it tough to slow down in case I just stop. I'll be looking at increasing my supplements to try to feel better.
This is a must read for all women whether pre-menopause or perimenopause!
The book outlines the reasons for the epidemic of exhaustion and offers a multifaceted approach to counteract these issues. I found it easy to read, understand and appreciate but it is NOT information you will get from your doctor or Gynecologist.
I am in the perimenopause stage (exhausted, mentally and physically) and wish I had read something like this years ago. As another reviewer states this book would be good for someone who needs concrete steps to deal with the physical and mental effects of burnout, and wants a book that is basically brass-tacks.
I received a copy from NetGalley and River Grove Books in exchange for an honest review. but my opinion is my own
Brilliant Burnout self-help book for a specific niche of women: smart overachievers. In a way, it was a compliment to identify with the targeted group, because although they suffer from stress, they do so because of their talent and success.
I personally found this book helpful and relatable. I recognized the author, Dr. Jackson's, expertise and experience, and especially appreciated her moments of self-reflection and personal narratives.
The introduction lays it out best: "burnout is common for highly energetic, successful women." Knowing that this is an inevitable phenomenon for certain women will remove the guilt and confuse and lay groundwork for effective change. Further, Dr. Jackson helps readers recognize the "pressure on self," which is important in order to regulate. Lastly, the book points out a societal factor that should be further addressed and evaluated: "women are expected to take on more than they can handle."
I benefited from some of the intriguing mechanisms explained, such as adrenal fatigue, effects of low dopamine, and candida overgrowth, but the second half of the book with positive solutions made me smile.
I liked the building your tribe section best, and the encouragement to exercise is especially useful.
Dr. Jackson forms the tips and advice in this book specifically for busy women, so it fits their lifestyle and is doable. Many books give general tips for people in society being stressed, but this is for a specific group of women with specific reasons laid out. Therefore this is a useful tool and I recommend it.
This was a brilliant book. The author seems to know what she is talking about. The content is well researched and well presented by the author who is clearly passionate about the subject. I especially liked the bulleted points in each chapter where the information is condensed in a really actionable manner. My favorite section was the conclusion which was actually a chapter on happiness. Such good points!
I received a free copy of the book from Netgalley. This doesn't affect my opinion in any way.
This is a wonderful book for any woman who experiences burnout. It gives you quizzes and explains why we experience it. It also gives us ways to get through it and overcome it
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
Wonderful and much needed read. It was informative and I have recommended this title to many of my friends. So often not only external situations cause burn-out, but our internal situations exacerbate the problem. I've begun using some of the things suggested and can testify they work!
In this book, a long-practicing nurse practitioner, who has an interest in optimizing health as women age, takes a look at female burnout. In the first part of the book, she details the history of her own burnout as well as her professional interests in helping women. The first chapter is about classic burnout, and it starts with a list of questions to see where you fall on the burnout scale. At the end of this first chapter, she gives a few simple ideas that you can implement right away, and she suggests that you start with the rest of the book by picking the topic that seems most relevant to you and your symptoms of burnout. After that, she suggests going through a chapter a week, allowing for those with busy schedules to slowly taking what she has to offer. Further chapters explore hormonal components of burnout and keys to successfully overcome burnout.
In general, I thought this book was full of good information about burnout and what to do about it. Given the way that she suggests the reader approach the book, the structure of the book seemed counterintuitive. She suggests we choose a chapter about what is most bothersome about the burnout we currently face, yet the chapters are not arranged that way, and you have to poke around to figure out what chapter would best suit your needs. She does have appendices of supplement suggestions, and she does own a supplement company. One of the things that she espouses throughout the text is a low-carb, low-glycemic, high-protein diet, which from my own studies I do not necessarily believe is the best diet and certainly not the best for everyone.
If you suffer from burnout, you might find the discussion and suggestions in this book helpful. Like all recommendations for diet and supplements, you should do further research and perhaps discuss it with your healthcare provider.
