Description
2024 Better Home and Garden Best Cookbook
Published in 2021.
It wouldn’t be summer in Mexico without aguas frescas and paletas—fresh-made Mexican drinks and popsicles in a variety of fruity and flowery flavors. Now you can bring the refreshing, authentic tastes of Mexico to your own backyard!
This cookbook is a celebration of two of the most refreshing Mexican treats that are delicious all year long, but best enjoyed on a warm summer day. Sanchez highlights the traditional flavors of horchata and jamaica, while also providing unique combinations that maintain authenticity, such as avocado coconut.
The book features 40 recipes, which is less than some other options. However, each recipe is simple, only requiring a handful of ingredients and a fraction of the amount of sugar the store-bought versions of these treats would have. If you love sweet over savory, this is the one for you."- Better Homes and Gardens
Ericka Sanchez of the popular culinary website Nibbles & Feasts delivers 40 easy recipes for anyone who loves traditional Mexican fare. Ranging from familiar flavors like horchata and lime to more unique combinations like Hibiscus & Spiced Orange, Mint Blackberry, and Avocado Coconut, the recipes in Aguas Frescas & Paletas uses less sugar than traditional Mexican treats and simple ingredients that can all be found at your local supermarket. All drinks are alcohol-free and perfect to share with your family! !Buen provecho!

Thank you to NetGalley + the publisher for a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
It's been pretty hot around here lately, so I've definitely been on the hunt for tasty recipes to cool down with! I'm not great about staying hydrated, so anything that will make me drink more fluids is always a welcome addition.
I love that these recipes don't require a lot of equipment or ingredients to make -- just a blender, strainer, large pitcher, large spoon with a long handle, and a citrus squeezer (to make life easier)!
Each recipe contains a short intro, serving size, ingredient list, and the directions. Most of them have ~5 ingredients or less. The paleta recipes will be great inspo for me to break out my frozen pop molds again. :]
I think the hardest thing will be deciding which recipe to start with -- I had no idea horchata was so easy to make, but I'm looking forward to making that (plus the oatchata, strawberry orange beet cooler, cantaloupe cooler, avocado coconut pops, and the corn pops...)!
This book is insanely beautiful and will be sure to make you thirsty and craving aguas frescas and paletas. The recipes are easy-to-follow and accessible, and the design of the book is bright and colorful and will make a beautiful addition to anyone's shelf! I'm excited to try ALL these recipes but especially those for oat-chata, banana cajeta pops, and pineapple cucumber basil cooler! Will save this as a gift idea for friends!!
Aquas Frescas & Paletas by Ericka Sanchez
Aquas Frescas & Paletas is an easy to use colorful cookbook full of quick refreshing recipes. With summer right around the corner, I found these easy recipes both tasty and perfect for the heat. I particularly enjoyed the TriColor Pops, finding the flavors amazing. The kids enjoyed these homemade treats. The Orange And Yogurt pops give you a creamsicle feel. I definitely recommend diving into the summer with some new, and tasty, ways to beat the heat.
Aguas Frescas & Paletas is a different type of cookbook that encases the Mexican culture and provides us with delicious authentic recipes to enjoy all year round, especially during the summer months. My oldest daughter actually works with a local food truck that sells aguas frescas at markets, so I am familiar with this refreshing beverage.
The imagery is beautiful and I feel like it captures the essence of the recipes, with fresh fruits, floral patterns, vivid colors paying homage to Mexican culture. The recipes are simple, easy to follow and the flavor combinations sound amazing. We don't often buy popsicles because of all the unnecessary sugars, additives and food dyes so I really appreciate the paletas and I know my kids will love them. It makes me feel better about popsicles as well because of the straight forward ingredients and the fact that they're packed full of fruit. Mango & Chamoy Pops will be made for momma! HAH!
While this is a book with less recipes that we may be used to in a cookbook, I wouldn't change anything about it. In fact, I'll be making these throughout the summer, starting tomorrow.

Thank you Netgalley and Familius for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
Summer might be coming to an end here but our love for refreshing drinks and icy treats is eternal! That's exactly why I picked up this book.
This book is divided into two sections: Aguas Frescas and Paletas. The first has 21 recipes, while the second offers 19. The introduction takes you on a nostalgic journey through the author's childhood, and a "Definitions" chapter explains things about the recipes, necessary equipment, sweeteners, and more.
Each recipe boasts a vibrant picture of the finished product, and stunning photos pop out between chapters, bringing the book to life.
Chayote, a veggie I usually use in stir-fries, gets a surprising makeover in this book – a juice recipe I'm definitely trying soon! There are also personal stories and recipe notes accompanying each recipe, making them more than just instructions; they're little pockets of knowledge about each dish.
The descriptions of ingredients, like cajeta and piloncillo cones, etc. are accompanied by beautiful color photos, adding another delightful touch.
This book offers a delicious mix of traditional favorites like Horchata alongside innovative creations that use chayote, aloe vera, and other unexpected ingredients for juices, and even corn, tamarind, cheese, and amaranth for paletas!
I loved reading through this book and enjoyed the mouthwatering pictures. I can't wait to try out some of these recipes myself.
If you love Mexican cuisine or love juices and popsicles, then this book is the one you need!
Thank you Familius and NetGalley for a copy of Aguas Frescas & Paletas!

I was SO excited to see this on NetGalley - I ran to request it! The perfect recipe book for summer. I'm surprised to see how accessible and easy it is to make these Mexican treats even though I live in Canada. I'm most excited to try Papaya and Mango Cooler, Tamarind Pops, & Oatchata!
The book itself is readable, the author's personal stories has it's own background/graphic, and it has gorgeous photos that will make you crave the drinks and paletas!
This book is an absolute delight, from the images to the recipes themselves! A great cookbook or recipe needs to allow me to see the outcome visually. Similar to knowing the destination when I am driving or walking to a place, seeing a picture of the desired outcome of a recipe inspires me and provides me with direction. The Aguas Frescas & Paletas book has one of the most beautiful images of plates, desserts, and beverages, and the production value is superb! The recipes are well explained even to someone not of Mexican descent like me. This book is great and the recipes are so refreshing!
