A Heart’s Home by Colleen Coble is the last book in the A Journey of the Heart series. It is December of 1866 at Fort Phil Kearny in Wyoming Territory. Emmie Croftner is engaged to marry Lt. Isaac Liddle. Emmie is so happy, but she still has not told Isaac her secret. The her first husband was not really her husband (he tricked her). Then Amelia Campbell, who just had a baby, falls ill to pneumonia and passes away. Her husband, Jacob, expects Emmie to honor her promise to Amelia. Emmie has promised she would marry Jacob and take care of their baby if something happened to Amelia. This was before Emmie became engaged. Isaac promises he will take care of everything. The Indians are continually attacking the men as they venture out of the fort for wood. One whole unit is massacred. Someone need to go to Fort Laramie for men and supplies. Two men volunteer to make the trek. One of them is Isaac Liddle. Will he make to the fort and back (with the heavy winter blizzards) with the necessary troops and supplies? If Isaac does not make it back, then Emmie will have to marry Jacob. Will there be a happy ending for all involved?
I enjoyed this portion of the book much better than part five. I give A Heart’s Home 4 out of 5 stars. It was easy to read and I enjoyed the ending. You really do need to read all the previous five sections of the book in order to understand this final part. This novel was previously published ten years ago (so it is not a new book by Colleen Coble). Ms. Coble has a nice writing style that makes the book enjoyable to read.

Whooops! I read a book and forgot to review it! GASP! I'm so sorry, friends and publishers. I'll be on my best behavior from now on.
Colleen Coble has written a sweet little book called A Heart's Home. Emmie and Isaac are slated to get married, but Emmie's best friend dies in childbirth and her husband is holding Emmie to a promise she made under duress. It breaks Emmie's heart to tell Isaac what she promised her friend and that now her friend's husband is holding her to the promise.
Colleen's imagination takes the reader back to the days of the Westward Movement and the settlement of the frontiers of America. She has brought to her readers a situation that was not uncommon--death in childbirth--inserted a promise to a dear friend, and then worked out a solution that surprises but gratifies the reader. There is a sweetness to the book that makes it a perfect afternoon read, and enough adventure to keep the reader engaged throughout the book.
Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a dear friend to hold your hand.
My thanks to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read and review this book.
This is a great ending to the Journey of the Heart series. In this last episode, Fort Phil Kearny is in jeopardy. The Sioux Wars are getting worse and warriors are near the fort. The future of the fort is threatened. The Sioux attack a wood cutting party of soldiers, killing some.
Within the fort, Emmie and Isaac are engaged. She has not yet told him the truth and just when she plans on doing so, disaster occurs to her dear friend. Emmie is devastated and worse yet, she may have to keep a promise she made that would make it impossible to marry Isaac.
There is some great drama in this final episode. The Sioux have heightened their attacks in the vicinity of the fort and every time soldiers go out the women worry. Included in this final episode is frustrated love and a possible tragic ending.
I have enjoyed reading this series. I must admit that reading it in episodes was not as pleasurable as reading a novel all in one sitting. It was worth the wait each time, however.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Litfuse for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
This book is the conclusion to the six part series by Colleen Coble, Emmie and Isaac come to terms with the secrets between them, and three brave couples find their way on the wild Wyoming frontier.
Full of faith, friendship, and history, I loved how the women banded together to support each other through hard times, and how they stood by their men, though the future was uncertain. It's a story about friendship and bravery, packed with action and adventure, drama, and a great conclusion to the series, packing a lot into a rather small book.
Overall, a great conclusion to a great series, that brings Wyoming history to life, and I loved how each of the books has a stunning picture on the cover.

I have never been disappointed by any of Colleen Coble's books and this one is no exception. This is book six in a series (A Journey of the Heart), but I didn't feel I had missed much by not reading the previous five books. This book takes place in Fort Laramie with danger of the Sioux attacking. Emmie wants to marry Issac but had made a promise to her friend (before falling in love with Issac) that if anything happened to her friend that she would marry her husband and take care of her child. As fate happened, the friend dies after childbirth. The husband wants Emmie to keep her promise to his wife and marry him to take care of the child. This book makes one imagine what it must have been like living in a fort, women dying of childbirth and the fear of Indians.
