I spotted this book on NetGalley and decided to give it a whirl and was really glad a did. What a great surprise of a book!
Detective Noah Adams has a strange and unusual gift which makes this book slightly different and really interesting, it's a big spoiler so I am not going to tell you what, but this is not your normal thriller book. When he discovers that a young boy name Cody is being abused by his powerful father who seems untouchable he steps in to help young Cody and his mother. The game is on.
As well as this main plot line, Noah is also following up on other cases and is a really likeable character. He works not so much for money but because he has a big heart for people that need justice and I warmed to him very quickly and that did not let up. There is plenty of action across this novel and thankfully no soppy relationship stuff to clog it up. I was cheering for winning outcomes for Noah and young Cody and his mum all the way.
It's Christian fiction, but very light on the Christian element so if you are not a Christian reader don't even let that put you off for a second. Our main man is simply a man who loves God and looks to God for help in all he does. With lots of twists and a fantastic reveal that really took me by surprise this is enjoyable, highly readable fiction you can get lost in. 4 stars from me!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher Pelican Book Group via NetGalley. All review opinions are my own and totally unbiased.
The Watchman is a moving tale of abuse and GODs intervention Noah is a man who has been Blessed by GOD with an incredible gift to help others, and that he does. This book is full of thrills and action and not all of it fun. It was somewhat hard for me to read at times because this author really did get the storyline of abuse of the wife/mother/son correct in so many ways - the actions - reactions - etc - I would know - Noah isn't just dealing with that problem but also other cases as well - now - with all of that how does it work out? does he find the family in time to save them before the father does something drastic? Will he trust fully in GOD or shall I say rely on HIM?
I'm always looking for suspenseful christian thrillers, not a very common genre as christian books often tend to be too clean and soft for my taste. By this I don't want to give the impression this one weren't written in "clean language", it is. There's no swearing, no sex - but I didn't miss it.
I usually prefer "real" novels, not fantasy. This one oversteps a bit the limits of "real", our hero's gifts aren't listed in the bible as gifts from the Holy Spirit, but his faith is very believable. And the crime of domestic abuse is tragically very real.
How the cases are solved is an interesting mixture of supernatural abilities, smart thinking, help from God and friends and will keep you reading until late at night.
The Watchman is a terrific Christian suspense. This book has a super good plot and great characters.
This book was interesting and a new twist to christian fiction mystery. A grade of A 4.0.
