Description

“Hey, Mom and Dad, I’m engaged!”

It was one little white lie. What could possibly go wrong?

With my brother’s destination wedding on the horizon and no plus-one at my side, desperate times call for desperate measures. My mother has made it her personal mission in life to get me back together with my ex, who also happens to be the best man and my partner down the aisle. Nobody knows why I abruptly broke off our engagement and fled to Montana two-years ago, and I intend to keep it that way. Wyatt is determined to win me back, and the thought of dealing with him and my mother for a week in Maui would drive any woman to drink. Which is exactly what I did, and five shots of Tequila later, I’ve got the perfect solution to my problem. All I need is a fake fiancé…

I’ve had one goal that’s kept me alive when it would have been easier to give up—recuperate and get back to Afghanistan to complete my mission. What I wasn’t expecting was a petite, sexy-as-hell blonde to crawl through my bedroom window and turn my life upside-down. After a rocky start that involved me pulling a gun on her, we coincidentally find ourselves in need of the same thing—a fiancée.

To be fair, I warned her not to fall in love with me—that I was only going to break her heart. Guess I should have taken my own advice…

“Hey, Mom and Dad, I’m engaged!”

It was one little white lie. What could possibly go wrong?

With my brother’s destination wedding on the horizon and no plus-one at my side, desperate times call for...

I have a few other books from Melynda Price in my TBR but when I had an opportunity from NetGalley to read an early copy of this book, I had to because I really liked the description. And it was really good. I loved both Cullen and especially Summer. Typical for military men, Cullen was alpha with many issues associated with being a survivor. Summer also had some baggage from her prior romantic relationship (I really really wished I could strangle her ex) and I liked how they partnered against everyone else (although I was fairly annoyed that no one knew what really happened between Summer and her ex). I thought that the way they positioned Cullen’s priorities felt realistic and while there was a fair bit of push and pull, their fast- tracked relationship was a good explanation. The other thing that I found a little jarring is that the sections where the point of view changed was not clearly delineated. That was a bit confusing, as it took a little time before i recognized who was “speaking”. Overall, I would give this book a 4.0 and really, I was absorbed into the story.

Hit It and Quit It on the surface is exactly what I needed for a rainy weekend read. A fake fiancé , a wedding, some drama! I did enjoy the characters relationship development, but I also thought the ending was rushed which let the book down a little.

This book really captured me. I binged it rather quickly and was not left disappointed with the ending. The romance and relationship between Summer and Cullen was absolutely adorable. I loved their snarky personalities and how two damaged souls could find themselves when they discover their person. With Summer and Cullen playing fake fiancé’s, both know that it has an expiration date that looms over their heads wether they have feelings for each other or not. We see both of their inner turmoils.

Summer is our heroine who is recently down on her luck in more ways than one. And Cullen, the damaged hero, who suffers from past trauma in the military. From the funny circumstance of how they met to the forced proximity, I enjoyed their emotional journeys and blossoming romance. It was cute to see Cullen become an alpha male type character when it comes to the heroine and other guys.

I usually read historicals, but decided to try this contemporary romance. I mean... fake fiancé times 2? What could possible go wrong? We know... it will go very wrong and then oh so right. The story of Summer and Cullen begins..... with her breaking into his bedroom. He responds by tackling her and pretty much cuffing her. We just know right then and there, it only forward to true love from here. They both have some dark shadows in their past that they are dealing with, but how refreshing to see how they work through them. Love this story and am ready to check out the rest of the series!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. Both books are fun, fast reads with heavy drama and romance. Price has an excellent writing style with easy to follow synopsis and timelines.

This book follows Summer and Cullen. Their initial meeting is maybe one of the best parts of the book. Summer breaks into Cullen's apartment thinking it is her friends and Cullen, a former special ops soldier, pulls a gun on her. From there on out it is all witty barbs, antagonistic attitudes and overall heat between the two. When Summer finally realizes she has to figure out seeing her ex (who cheated on her and wants to get back together) at her brother's wedding in Hawaii, she decides (after some alcohol of course) that Cullen would be the perfect date. No chance of anything happening between them. Needless to say, shenanigans ensue between the two from the get go that are hilarious and also heartwarming. One of the biggest hurdles is this burning need for Cullen to get better after his injury overseas to get back to the "sandbox" and find the man who took out his team. Once the point comes where he has to make a decision, things start to fall apart.

I won't spoil much more but this was a very fun book to read. The chemistry between the two is amazing and the humor in the book keeps you hooked. Overall I would recommend. Good romance read.

5 Stars for this amazingly romance!

Ms Price hit it out of the ball park with this book. It has it all ... I laughed (a lot), I cried (a little) and I swooned (a lot)! Summer just cracked me up ... even though her life was crumbling, she just picked herself up and went on. Cullen was so broken, I just wanted to hug him ... among other things lol! The banter between Summer and Cullen was so snarky ... I loved it! I laughed so hard I was crying when Summer was breaking into Autumn's apartment ... you'll see what I mean when you read it. And the chemistry between Summer and Cullen ... OFF THE CHARTS! I absolutely adored this book and I sure hope there is another one in the series.

Summer needs a fake fiancé for her brother's wedding so her mother will stop badgering her and to show her cheating ex that she's over him. Cullen needs a significant other to get his ex-wife off his back ... so they decide to help each other out. But while they are in Maui at the wedding ... Cullen and Summer form a bond that will be hard to let go when their arrangement is over.

I received an early copy courtesy of BooksGoSocial through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Summer is having a bad time. A horrible date is interrupted with a phone call that her apartment, and everything she owns, is burning. Her best friend is out of town and not answering her phone. When she goes to let herself into her friend’s apartment, she stands in the pouring rain while the code won’t work. Buzzing the other apartments in the building, she finally get someone to answer, only to have that person tell her to, “F*ck off.” Seeing what she thinks is her bff’s bedroom window ajar, she goes to let herself into the apartment through a little window climbing, only to find herself sprawled on the floor with a marine sitting on her and a gun cocked at her head. Oh, and then there is the fact that she has to soon be in her brother’s wedding, opposite of her ex-fiance who cheated on her. Life is not looking up.

Sometimes people show a different persona, though, and Summer soon finds herself at ease with Cullen, the guy who could have killed her. They come up with a plot to take care of both of their problems.

The book cover, as well as the title, do not do justice to Melynda Price’s Hit It and Quit It. The book has whit and charm and will leave readers smiling.

Hit It and Quit It, is the second book I have read by author Melynda Price. This romance opens with a hilariously funny dinner date, where the main character, Summer, is listening to her companion talk about his job...cleaning up roadkill. A terrible blind date to say the least.

Summer's evening only gets worse with her apartment burning to the ground, getting soaked in the rain, and almost getting shot by her best friend's new neighbor. Wyatt, the new neighbor, is recuperating from a horrific injury and tragedy while serving in Afghanistan. He and Summer share an instant spark, which evolves into a fake engagement. Overtime, they fall into lust and love.

While this story was quite fun, it had some serious elements as well. I enjoyed the author's writing style and her words kept me engrossed from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Price.

Summer, born and raised in New York, left the city and her cheating fiance aka her brother's friend/ business partner Wyatt.
With lots of going on in her life she crashes at her friend. Well, she broke into the apartment through a window and with her luck the apartment isn't the right one.
Cullen is surprised at the intruder. given that he's a marine who just got back from Afghanistan, he has his gun ready and pointed at her head. When she surprises him by blaming him for the attempted breaking in there seems to be a spark of interest from him.
Soon after their feisty first meet Summer surprises Cullen with an invitation to be her plus one to her brother's wedding. The perks? Enjoying time on Maui island. The cons? Pretending they are engaged.
The more time they spend together, the more they pretend to be in love, the more it doesn't feel like pretending anymore.

Summer is a great, sassy (and crazy) romance heroine. With all things happening in her life she just needs to keep her mother and ex-fiance off herself and what better then a simple lie- I am engaged.
Cullen is everything you can expect from an alpha marine and his experience in the military, PTSD and flashbacks seem really realistic and are well put in the story.
I liked the flow of the story, it's easines and fake fiancé trope that was written well. It's an easy read and would work perfect as a light summer read.

*A great thank you to the author Melynda Price, publisher BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for this free ARC.

This was a really fun story and I enjoyed it. Its a new author for me but I will be looking for more books in the future because I really enjoyed it. Its a fake fiancee romance with a hot ex military man and a destination wedding with her ex as the bestman at her brothers wedding. It made me laugh and smile and I loved the main characters.

In this story we meet Autumn on a very bad day when she ends up breaking into her besties apartment and instead meets her neighbor, Calum. Going to her brothers wedding she ends up asking Calum to be her fake fiancee since her ex is the best man. And thats when the fun begins. This book was fun and a light read and I enjoyed it.

I love Melynda Price. And this story was no different. The only thing I would have wished for - was an epilogue or more of the ending and seeing them together.

This romance felt so real and relatable. Everyone comes with baggage and past bad experiences and have to work through them. The characters, although unlikeable at times, felt so real. Like, they were people I would meet in real life. I’m so in love with this story, it’s plot, and the characters.

A very well written and entertaining romance with a touch of comedy, some steamy scenes, fun and drama. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC, as I really enjoyed Summer and Cullen's 'fake romance' to 'real romance' story. I'll be reading more from this author.

I think the title does this book a disservice. A different title the book may have gotten a better chance at being picked out by people to read.
The connotation of this title is not exactly my favorite when in conjunction with a romance. I gave my spouse a brief synopsis and asked his opinion and he was a little bit less offended because he said men tend to talk that way about women in certain situations even though he doesn’t participate in conversations of that type.
Overall the book had a great bantering between the characters and a fun storyline. It had a sexy tension between the characters that made the book more interesting and want you to keep reading. I think the author could could have played with that just a little more, but overall the characters and plot was interesting.

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

This is my first book by Melinda Price and I will definitely be looking for others. The premise of the story is what drew me to the story, fake fiancé turns into real love, yes please! The MCs Summer and Cullen are multifaceted with fun personalities on the surface and inner turmoil that helps to bond them together. As the story progresses and the time to decide whether these two have real feelings drew closer I found myself flipping the pages as fast as I was able. This story will cause you to experience all the feelz, and it couldn’t have had a better ending.

This was such a fun summertime read! I loved how they met and how sexy they got! It kept me intrigued the entire time!
I was a bit annoyed with the ending however, considering all the secrets never came out. I felt like it wasn't actually over... With the family at least!!
Characters and dynamics were well build over all and I did enjoy this book!

I could not put this book down! I loved the romance and the chemistry between the main characters. A little bit of drama but a fun fake engagement story (one of my favorite tropes!)
