Description
Light magick is all well and good, but sometimes you can’t just “love and light” your way through challenging circumstances. The potent shadow goddesses you meet here, however, can guide you through the darkness.
Authored by Ara Campbell of the wildly popular Goddess Circle school and community, each dark goddess entry includes spells, invocations, and practices to utilize the goddess's magick and wisdom for embodying strength, setting boundaries, and transforming your life.
Often, it is in the darkest times that we find our strength and reclaim our power.
- Someone poaching on your lover, your home, or your business? Call on Kali, The Warrioress, to release your fear and stand your ground.
- Is your world falling apart or are you processing deep trauma or grief? Call on Persephone, The Dark Queen, to help guide you through your emotional underworld and find a new beginning.
- Trying to shake your “nice” girl or people-pleaser tendencies? Call on Lilith, The Rebel Renegade Goddess, to reclaim your freedom.
- Feeling stuck in some life situation that won’t move forward? Call upon Morrigan, The Phantom Queen, to shapeshift the circumstances.
When life gets hard and messy, Dark Goddess Magick gives you spells, practices, and dark goddesses you can call on.

This is a great introduction to a diverse variety of goddesses as well as different rituals to get you started. I liked the set up of this book, but wish that some of the goddesses were a bit more fleshed out. For example, some had one paragraph of introductory information while others had three to four. But I think this is definitely a great jumping off point for anyone trying to connect or work with different archetypes.
It is exactly the kind of book I want in all the libraries.
Witches have been for centuries mistreated, punished, disappeared, vanished. We tell girls that they should be nice, and good, and considerate and naive and tamed. But why? There is a great amount of energy waiting to be unleashed in other emotions.
This books embraces these dark energies and uses them for good, but for the real good. Violence is not bad per se, not if you are using it to reject violence thrown upon you. Anger, and force can and should be use as warnings and as protection.
I applaud that this book let us navigate securely the rejected goddesses and their gifts.
Wrote down some spells and incantations. Incredibly useful book. Kudos!
The only thing that was a little bit dissapoiniting was the edition in some pages; when there was too much text it wasn't screen friendly. Maybe in the printed edition it will be OK.
I have never read a book like this before and I was a little nervous reading it but I have always liked the idea of a goddess and I also love to learn about female lead roles, this is also great for a reference document.
this was very intreasting and i enjoyed learning about this and gaining knowledge and i will be reading more from this.
I have always been interested in the mythology of the dark goddesses. These are women who are portrayed as being "evil" for not following societal norms. I do think that some of the rituals in the book would make for good meditations during savasanas at the end of a yoga practice.
I learned something new about the Dark Goodess and I appreciated the pictures and how the book is structured.
Informative, well researched.
A good read for everyone.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Amazing book about magic and helpful in learning! I love the cover art and found it to be a breathtaking part.
This book is amazing. You get the backstory of the dark goddesses. There is a wonderful tribute to Hecate and the other goddesses. It is a great book for a beginner and as a basic introductory for someone who just wants to learn about the goddesses. I added this one to my library.
I have been searching for a book like this one for a few years… I am in love with this book, it is so simple but beautifully written. It isn’t written quite for a beginner, however, a beginner would greatly benefit from this book.
For a few years I have been on this journey searching for answers I couldn’t really put my finger on, and most books are written in the Wicca 101 format so this was such a refreshing book to skip all of the repeat stuff and jump straight into the nitty gritty.
This book empowers you as you read about these Goddesses that are deemed undesirable, as they embody all of the raw but beautiful attitudes of a woman, I wished I had been taught that there are moments that these attitudes are needed. As you read about these Goddesses you may be able to reflect on moments in your life that you felt but repressed these attitudes; as you connect with each of these dark Goddesses you will see that these attitudes are so natural and called for as they are given to us to give us strength in our darkest moments in life; that life isn’t always neat and proper, furthermore, there are times that we need our innate abilities to survive and prosper in the face of oppression. Had I had this knowledge to share with my beautiful niece she may have had the strength to save herself from a tragic death, at the hands of no other than someone that swore he was different than the others that had viciously tortured her in unspeakable ways…
May this book bless others and give them strength to feel and just be in times of darkness and to know that darkness isn’t always evil but just natural…
Many thanks to the Author for share her incredible knowledge and for taking us deeper into the spiritual path and for helping us to connect with the Goddess within ourself and the ones before us!
Holy Cow - I am literally buying this as holiday gifts for all my mythology lovers. Not only does this dive deep into mythology, but it features strong women with amazing stories and history!!!
I sat down to flip through this and ended up devouring this in one sitting. When will I learn that I am not a scan and come back kind of gal.
Lately, Greek mythology retellings have been super popular. I've always just went along with them and meant to go back and do more research. This book was an excellent resource for those that want to learn more about important mythology players and strong women to boot!
Thank you, NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, & Fair Winds Press for this review copy. I will definitely be purchasing a hard copy along with the many I plan on buying to gift! BRAVO - would recommend.
