Description
"The early years with baby and toddler will never be seamless – but they shouldn’t leave you gasping for air either. Less struggle and more joy in your first years as “mom” starts here.
It’s all solid advice…
- “Sleep while the baby is sleeping.”
- “The dishes can wait. They grow up so fast.”
- “This too, shall pass.”
These cliché’s hint at a universal truth: Being a first-time mom is hard. You don’t need to be told ""it's just a season."" You need a clear view of early motherhood and tools to help.
With an unparalleled blend of encouragement and candor, author Lori Arnold holds nothing back in providing just that. This tell-all prepares you, not to take care of baby, but for the new life-stage baby brings.
Beautifully weaving personal experience with expert advice, Lori prepares you to:
- Cope with unexpected emotional mash-ups
- Manage the transition from Mr. & Mrs. to Mommy & Daddy
- Make career decisions with confidence
- Navigate toddler traffic jams
- Internalize what it really means to add “mom” to your resume
- Plus, two entire chapters filled with tangible tips and strategies
- And, a bonus comprehensive division-of-labor checklist
The countless blessings motherhood brings should not be overshadowed by the substantial changes that accompany the shift to life with a little one.
Get ahead of the changes and challenges that are inseparable with welcoming a baby and teaching them through toddlerhood - and never forget - Jesus is walking with you through the soul-building growth and messy awesomeness intertwined with it all."

"“Yes yes YES! I've bumbled through the early years wondering WHY THE HELL didn't anyone warn me about x,y,z?! This chapter is a gift to future readers. The tangible, real life examples. I could relate to nearly everything. [On ‘Moms Can Do Hard Things’]. ❤️” – Stephanie
“We had our sweet girl last month! It has been a whirlwind for sure and I'm so glad I was more prepared from this book!!” - Mandy
“I found myself nodding time and time again at how similar and difficult it was to learn many of the lessons in the book as a new mom, and time and time again as kids grow and change. It helps the reader take heart, knowing they are not alone in the journey.” – Kelli
“As women, we don’t hear enough about the challenges motherhood brings. Nobody really shares about their motherhood journey so candidly and honestly. As a result, when first-timers go through any of these challenges, they end up feeling isolated, guilty, and feel as if they’re doing something wrong because motherhood isn’t this perfect experience they’ve been told about. I especially liked how the ups and downs where addressed in such a positive, solution-driven mentality. It made the whole motherhood topic a lot more approachable and less intimidating. One thing that stuck with me is to address expectations across the board with your partner, from small chores all the way to the harder conversations like disciplining a child.” – Eva
“This was sooo well articulated and sooo useful.” [On the transition from Mr. and Mrs. to Mommy and Daddy]. – Monica
“This will be a really helpful—invaluable even—guide for any new mother that makes the good decision to read it.” – Melanie

This is a great book for moms. While I didn’t finish it (no fault of the author) I still wanted to share that it was extremely eye opening and a relief to read. When you become a mom there are so many things that you don’t know. This book is a must read for new moms and moms that just need a reminder that they are doing a great job.
This is a short and sweet read, full of practical advice and encouragement for moms. I already have a toddler, but the book has a lot of good reminders and strategies for parents about to welcome a second child as well. At first, I wasn't sure if this book would have anything new to say that I haven't already heard or read, but I was really impressed by how specific it was. While the book doesn't offer prescriptive advice on things like sleep training or potty training, it does a great job of preparing parents for difficulties they might encounter in childrearing, and things to think through (and talk through) ahead of time.
Though the book has some religious comments, pretty much all of the information is applicable even to non-Christian parents. I highly recommend it.
I read a free digital review copy through NetGalley; thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
