Drawing: Animals in Colored Pencil is a great book for artists or art classes. It is easy to read and has great instructions. It is a must for art lovers.

Yes, you guessed it, I requested <i>Drawing Animals in Colored Pencil </i>by Debra Kauffman Yaun largely due to the fact that it had a fox on the cover. What can I say? I have an obsession and I couldn't help myself. And in this case, I found myself quite pleased with the book I ended up reading. Often I generally feel rather "meh" about drawing related books largely because I've never felt particularly helped or fond of the start drawing with circles attitude since it always annoyed the heck out of me to have to erase them later. And yes, I do understand the ridiculousness of this. But, even so, I've managed to get fairly decent over the years at black and white drawings. The thing that really drew me in about this book was the fact that it discussed using color, something I've never really quite managed to grasp an ability for.

One thing I appreciated about this book was how it began by introducing you not only to different kinds of pencils you could use but also to different tools used for smudging and shadows as well as different kinds of erasers. The piece I loved the most from this book, however, was the inclusion of different strokes you can use to incorporate color into your drawings. That, ultimately, was the big piece that drew me in the first place and Yaun did not disappoint there in the slightest. Yaun even broke it down later on in the chapters as she explained how to draw several different animals. Of course, I most looked forward to the fox drawing.

Overall, this is a really quick read and one that only offers a tutorial on how to draw a select few animals. But I do think it is well worth it, especially to those who struggle to create works of art with color in the first place. I, personally, really appreciated the opportunity to read it and I can't wait to see how much it improves my drawing skills.

Drawing: Animals in Colored Pencil by Debra Kauffman Yaun. Now, It may be a book with 40 pages but it's full of so much information on how to draw animals with coloured pencils and how to make them look real, with great illustrations throughout.
This book is Great for a beginner and who is new to drawing it has: "How to Draw & Paint series offers an easy-to-follow guide that introduces artists to basic tools and materials and includes simple step-by-step lessons for a variety of projects suitable for the aspiring artist."

It includes drawing projects are:
a rooster, a Shetland sheepdog, a grey squirrel, a horse, a lory bird, a leopard, a Maine coon cat, an alpaca, a box turtle, and a red fox.

I really like these art instructional books of Walter Foster, simple, useful and beautiful. This one presents, - after a short introduction (tools, color palette and basic strokes), - some animals: felines, horse, parrot, turtle, squirrel etc. and of course the fox in the cover. Starting from simplified underlaying forms, building up through easy steps, voilà!, you can draw seemingly complicated subjects. Surely you don't learn to draw from a little book like this, you'll need years of learning and practice, but as a teaser it works.

by Debra Kauffman Yaun is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I love art books if they are a good step-by-step guide with excellent instructions and plenty of illustrations which this one does! There are 10 projects and the book also shows techniques needed for colored pencil art. This is perfect for the beginner to learn realistic animal colored pencil art! Great book!

This book has some beautiful projects in and the realism is excellent. Although they are in stages I am not sure there is enough detailed instruction for a complete beginner (especially the layering of the coloured pencil) but the book would be ideal for someone with a bit of experience. There is plenty of other information about materials and would be great as an introduction book to this subject.

I was interested in this book because I was never really good at using coloured pencils. I always messed up, I had no idea how to do dimensions... or just how to draw pretty.

During reading this I doodled a bit and it looked way better! Yay!

Unfortunately, I can already say that coloured pencils are too much hassle for me. So, I don't think I'll be going back to this. However, it is good to know how to do it.

I really enjoyed reading the book and loved looking at the beautifully coloured images.
The author explains all about different colouring mediums, which papers to use and talking you though step by step how to draw the animals and then colour them. Projects are broken down into simple steps with a great deal of handy tips thoughout. The author even explains how to colour in backgrounds for your creations.
I would recommend this book as its super easy to follow and full of great hints and tips.

"Drawing: Animals in Colored Pencil" by Debra Kauffman Yaun was a detailed drawing book using colored pencils for drawing some of your favorite animals. Yaun teaches the readers step-by-step ways of drawing proper form, layering and blending so that features like fur, spots, shells all are properly represented, and even discusses stroke types to get the correct look. Each animal she illustrates has five or more iterations of the drawing as it progresses.

Some examples that she portrays include: a rooster, a shetland sheepdog, a squirrel, a horse, an alpaca, a leopard and several other animals. These varied array of animals hopefully would help the artist to attempt other animals with similar features or body forms as you become more comfortable drawing animals.

This book is a great addition to any artist's library as they learn to draw realistic representations of animals in the world around them.

Like the other Walter Foster book you do get tools and techniques. It is not completely step by step but transitions to where the next points should be into making the final illustration. You do get common animals to draw.

Dry good illustrative book. Shows how to draw and then colour the animals. Good book for a beginner although would have liked a bit more variety of animals.
