Description

Daydreamer Melisande Avenelle wishes all the social engagements her mother insists on would just disappear so she can focus on her quilt making. Where some artists see images in dabs of paints, Melisande imagines landscapes made from the fabric of the dresses worn at a tea party. After her refusal of the third man put forth by famed matchmaker Madame Treszka, she’s informed she must choose from three groom candidates arranged by her mother. Thinking Texas can’t be as bad as Newport, Rhode Island, for social engagements, Melisande pens her response and boards a westbound train.
Widower Quinton Aznar has a six-year-old son who wants a mama. Since his late wife’s passing four years ago, Quint divides his days between breaking horses for the Army and parenting his son with no time for courting. His mother manages the household and tends to her youngest grandchild, although she would love to move to Galveston to live with her sister. The telegram announcing the arrival of his mail-order bride—a woman his mother corresponded with—on the next stagecoach is a shock. Quint drives the wagon into town, intending to pay for her return ticket. The beautiful, but disheveled, woman who disembarks the stage is too dazed to trust traveling on her own. What has his mother arranged for his life?

After losing his wife to illness, Quinton never wanted to marry again. However, a pretty face, sweet spirit, and loveable woman might change his mind.

A Quilter for Quint is such a sweet story about moving on after loss and learning to love again. I really enjoyed reading about the characters’ lives and getting immersed in the world for this series. I’d like to venture out and check out other books in this series as well.

Not sure why, as it is never really explained, but Melisande, a rich woman from the east coast gets to pick between three eligible husbands to be and picks the farthest one, who is in Texas. Enduring a two week trip, and then finding out Quinton has no idea she is coming to be his six year old's new mama, naturally things are a bit tense. Enjoyable and quick read, perfect for summer reading. Didn't see the point of the bigot military man, but otherwise enjoyed this book and would recommend it and the author.

4.5 stars

Delightful story and for those who it bothers; a clean romance. Melisande has got fed up with her mother trying to find her a husband and she realises that if she lives close by, her mother will continually interfere. She learns of a marriage maker who is looking for a wife for the rancher Quint. Actually it's his mother that realises he needs a new wife. Widower Quint has a young son and his mother, though devoted would also like to spend time with her other grandchildren.

I'd have liked a bit more interaction between Quint and Melisande but it's still a lovely story. Linda is a new author to me so I shall look out for more of her work.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A QUILTER FOR QUINT by Linda Carroll-Bradd

This is book 2 in the Mail-order Mamas series. It is a stand-alone. A mail-order mama is a woman who arranges for a bride for her son.

Melisande (Meli), a Rhode Island native is scared that her mother will try to rule her life forever if she marries a local man. She takes the plunge and agrees to marry Quinton (Quint) from southern Texas. Her mother is friends with a Texas matchmaker who sets up the marriage.

Quint's young son Gabrio is in cahoots with Quint's mother in getting a new mama. Gabrio needs a mama and Quint has no intention of ever marrying again and setting himself up for the pain that comes from the loss of a most special person. Quint's mother and son do not mention that there is a mail-order bride on her way to their ranch. Quint has been lead to believe that Meli is a friend of his mother's that is coming to stay with them for a while.

Meli is just as shocked as Quint is when she arrives and finds that Quint has no idea of why she is there. Where will their lives lead? Gabrio is over the moon with happiness, telling everyone that Meli is his new mama. Meli creates beautiful quilt panels that tell a story. Highly recommend it.

Warm thanks to #netgalley for the complimentary copy of #aquilterforquint I was under no obligation to post a review.

A Quilter for Quint is a quick summer read. Ms. Carroll-Bradd involves the unusual, but true side of Texas, the heat, the scorpions, the rattle snakes, etc. But, the main story line is sweet in that Melisande heads to the unknown to become a wife of a man who did not know she was coming. Quint tries to make the best of a situation not of his making. Melisande and he determine to move forward politely as Melisande gets to know his son and the rest of his family.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable read with a touch of romance, a touch of Texas, a touch of family, hers and his, a touch of faith and a touch of danger. It did seem like the ‘danger’ toward the end was wrapped up a bit too quickly (No spoiler here) and could have used a bit more dialogue between the secondary characters and the H/h. Yet, it is still a great novella to sideline your summer reading.

I enjoyed this western mail order bride with all of the characters. The two main characters were Melisande Avenelle and Quinton Aznar.

Melisande Avenelle is a young woman that like to quilt than be around all the social engagement that her mother insists her to go to. But after a man decides to not count her. Her mother gives her a decision to pick from three letters that her mother received. The letter are from a woman that is a matchmaker.

Quinton Aznar is a widower with a young boy. His son is six years old and want a mother that would read to him. Since the death of his wife he been dividing his time between work and his son. His mother thinks it is time for him to find a wife. So she has a plan to get him a wife.

This was a short but fun story and also quite sweet.
