Description
In this Bible study, which accompanies a trade book by the same name, Jennifer Dukes Lee helps readers dig deep into Scripture to reveal how land is a picture of our slow growth into claiming the promises of God. The land is more than a backdrop for the Bible. It is a central part of the magnificent narrative, from the very beginning when Creator God used dirt to make life on a farm called Eden. Jennifer weaves these biblical lessons into her own experience of the importance of land, gleaned from her fifth-generation farm. The land--both then and now--teaches us how to un-hurry our hurry-sick hearts.

This is such a timely book/study for me! I would like to thank the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this. I need this message of slowing down and enjoying life. This was an excellent study and Lee is going to make a huge splash in the Women's Christian scene!
I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Growing Slow bible study guide accompanies the book of same title. It is not necessarily a must to have both but would be an asset for the study. The author references the NIV Bible for her scripture verses. Her background is United Methodist Church but any denomination would find this book helpful for personal and small group study. Included is a leaders guide for small group study. The author uses illustrations of the land, her personal farm life, the land upon which the reader resides and grows in the Lord, and the Holy Land and biblical characters to reflect on and learn from. With charts, questions, reflections and fill-in-the-blank places to write; this guide is an interactive way to study God's Word with a theme of slowing down our hurried lives to truly live. Enjoyable and interesting guide, perfect for young and more mature believers.
Growing Slow Bible Study by Jennifer Dukes Lee is a beautiful Bible study that digs into the picture of slow growth. Here, Jennifer Dukes Lee takes the reader through Scriptures to see how land is a picture of us growing slow into claiming the promises of God. This Bible study accompanies Jennifer Dukes Lee's new book, Growing Slow. Though it is not absolutely necessary to have read that book, it would have been good when doing this study, I think. All in all, I thought this was a good Bible study that really can help the reader to grow slow.
Do you sometimes feel you can’t keep up anymore? After reading all the productivity books and setting worthwhile goals, do you ever feel you’re still barely holding on to the back bumper of the train called Life and wish there was another way? If yes, then Growing Slow is for you.
In a world full of shirts, signs, and coffee mugs that encourage us to hustle, Jennifer Dukes Lee challenges you to focus on growing what is meaningful and long lasting. With the temptation of FOMO looming overhead, my worry of missing out was focused on the wrong things.
One quote I’ve loved is “If you saw your progress the way God does, you’d never doubt for a moment that you’re making a difference.”
As I went through this study guide and book, I realized that the hurried mindset opens me up to comparison and discontentment. I want to rush away certain seasons of parenting because they don’t feel worthwhile or appear to bear much fruit. Jennifer’s teaching has challenged me on that, and I’m grateful.
With the truths presented in this study guide and book, I am taking more calming breaths while I stop hurrying and start resting. I am resting in Jesus and enjoying Him and His Word far more than the obligation I felt before to get my quiet time done to be able to start my day.
I enjoy the free teaching videos included, the reflection questions and the fill-in-the-blank verses for digging into the Word, but the prayers at the end of each week are my favorite!
Growing slow by Jennifer Dukes Lee
This devotional unpacks what it means to live life unhurried and with intentionality. The reader is invited to reflect on how we can enjoy a more satisfying and meaningful life and walk with God, though helpful reflection prompts and engaging exercises.
I really enjoyed this devotional and thought that the author really draws on her on life experiences beautifully to illustrate the core message.
The Bible study provides the perfect in-depth companion to Growing Slow. Individuals may use the book alone or as part of a small group. The six sections, intended to take a week to study, follow the same pattern. A key Bible passage, My Land, Your Land, The Holy Land, Un-Hurry Your Heart, and Prayer.
The My Land section introduces readers to the author's story of learning from the land during the different seasons. You Land provides space for readers to reflect on their own struggles and how those struggles have shaped us. In The Holy Land section, readers take a deep dive into our spiritual ancestors. Readers can reflect on the week's lessons and apply them to their everyday life in the Un-Hurry Your Heart section. The author offers a prayer at the end of each lesson.
I especially appreciate the short leader's guide at the end of the book, as well as the videos that accompany the lessons. Even if you've never lead a small group book study, you'll feel equipped and ready to lead out after reading the guide and seeing all of the materials the author has made available.
Loved this Bible study. Loved how she went step by step. She gave me a lot of insight on God. She really went deep into all the verses and the steps. She went for all my heart. Loved it.
The moment I read about this title by Jennifer Dukes Lee, I knew I wanted to read the book. At first, I did not plan on getting the study right away. But I am so glad that I own the whole package. This is a study that I will probably need to complete several times, so that the message truly sinks in to my heart.
I do recommend buying the actual book to use with the study. Yes, the Bible is definitely important as well. But I think that there are enough additional insights provided that having the Growing Slow book would be helpful. That could probably be read as an e-book, but I think there are enough blanks in the study that buying the paperback for this title is preferred. Of course, that is my own opinion.
There is one study chapter for each of the six week sessions. Each section is less than 20 pages long. The chapters are not divided into daily homework assignments. Instead the participant can choose how to break up the information.
I would say this study is accessible to all women including those completing their first study to those who have completed dozens of studies. With fill-in-the-blank answers, the guide is not challenging to fill out. Yet because of how this topic is presented, a person who has completed many studies will not get bored. Verses range in topics from the land to spreading the seeds of evangelism. Some studies can feel intimidating to complete. This is not one of them.
I like the one word themes: cultivate, plant, grow, harvest, celebrate and heal. Additional notes are provided for those who want to lead the study. One of the activities is emphasized for group study - sending your burdens away.
Although I have not filled in all of the blanks yet (as I want to "go slow",) I did read through enough of the information to be able to give a solid review. I am hoping to lead this study. I was provided a preview copy through NetGalley. I wanted to look over it in the hopes of being able to have others complete the study with me. These thoughts on the guide are my own.
Bonus: This six week study includes optional videos. Filmed at the author's Iowa farm, they continue the message of not being in a hurry. Each video is less than 15 minutes long and is the perfect addition to this study. Those who purchase the study have access to the complimentary videos.
Jennifer writes “It’s about growing slow and living in peace with God’s timing.” About being so busy trying to match the pace of the world, that it took a toll on her life.
The doctor described it as “hurry sickness” disease. And as you read her book you will learn how she moved from hurry sickness to growing slow. How her life on the farm taught her to slow down, because in farming there is a time for preparation, planting, growing, harvesting and rest. And most of all, it’s the parallels with a relationship with God. The different seasons in life, and how growing slow gives you time to remember, reflect and return.
The "Growing Slow" bible study is a companion book To Lee's "Growing Slow." I hadn't read the book so I wasn't sure if the bible study would be a good stand-alone study, but I wanted to give it a shot since I am a fan of Lee's work and I follow her on social media. I really enjoyed the bible study and found it to be just as useful and applicable as a stand-alone study. When I first started reading, I was a little concerned that the content would be more "typical" of other products (I've read a lot of religious nonfiction and bible studies). But I was pleased to discover that within the first week, Lee was challenging me with though-provoking perspectives and a new spin on issues that were relevant to me.
I really liked the study and would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing an advanced readers copy for an objective review.
This is a review for the Growing Slow Bible study that is a companion bible study for the Growing Slow book by Jennifer Dukes Lee. I have not read the book, but I have taken a look at the bible study and wanted to share what I liked about it with you.
This is a six-week study, you can use the book by yourself or with a group. Here's what I like about it, it's straightforward enough that anyone can pick it up and find some encouragement but it's also got enough open-ended questions that those who have been in studies for a long time can grow, too. Not having read the book doesn't detract from the study but it does increase the desire to read the book to explore the ideas presented a little more in-depth. I used the Kindle version of the book for review purposes, if you do the same, I'd recommend having a journal available to be able to write down and capture the ideas and scriptures that are in the study.
Overall, I'd recommend this study for anyone who feels like they're always in a hurry and wants to slow down as well as for anyone that feels like life is moving way too slow and needs some encouragement in the midst of growing slowly.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for the purpose of review. I'm never required to say good things but I'm always thankful when I can.
When we listen to the word, grow we never think slow. We want and maybe think need things now and fast. On this six-week Bible study, Jennifer Dukes Lee takes us on a journey of discovering. In this bible study, I could learn God works slow, steadily, and with a purpose. Even when it seems like nothing is happening on the outside. Each week we took to have a theme, the main focus, my land, holy land, and un-hurried your heart section.
One of the things I like about this bible study is that no matter the age or occupation you can participate in this bible study, we don’t have daily activities, so each person doesn’t have the pressure on working a specific time each day. I like that since some days we have more time than others. Also, the videos posted on her website are also useful for the study.
This bible study shows me, good things can grow in the soil of adversity, I need to be grateful in the season I am right and not try to push faster to another one that maybe God is just preparing me. It takes time, but I believe like Jennifer Dukes says: God wants us to have peace and joy, so instead of running or rushing my recommendation is to slow down and see the beautiful things God wants to do now.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free digital copy for review, all opinions are my own.
