Description
When you're a sixth-grade dynamo like Nate Wright, life comes at you fast. Whether it's a soccer ball to the head or another teacher tirade, surprises lurk around every corner. In this Big Nate collection, Nate's friends issue the ultimate insult: they point out all the ways he resembles his arch-nemesis, Gina. Nate also scores a new job as an intern at Klassic Komix, and his master plan to carpet-bomb the school with Valentine's Day cards goes seriously sideways. And when Nate gets dragged into a cringe-worthy party for the dreaded Mrs. Godfrey, what could possibly go wrong?
With laughs, adventures, and jokes galore, In Your Face! will make your head spin.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
Big Nate has long been a popular book in my classrooms. I am excited to add this newest one to the classroom library. The pictures are colourful and help tell the story. I like that the text is big and the content is fairly easy for younger readers to decode and understand.
The whole gang is here, and they're all in good form. We get a nice helping of Gina, loads of DeeDee, a worthwhile lesson about Valentine's Day, a short-term job in a comic book store, and lots of general Nateness. This didn't have the strong through-story that you sometimes get in the best Nate books, but it was a fun and engaging collection.
Big Nate is such a fun graphic novel series that so well captures the humor level of its intended audience. This one had all the jokes and characters that I've come to expect. I especially like how large the print is in each text bubble so it doesn't seem as overwhelming to readers with a little less confidence in their skills.
Review to come February 2021 on blog/Goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
A brand-new Big Nate, this time not the picture books, but I picked up one of the comic collections again from Netgalley. I just cannot resist. They are just so funny, and brilliant to cheer up your day. I am writing this in November just a few hours before I have to go to the doctor because my knee isn't healing (I fell of my e-bike just a week ago). So yeah, I could use anything that makes me laugh. And Big Nate did it!
In this one we have tons of sports as he plays more and more soccer. But next to fun sports and him rethinking his decisions on if he should continue going pro or not, there is also detentions, school, Valentine's Day (and can I just say that while Nate's ulterior motive wasn't that good, I still loved that he took time to give a card to all the girls in his school?), we see him try to raise money for the scouts by selling cookies (man, why can't we have that here), hold a surprise party for his teacher (he was kinda roped into it), and there is tons more. Nate definitely doesn't have a boring life, no sirree. Every day brings something for him, be it good or bad (though most of the bad things happen because of his attitude towards things). A bit like karma I guess.
Next to Nate we see his friends (Schroeder makes a toddler cry), Chad woos the ladies and reacts to all things food, DeeDee is dramatic and funny as ever, and Teddy has problems with breaking up with his girlfriend (the ending of this one had me in stitches).
I had tons of fun reading this one and I shared plenty with my hubby as I read.
I would definitely recommend this one to all, Big Nate keeps being funny despite him being so cocky about things. I cannot wait for the next collection/book!
This is going to have to be a two copy order. The kids love Big Nate. After the last book, I was worried that he was growing up too fast and my kids would lose interest. But he seems to be in a nice holding pattern now and the kids will be clammering for this book as well as all the others in the series.
As always, Peirce delivers a series of strips wherein we get to see Nate interacting with his friends during sports and at school. We see his delusions of grandeur when it comes to all of the above. Of course, he spars with Gina and Mrs. Godfrey (even on the first day of school.) There are a series of strips related to his playing on the soccer team including wanting to get some music to play pre-game and how that quickly fizzles and also believing that he should be scouted (even in middle school) and figuring out that that will mean some extra training with someone he'd rather not spend time with.
It is also Nate's turn to take care of Sherman, the class hamster, and, being Nate, doesn't do it in quite the way one might expect.
I am really enjoying the addition of Dee Dee. I can't remember when she was introduced but she's been appearing in more and more of the series. She is a great character and it's nice to see Nate actually relating to a female in a positive manner (not just as a despised teacher or sibling or, on the other hand, as a love interest.)
Four and a half stars

Opinions are my own
I can see how kids love the Big Nate series books. The comic book style makes it fun and easy to read, especially for those who may not enjoy reading just yet. This book would be great for children in 2nd and third grade as the jokes would be relatable for that age group.
Thank you Net Galley and publisher for a free copy for my honest review.
This book was received as an ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was laughing hysterically throughout this entire book. Lincoln Peirce has created a genius of humor in Nate and his friends along with his teacher and coach and of course Gina. Some of the things he says were so spot on and heard throughout the sixth grade that I felt I was back in middle school reliving it all. I can really see each time I read a Big Nate novel why this series is so popular. Everytime I finish a book, my voice is horse, my stomach hurts from laughing so hard and my face is beat red. I can't imagine how our young readers feel after they finished his books and I know this one will be the best.
We will consider adding this title to our JGraphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
My fourth graders have often talked about Big Nate books, but had never read one until Big Nate: In Your Face! I enjoyed it and there were many parts that literally had me laughing out loud, I wonder if some of the funny parts in the book are things that kids would think are funny for the same reasons. There are a few parts that made me go hmmm at the adult humor. I would be interested in reading other Big Nate books and seeing if they are all the same way. That might make me reconsider the age groups I would allow to read it.
5/5
***Special thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
Another great addition to the BIg Nate Comics Collections by Lincoln Peirce. I absolutely love this series and it always brings me back to my childhood.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the Big Nate Comics and really just Comics in general.
Big Nate is a series both my middle grade children love. It appeals to girls and boys alike. I have never read any of the Big Nate series and was glad for an opportunity to do so. My kids have read each and every one and were so excited to see what was coming next!
This book had mixed emotions for me. I applaud Lincoln Pierce for bringing joy back to reading for those kids that maybe don’t reach towards books for entertainment. Graphic novels with relatable material are hard to come by. I do feel some of the humor was more adult that pre-teen but wasn’t offensive or vulgar.
I found many of the little clips funny and so real life. I think it’s therapeutic for kids to find humor in day to day life, especially in the school scene where expectations can become stressful.
I do wish there was better flow to the book. I felt like we were jumping all over the place. There wasn’t clear changes to scenes or anything resembling a lifelike timeline.
Overall, I rate this book a 4 out of 5. Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Big Nate: I Your Face! is a kids comic targeting middle school age. It comes with lots of humor and true-to-life growing pains. Reminiscent of Calvin and Hobbes, it is a fresh voice of hilarity that this age group will enjoy. Highly recommended.
The latest Big Nate compilation brings back the cast of characters we all love. From Francis the trivia nerd, to Gina in the role of Nate’s brainiac nemesis, Chads’ adorableness and the dreaded Mrs. Godfrey, fans of this series and the daily comic will want to add this to their collection. This would be a great stocking stuffer or Secret Santa gift for kids.
Lincoln Pierce is a treasure and I look forward to reading about Nates’ adventures for years to come.
Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for the free ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion.
My son says, "It was really good. It is way funnier than all the other Big Nate books." He said one of his favorite parts was the surprise party for Mrs. Godfrey. He also says he wants to keep reading this series and hopes more come out.
So that's the 8 year old perspective. I also enjoyed it as an adult. I think there are a lot of jokes that require a lot of background knowledge that I'm not always sure kids have. I know my 8 year old doesn't, but he's also not quite the prime age demographic for this book.
Big Nate: In You Face is another great addition to the Big Nate series by author Lincoln Pierce. Our 10-year-old son has been reading these for several years now, and they are always one of his first choices from his bookshelf.
He enjoys the relatable characters and scenarios, quirky humor, and engaging plotlines. Big Nate: In Your Face has all the diverse chracters he has grown to love, and the predictable yet important middle grade issues he can relate to and also learn from.
The humor works perfectly for it's intended audience and the storyline keeps it's reader engaging until the very last page. As a parent who is hoping to instill a lifelong long of reading, book series like Big Nate are a reminder that the most important thing you can do for young readers is engage them and show them there really is a genre of books for everyone.
Thank you to Andrews McNeel Publishing for my gifted copy in exchange for a honest review.
Note: If you're reading Big Nate Comics for the first time, I recommend reading Big Nate book 1 first so you can familiarize yourself with the characters. The easy-to-read comic format has a bunch of mini-stories set in the Big Nate world - great for my ADHD mind. My kids (elementary - high school) love this series.
Middle schoolers Nate and friends continue their antics. Favorite scenes include Nate dream walking, Dee Dee's first monopoly game, Chad's sleepover at Nate's, and picture day for Teddy. To avoid spit-choking, keep your sodas away - you WILL laugh!
I received a free copy of this book via Net Galley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
My kids (and now my grandkids too) have been reading Big Nate books forever!! Lincoln Pierce, in my opinion, is one of the best author's of cartoon/graphic novels for kids! In this series of comics, Nate Wright, a sixth grader, gets a job as an intern at the Klassic Komix. Through his job and interaction with both his friends (and foes), lots of crazy adventures await him! The fact that this is book #24 in the Big Nate series speaks volumes to the success of this author!
Thank you to the publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest and unbiased opinion. Great clean children's book!
I laughed out loud several times while reading this. Nate's continuing antagonism with Mrs. Godfrey takes an interesting turn. I was happy to see more time given to Chad and Dee Dee. They added to the humor and took the strings in a few new directions. I would heartily recommend this book.
My 7-year old has read every Big Nate book she can get her hands on, so she was more than thrilled to get to read this one a bit early. She enjoyed this one as well, because she loved that it was all in color and found multiple parts to be really funny. She plans to read this one again very soon!
My son enjoys reading graphic novels and Big Nate is one of the series of books he has recently been into reading. This one is as funny as the others and I found him laughing throughout different parts of the book. I would recommend this book to middle grade readers as the character Nate is a sixth grader.
Can you believe there are over 20 "Big Nate" books? I feel like just yesterday the first one was published. This series always goes "missing" at my library.
Big Nate is back, and "Big Nate: In Your Face" is another great addition to the series. Lincoln Pierce can always make me giggle, even though his books are intended for middle grade readers. Nate's friends compare him to his arch-enemy, Gina! Nate starts an internship at Klassic Komix. If that's not enough, poor Nate gets sucked into a surprise party for his least-favorite-teacher, Mrs. Godfrey.
Definitely enjoyable and looking forward to its release on March 2, 2021.
Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me a copy of the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
My youngest daughter loves all The Big Nate books. I thought I would read this one to see what the appeal was all about. The story was fun and age appropriate for my 9 year old. If you're looking for a way to get your child into reading, Big Nate is a great place to start. The graphics and format are wonderful for kids. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
thanks to netgalley for this cheerful graphic novel, Big Nate is always fun!
In this issue the 6th grader Nate has a lot of things to handle – soccer ball coach, his arch nemesis Gina.
Nate has a new job as well to handle, he gets a chance to intern at Klassic Komix and does a fabulous job!
Nate thinks he is the sweetheart of the school and decides to give a valentine’s day card to all the girls (because he doesn’t want to be biased ). He is also dragged to celebrate Mrs. Godfrey’s birthday and express his liking to her (hahaha)

Big Nate: In Your Face! by Lincoln Peirce follows the adventures of Nate and his sixth grade friends told in comic book style. Honestly, this was the first time I have read one of these books although my son has almost all of the other twenty Big Nate books. I was originally introduced to this series when I was asking our librarian to give me a book, any book to get my eight year old to read. What ensued has been a whole shelf of books from the masterful Lincoln Peirce and most importantly a son who chooses to read on his own now!
I let my 13 year old son read it first. He was laughing out loud and sharing jokes the whole time he was reading. The jokes were pretty funny, but I am not the demographic so I wasn’t falling over in glee quite as much as my son. He did share that he was glad Nate gave a valentine to every girl at school so no one would feel left out. He also loved that Nate gave a paper to another basketball player with his insults written on it because he was not allowed to verbally trash talk him. I probably could have done without that action, but Nate does not disappoint with his clever ways of interacting with the world. I really liked his friendships with DeeDee, Francis, and Teddy. My son did say the book was a little shorter than he was used to, but perhaps that was because he usually has a hard copy to read.
As always the art was phenomenal and the comic book format will appeal to reluctant readers. Big Nate is a little older but still relatable to the middle grade readers. His adventures will keep kids interested and amused.
I was provided a free advance reader copy from Andrews McMeel Publishing in exchange for my honest review on Net Galley. The opinions shared in this review are my own.
You'd think after reading as many of these Big Nate books as I have, the format would grow stale, and I would get bored.
And yet. Lincoln Peirce is quite adept at taking the same formula and finding funny and fresh ways to spin it. Nate always manages to be the dunce, and still make us laugh at each of his endeavors. Such as giving every girl in the school a Valentine, in hopes of gaining a girlfriend. (Goes about as well as you would expect.)
Great book! Another edition of Nate's antics that felt fresh and new, unlike some of the other Big Nate comics I've read recently where they continue to rehash the same few things. The Godfrey storylines feel reused at points but I like that it was ~spiced up~ a little by introducing the class pet. I particularly enjoyed Nate's valentines day antics as he continues his unsuccessful pursuit in the name of love. I also really want to know if that girl ended up reciprocating feelings for Nate!
My Big Nate lover raved about this book. She read cover to cover in one sitting and was audibly laughing. When asked, she said it was awesome! We can't wait for it to be published.
This was my first big Nate story and I thought it was so cute and a good read for younger readers it was also very funny and good story line thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a arc of this book
Thanks to NetGalley for access to this ARC! As always, "Big Nate" is a win with kids of all ages. My son (age 9) is a huge fan of the humor and entertaining graphics. Can't wait to see more of this series!
My 8 year old daughter has reviewed the newest Big Nate book. She says:
“The Big Nate book series is about a boy name Nate who gets in a bunch of trouble.
There are almost 50 Big Nate books and I don’t think that they get any worse throughout the whole series - it’s always interesting.
This was a great book I enjoyed it so much! I hope that the author writes more books soon and when they do I can't wait to read it! Big Nate is so funny! He is always doing something that is either dumb or funny and those thing are usually hilarious.”
Nate made a mistake. He decided to get serious about soccer so he got a coach. Unfortunately, it was Coach John so he really got a workout! Then there was Mrs. Godfrey's surprise birthday party and the Valentine's Day fiasco. But what really got in his face was Spitsy deserting him to ice skate with Kim. Bad dog! Plenty of the usual fun and shenanigans in this volume of Big Nate!
Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this volume.
My daughter loves the Big Nate books and this one was no exception. Fun,, entertaining and beautifully illustrated. A must read for all comic book.
Great idea for a book and really well executed. A thoroughly good read. Highly recommended. .
Another fun installment in the life of Big Nate; 6th grade, soccer dreams and of course, the ongoing battles with Mrs. Godfrey [does she teach the whole school Social Studies???] and the insufferable Gina, all make for a fun and enjoyable read. Middle grade kids will absolutely love this!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Lincoln Peirce, and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A worthy addition to the Big Nate collection. There were definitely laugh out loud moments. I will recommend this to students who are already fans of Big Nate and also those who are looking for a fun read.
I really enjoyed this Big Nate comic and the normal funniness that comes from it. It's a great read for all ages.
Great addition toe the series. My son loves these and we will be adding this to our person collection and the libraries collection.
This is one of my favorite series to share with reluctant readers. Big Nate: In Your Face is another wonderful installment to an already fabulous series!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
My 12 year old son helped with this review, and it was pretty easy to tell that he liked it as he was grinning from ear to ear while reading. Despite the number of books now issued under the series, the humor and enjoyment in reading remains. In fact, the Big Nate books are one of the few that my children will read time and again. Getting kids to read can be such a challenge sometime, so thank you for these books that keep them delighted and engaged!
