Description
Exhaustion and hurry aren’t a badge of honor.
Fear and anxiety rage in our world—a weight we carry, producing profound physical consequences. We hustle hard and strive more each day, our priorities mismatched with our Savior’s—struggling to surrender our lives to his will. We believe our superwoman tendencies are amazing when they are in fact alarming. What will it take to rock the boat enough to awaken our souls? A total nervous breakdown?
A diagnosis of severe panic and anxiety disorder answered that question for Christy Boulware. Her fast-paced, highly driven, mis-prioritized life finally caught up with her. Eventually she went from being superwoman to staring at guns on her bedroom floor. Through her journey to recovery, Christy learned how to overcome fear and anxiety in a world that feeds both emotions. Whether you’re on the verge of a breakdown, in the middle of one, or worried you’re headed toward one—this book will show you how a breakdown can lead to a breakthrough. We have wasted enough time living in fear; let’s start living in freedom!
Through this book, the reader will:
• Lay down superwoman tendencies and discover how to fully surrender to a trustworthy God.
• Stop anxiety before it starts by recognizing its smoke alarms.
• Recognize ungodly thoughts and replace them before they snowball out of control.
• Learn why the presence of fear does not mean your faith is weak.
• Discover where science complements God’s Word to achieve a balanced approach for overcoming anxiety.

Nervous Breakthrough is most definitely a must read! Christy pulls no punches and she is sincere, inspiring and open. She draws the curtain back of the fear, anxiety, depression and panic that is an epidemic in today's culture. One can see she has compassion for those who are suffering from this epidemic and the passion she has in her heart to help people in breaking free from crippling anxiety. The pandemic of anxiety today is experienced by many adults and to include the young. In all of her strength and courage she shares about her struggles with others. She tells her story of devitalizing anxiety and her awe inspiring breakthrough is so astounding to each and everyone who would read her book. If you know someone who is struggling or even yourself this book is a must read. Each chapter is filled with inspiring scripture and resources for the reader to explore and learn about anxiety. I want to say thank you to Christy for your compassion and your contribution in the complexity of this subject. Christy shares vital information on the matter of this subject that will leave the reader with hope in breaking the chains of anxiety.
Just what this world needs, an authentic and revealing look at the heavy weight of panic and anxiety. Christy’s vulnerable and raw testimony will be relatable to many different people that struggle with different levels of struggles. She shares in great detail what freed her as well as being humble and honest that it is something she continuously works on. I am excited to share this amazing testimony with so many to help show them that there is hope!
Christy had me 20 pages into the book when she wrote, “My superwoman cape strangled me.” That’s all I needed to realize this book was for me. This encouraging and motivating read gets right to the heart issues of fear and anxiety.
Christy acknowledges the inner pain and outer manifestations of having fears and anxieties, but she gently offers the reader tools, direction, and encouragement to overcome them. Her suggestions on overcoming anxiety are not full of psychobabble. They are practical and realistic ways readers will use to make sustainable change in their lives. I felt like Christy was at my kitchen table the way she shared her raw, honest, and authentic experiences about her anxiety. Christy’s vulnerability as she shared some honest stories about her life with anxiety and panic attacks came through loud and clear. Some of the stories she told, well, let’s just say she’s braver than I would be about sharing them with the world! I love that she wrote, “The problem is not recognizing your anxieties; it’s hiding them.” Society shames us into thinking we can’t talk about anxiety because it’s embarrassing or makes us look weak.
Christy says this book isn’t another self-help book and she’s right. It’s a story of her anxiety journey and how she grew her faith in Jesus. She refreshingly wove her anxiety stories and solutions into scripture without being preachy. Christy offers tools and guidance on how to overcome anxiety that are reasonable, and readers will be able to follow. This book is great as an individual read but is also a church small group leader’s dream. The study guide at the end provides main points, scripture references and reflection questions for every chapter. Read this book and then buy another copy and give it to a young woman venturing into adulthood. I wish I could have read this book when I was in my 20s because it would have given me a perspective on my fears and anxieties that could have made me a healthier person.
This book is incredible and will change your life regardless if you struggle with anxiety and depression or know someone struggling with it! Christy shares very transparently her story and walk with Jesus and teaches others the importance of loving Jesus while fighting anxiety and depression and how to love others who are fighting with anxiety and depression. I love that she wrote this book to help both angles of peoples struggling and supporting. Read the book! It will transform your life!
What a privilege to have the opportunity to read this new book, Nervous Breakthrough, by Christy Boulware. This is as authentic of an account of her personal struggle with anxiety and her personal breakthrough as you could possibly ask for. But it’s not just about her, in fact, this is the thing I love the most about Christy, nothing she does is really about her but about Christ and his ways, his methods and his triumphs. From beginning to end this book is about how God will get us through our struggles if we allow him to. I believe that this book will inspire, lift up and set women on a path to freedom from anxiety thru christ. She does not sugar coat her struggle or the struggle of others but in fact is very candid, which I think readers will value. I can’t thank Christy enough for authoring this book and I am excited to bless my family and friends with a copy as soon as it is released.

Christy Boulware's book, Nervous Breakthrough, is a much needed resource in today's society, due to the rising levels of fear and anxiety prevalent in the world. We are not alone. This book is a great reminder of this truth, that God is beside us walking the journey called life, and guides us through all fear and anxiety that we encounter. Having a special needs son with high medical needs, I have lived much of my life trapped in "fears" and the "what ifs" that each day may bring, or just the day-to-day life worries that crop up for each of us. Christy really helps to relate to and recognize those triggers that start the spiral into an anxiety/panic attack and depression. She gives us actionable ways to combat the triggers and ultimately, to seek Jesus in our times we struggle.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that has struggled personally and/or knows someone that has struggled with anxiety and/or depression. The application points, as well as a list of 25 "ready" statements to summarize what we learned throughout this book, are a great resource to have in combatting anxiety and fear. Thank you NetGalley and Leafwood publishers for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
