Description

A riveting tale of heartbreaking secrets, misplaced trust and loyalty, and the toll domestic violence takes. This story of love, family, and survival will break your heart and leave you amazed by the resilience of the human spirit.

No one can escape the mistakes of the past …

Rachael stumbles upon her grandmother Dorothy's journals and unearths disturbing details about her family's web of lies and their unraveling. The confessions resonate most profoundly, as her marriage to a volatile man has become increasingly dangerous.

As Rachael turns worn and faded pages, there is no doubt that matriarch Dorothy dedicated herself to ensuring the safety of her children and her children's children. After being raised in a chaotic home with an abusive father, Dorothy knows no matter how vigilant you can be, there is no barrier to evil when it exercises its power.

Woven through the fabric of Rachael's lineage is a small island in a northern lake—a place that is not what it seems, but for this family, it is everything it needs to be. The idyllic, remote island harbors the secrets surrounding more than one mysterious death and the key to preventing more.

The question is—can the island and the past help Rachael break free before she becomes a tragic victim of domestic violence?

""Oh wow! I cannot say enough good about this book! It’s gritty, realistic but with an otherworldly air. It deals in abuse both mental, verbal and physical. In manipulation, adultery, and so much more.

In reading Racheal’s grandmother’s journals, she was able to see herself and the situation she was in..then do something about it.

It deals with a long line of Racheal’s family and all the mess that she learns about when she reads the journals.

And Jimmy…sweet Jimmy. My heart aches for him.

This book is fantastic! It’s gritty and realistic. I highly recommend it and I’m personally going to suggest it for my book club.👍🏻""

""What a thrill it is to see a new author really hit it out of the ballpark. … I completely immersed myself in the storyline, the characters, and their history, looking forward to learning more with every flip of the page. The generational ties with a twist of the fantastical was brilliant.""

Said the Spider to the Fly is a painful look at a multi-generational family entangled in verbal and physical abuse told through a grandmother's journals. Set on the secluded Possum Island with no electricity or indoor plumbing. The family vacation home of generations is the center of the epic storms in their lives.
Written with all the feelings of rage, thunder, shock, and horror that almost made me lose my breath at times, yet ended with me wanting to know more.
